Hey everyone!

I hope that we are all enjoying our summer vacation so far! I know I have!

Our Pre-Departure Talk was held last Saturday, 9 Jul at Furama Riverfront Hotel. Thank you to everyone who came down, especially the Academic Reps! I am sure that the incoming freshers and their parents had a fruitful session.

Since it's summer, let's get ready for UKBound! UKBound will be held on 3 Sep 2016, 7pm at Zouk. Tickets are priced as follows: $22(Early Bird) / $24(Regular) / $26(At the door)

For those who cannot tolerate the oppressive heat in Singapore, look forward to this year's Ski Trip! It will be held at Les Deux Alpes, France, from 16-23 Dec 2016. It will cost £579 (+£5 for non-ICSS members), and you can indicate your interest HERE!

Summer also means that we're excited for Warwick Summer Games (WSG)! WSG will be held on 27 Aug at Republic Polytechnic from 9am-6pm! Sign-ups are open HERE and will close on 7 Aug midnight! Sports involved are detailed below.

It might be summer now, but winter is coming! If you would like to get yourself a new duvet, you can order one with us HERE! Single (13.5 tog) and double (10.5 tog) duvets are available, both at $18 each!

Lastly, ICSS is working with AIG again this year to offer a 10% discount for students who apply or renew their AIG Student Assist Plan with us. You can find the specimen policy wording HERE, and sign-up by emailing president@ic-singsoc.net!

P.S. Today is Alfian Sa'at's birthday! Alfian is a Singaporean writer, poet and playwright. He is currently the resident playwright of the theatre group W!LD RICE, and his plays have been translated to German and Swedish, and performed worldwide. Alfian himself has been described as “one of the most acclaimed poets in his country... a prankish provocateur, libertarian hipster”.

1. Pre-Departure Talk

Hi everyone!

Pre-Departure Talk 2016 was held last Saturday, 9 Jul 2016 at Furama Riverfront Hotel. It was a fruitful session for the incoming freshers and parents who not only heard about the pre-departure administration that was required, but were also introduced to ICSS and the many events awaiting them both in Singapore and in London.

I would also like to thank all seniors who came down to interact with the freshers and answered their questions. I daresay that they benefited the greatest from the course mingling held after the talk! We also hope you enjoyed the buffet provided (:

Special mention goes to the Academic Reps who helped organise the freshers, address their concerns and ensure that they received and completed the relevant forms and documents!

3. Ski Trip

Hi everyone!

Hope everyone is enjoying the hot weather back in Singapore or wherever you are holidaying! For those who already miss the cool weather of London and the snow-filled scenery of mountains, there is great news for you as the details for this year’s ski trip are out!

Venue: Les Deux Alpes, France
Date: 16-23 Dec 2016
Price: £579 (+£5 for non ICSS members)

The accommodation we will be staying at is a bit different from previous year’s hostel concept. Instead, it will be in apartment blocks which can house 4-8 people per apartment. Also, for those that have never skied/snowboarded before, instruction will be provided for the beginners so rest assured and do come along!

More details will be coming at a later date, so for those still considering or those who can’t wait for the trip, do sign up HERE early as signups will be on a first come first served basis, with priority to ICSS members. 4. Warwick Summer Games

Hi everyone!

I hope you’re all very excited about this year's Warwick Summer Games (WSG), which will be held on 27 Aug 2016 at Republic Polytechnic from 0900-1800! Sign-ups for WSG are now open, and they close on 7 Aug 2016 midnight! It is FREE to join and lunch is provided as well. WSG is a great platform to meet students from other UK Universities, and just simply to compete, sweat it out and have fun! So what are you waiting for, sign-up HERE and join the various sports group Facebook pages for notifications on trainings sessions! The sports involved are detailed below:

1. Futsal (5 vs 5 – max 8 a team)
2. Touch Rugby (6 vs 6 – max 10 a team, minimum 1 female player on the field and 2 female players on the team)
3. Basketball (5 vs 5 - max 8 a team)
4. Netball (7 vs 7 - max 11 a team, Females only)
5. Captain’s Ball (6 vs 6 - max 10 a team, minimum 1 female player on the field and 2 female players on the team)
6. Floorball (6 vs 6 – max 10 a team, minimum 1 female player on the field and 2 female players on the team)
7. Frisbee (6 vs 6 - max 10 a team, minimum 1 female player on the field and 2 female players on the team)
8. Badminton (Male – Singles / doubles and Female – Singles / Doubles)

5. Duvet Orders

Have you thrown away your duvet while moving? Or is your duvet coming apart? Fret not! We can help you get a new one! If you would like to get a new duvet, simply place your order with us HERE. Details of the duvets available are as follows:

Types of duvets: Single (13.5 tog) and double (10.5 tog)
Price: $18 for both single and double duvets

We will be closing orders on 31 Aug 2016 so do let us know by then if you want to get a new duvet to prepare for winter!

6. AIG Insurance

Worried about your travel plans being affected by flight cancellations or delays? Or having to pay for an air ticket home due to medical emergencies at home? Or hefty medical bills from an injury sustained while doing sports or our awesome ski trip? (touch wood for everything)

ICSS is working with AIG again this year to offer a 10% discount for students who apply or renew their AIG Student Assist Plan with us.
