Updates

Hi everyone,

So. Its summer and most of us are back in sunny Singapore. I hope everyone is having a good time, wherever you are, waiting in London for the Olympics, travelling the world, or just chillin' at home.

Let me cut to the chase and bring you the updates!

1. Pre-departure Talk will be held this Friday at The Treasury. An amendment has been made to the timing since the previous KnT, sorry for the error. The talk will now start at 7pm. The website and Facebook page are both correct. All are welcome to attend, but remember, freshers first.

2. There's a Team Sojourn briefing also on Friday at Raffles City Tower, at 4.15pm. This is for all OGLs, OGMs and Gamemasters.

3. One can hardly forget that DPM Dialogue is coming up too, on the 25th of July. If you want to see Ashley dancing on stage, engage DPM Teo on the impact of social media, and have a good dinner all in one night, then do not hesitate to sign up! Okay I'm kidding. Ashley's not dancing, but the other bits are true.

4. We are looking for people to lead the Freshers' Walkabout on the 29th of Sept. Mark out the date and sign up today!

5. Check out the companies UKSSC has engaged for its career series, namely Lantiq, Exxon Mobil, and Emerson.

6. Finally, there's a new clubbing event organised by the University of Manchester! Details below.

Have a great summer!

Your faithful secretary,
Gabriel

1. Pre-Departure Talk 2012

Date: 13th July 2012 (Friday)
Time: Registration begins at 6:30pm, talk begins at 7:00pm
Venue: Treasury Auditorium, 100 High Street, Level 1, The Treasury, Singapore 179434

Please note the changes in timing! Seniors are welcome to attend to help out and mingle with the freshers. However, please note that the freshers and parents will be given priority for the refreshments provided.

If possible, please inform one of the Exco members early if you are intending to crash so that we have an idea of how many people to expect. Thanks and hope to see you there!

2. FRIENDS

Calling Team Sojourn! (OGLs, OGMs, Gamemasters)

There will be a briefing specially for you this Friday, 13th July to update you on your roles in Sojourn. You should have received an email with more details. Don't forget to RSVP as indicated in your email!

Date: 13th July 2012 (Friday)
Time: 4.15pm
Venue: Raffles City Tower, 21st Floor

On a side note, PDT will be held that same evening at The Treasury at 7pm. So, if you want to see the fresh faces of the new batch of Imperial students, let any of the Exco know that you will be coming!

3. Dialogue Session with DPM Teo Chee Hean

Our alumni, the Imperial College Alumni Association of Singapore (ICAAS), will be organising a dialogue session with DPM Teo this coming Summer holiday. Here are the details for the event:

Date: 25th July 2012
Time: 6:30pm
Venue: Singapore Polytechnic

Cost: SGD20 for early bird ticket, SGD30 at the door

The entire session comprises dinner, followed by a speech by DPM Teo and a dialogue session on the topic: "Social Media and its Role in Shaping Society". This event is open only to Imperial students and alumni.

The last time the ICSS-ICAAS had a dialogue with DPM Teo was 15 years ago, where he launched our old society logo during the event. So this is definitely a chance not to be missed!

4. Freshers' Walkabout

Remember feeling like a complete blur sotong on your first day in London? Remember how you were led by your amazing seniors around the area, who navigated to all the essential places and good eats as if they had a mini-map in their heads? Well, it's now your chance to be that senior.

We are looking for enthusiastic seniors who can commit the entire day of 29th of September (preferably arriving earlier) and are willing to bring the freshers around on the walkabout. There is a big role to be filled here as you will be giving the freshers their first impression of London. Those with a good knowledge of the places around your previous hall (additional halls are a bonus) and of course, the various routes to Imperial, would be preferred. Needless to say, please make sure that you will be in London at this time!

OGLs are encouraged to sign up as the freshers will already recognise you, and so are Hall Seniors as the freshers will be seeing a lot more of you. That said, everyone is welcome. (:

If you're interested, please drop me an email at
secretary@ic-singsoc.net with your name, SG and UK contact nos., email, date of arrival in the UK and previous halls of residence. The most important thing to note is still that you will be in London on the 29th and can commit the whole day. Thanks!

Your faithful secretary,
Gabriel Quek
