Though the chilly winter is upon us, we can all keep warm in the company of good friends at the ICSS Christmas Party! It will be a wonderful night of food, games, caroling and gifts to welcome the festive season! It wouldn't feel like Christmas without gifts! We will be having a gift exchange, so bring along gifts of ~£5 in value to participate! As a bonus, the first 50 ICSS members to sign up for the event will also receive a free Santa hat from us, hohoho! In the meantime, do put in some cooking practice, because we will also be holding the annual Iron Chef competition to find out who is the best cook in the ICSS. Bring in your best dish to be eligible for great prizes and the chance to be honoured as the top Singaporean chef! Here are the details of the event: Date: 7th Dec 2013, Saturday Time: 1900-2130 More details will be published in next week's issue of Kaya and Toast, so keep a look-out! And meanwhile, stay warm! Hi everyone! As mentioned in last week's Kaya and Toast, we have a day trip coming up in late November! For this Autumn Trip, we will be going to Stratford-Upon-Avon! :D There are still a few slots left so do sign up here if you're interested! Here's what the town has to offer... This beautiful market town, steeped in culture and history, is the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Set in the beautiful rural Warwickshire countryside, on the banks of the river Avon, it is one of the most important tourist destinations in the UK. Join the guided walking tours (£5) and follow in Shakespeare's footsteps from cradle to grave, along the historic spine of ancient Stratford, while learning more about his story (trust me! guided tours are worth it!). Or if you prefer travelling independently, you could do a free walk using a map which we will provide you with. There are many places to see in the town! Come visit Shakespeare's Birthplace (£14), and watch some of his best-loved scenes brought to life by actors as you stroll through the house; as well as Anne Hathaway's Cottage (£8), the childhood home of Shakespeare's wife. Or take a walk along the River Avon Trail, and admire the beautiful scenery along the way. If you like, you could also rent a bike for half a day to explore the town (£10)! Or just relax by the riverside with your friends! For those interested in creative inventions, you could make a trip down to the Mechanical and Art Design Museum (MAD) (£5)! Stratford-upon-Avon also offers options for shopping as well, with its collection of unusual and appealing shops set amongst major high street stores. The details are as follows:
Time: Leave ICL at 0830, leave Stratford Upon Avon at 1700 Price: £8 (members), £10 (non-members). This covers the price of the return coach ride. Members are welcomed to invite friends along (up to 2), but take note that priority will be given to members.People who manage to sign up will shortly receive a confirmation email with payment instructions. Your place will only be confirmed when you make payment before a stipulated date (to be communicated to you separately again). If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me at 07762835642 or email me at eventsofficer1@ic-singsoc.net. Hope to see you there! Your friendly Events Officer, Yu Zheng |
