Lush – UKBound 09 ended on a high note last Saturday night. A
record total of ***400 guests*** attended this year’s UKBound.
The success of this year’s event would not have been possible
if not for many of your support in coming for this event and
making an effort to be on time.
We hope that every one of you who attended the event had fun and
enjoyed the night.
The Lush 09 Organizing Committee would like to express our

Application for ICSS membership for the coming academic year
(2009/2010) is now open! Joining ICSS will not only enable you to
receive the most updated news on our activities and also fabulous

5. Warwick Summer Games 2009
-----------------------------------------------------------------
ICSS has once again gained glory by being crowned the
**Overall Warwick Summer Games Champions!**
This was after the ICSS Football, Ultimate Frisbee and IC Alumni
Floorball teams each got 1st in their respective events.
Congratulations to all who took part and gave their all during
the competition! Next up is Nottingham Games 2009 in Nov 2009
where we'll look to send many more teams and take part in more
events. All are invited to take part and bring glory to ICSS once
more!

SUMMER GAMES. On the 5th of September 2009, for the first time
ever, students from universities all around the UK will gather in
sunny Singapore to battle for glory for their beloved education
provider (mmm), for glory, for nice shiny trophies, and more
importantly, for bragging rights.
WHO WILL TRIUMPH ON HOME GROUND?
The event will feature 5 team sports – Basketball, Floorball,
Football, Netball and Ultimate Frisbee – and will be held on
the hallowed grounds of Hwa Chong Institution. Registration per
team is only S$20, and alumni and incoming freshers are invited

4. Asia Investment Banking Conference (AIBC) 2009

The "Asia Investment Banking Conference (AIBC) 2009" is an event
initiated by students of the London School of Economics (LSE) and
Singapore Management University (SMU). This 2-day conference will
be held on 23-24 September 2009 in Singapore, at the SMU campus.
The AIBC is focused on the financial services industry,
specifically investment banking, in the Asian market. The program
will consist of keynote speeches, interactive workshops and
discussion panels conducted by reputable senior speakers.
Keynotes will be delivered specifically by Richard
Campbell-Breeden (Head of Asia M&A Goldman Sachs), Glenn
Schiffman (Head of Asia-Pacific Investment Banking Nomura),
Matthew Hanning (Head of Asia-Pacific Investment Banking UBS),
Anthony Steains (Senior MD The Blackstone Group), and two other
very senior representatives from Temasek Holdings and JPMorgan.
Other institutions that will be represented at the event include
- Lazard, Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche
Bank, The Carlyle Group, Linklaters, Clifford Chance, PwC, Ernst

5. NTUC Graduate Trainee Recruitment

NTUC Graduate Trainee Recruitment has received very encouraging
response from Singaporeans in overseas universities.
The programme for their 1st intake has started and the trainees
are having a great time here.

4. Student Network Forum 2009: In Convers(N)ation

The Student Network Forum is an annual student initiative
organised by the United Kingdom Singapore Students' Council
(UKSSC) and is fully supported by the Overseas Singaporean Unit
(OSU). Themed "Singapore's Economy: Where do we stand?", the
Forum this year casts a critical focus on Singapore's open
economy in today's global recessionary climate, and seeks to
explore its impact on employment prospects for overseas and local
undergraduates. Students from leading universities in the United
Kingdom, United States, Canada and Singapore will be able to
engage in critical discussion with their peers. This prestigious
event will be held on the 1st of August, Saturday at University
Cultural Centre, National University of Singapore.

were Freshers? It's now your chance to do the same and we'd like

We will be having our first event to introduce freshers to ICSS
and prepare them for an exciting time in London. The details are
as follows:
**Event**: ICSS Pre-departure Talk 2009
**Date**: 16th July 2009 (<u>**TOMORROW!!**</u>)
**Venue**: NUS Faculty of Dentistry, Level 4 Auditorium
**Time**: 6.30 - 10.00p.m. (Be punctual. Talks start promptly at
6.30p.m.)
We sincerely hope that you could come down to share your
invaluable experiences with the juniors from your course. You
will also be able to purchase ***Lush*** tickets at presale
prices ($16) from us tomorrow!

1. Take the MRT to Buono Vista Station
2. Hop onto 95 at the bus-stop on the same side of
the road as MOE Building

4. Walk along the pavement against the traffic to
NUH
5. FoD is the building on the left edge of NUH when
you are facing NUH

5. Student Network Forum 2009: In Convers(N)ation
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Student Network Forum is an annual student initiative
organised by the United Kingdom Singapore Students' Council
(UKSSC) and is fully supported by the Overseas Singaporean Unit
(OSU). Themed "Singapore's Economy: Where do we stand?", the
Forum this year casts a critical focus on Singapore's open
economy in today's global recessionary climate, and seeks to
explore its impact on employment prospects for overseas and local
undergraduates. Students from leading universities in the United
Kingdom, United States, Canada and Singapore will be able to
engage in critical discussion with their peers. This prestigious
event will be held on the 1st of August, Saturday at University
Cultural Centre, National University of Singapore.
An exciting dialogue with Minister for Manpower Mr. Gan Kim Yong
regarding the Singapore economy, graduate prospects as well as a
career fair awaits you. Your presence at SNF will lend great
weight to the success of the event as sponsors and companies are
especially interested in networking and hiring Overseas

6. Asia Investment Banking Conference (AIBC) 2009
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The "Asia Investment Banking Conference (AIBC) 2009" is an event
initiated by students of the London School of Economics (LSE) and
Singapore Management University (SMU). This 2-day conference will
be held on 23-24 September 2009 in Singapore, at the SMU campus.
The AIBC is focused on the financial services industry,
specifically investment banking, in the Asian market. The program
will consist of keynote speeches, interactive workshops and
discussion panels conducted by reputable senior speakers.
Keynotes will be delivered specifically by Richard
Campbell-Breeden (Head of Asia M&A Goldman Sachs), Glenn
Schiffman (Head of Asia-Pacific Investment Banking Nomura),
Matthew Hanning (Head of Asia-Pacific Investment Banking UBS),
Anthony Steains (Senior MD The Blackstone Group), and two other
very senior representatives from Temasek Holdings and JPMorgan.
Other institutions that will be represented at the event include
- Lazard, Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche
Bank, The Carlyle Group, Linklaters, Clifford Chance, PwC, Ernst
and Young, Oaktree Capital, Bain Capital and McKinsey and Co. The
conference will be covered by recognisable international media
such as the FT, Bloomberg and CNBC.

event as representatives, a subsidized rate maybe negotiable for

Hello everyone!
Remember how you were welcomed into the ICSS family when you
were Freshers? It's now your chance to do the same and we'd like
to invite ALL OF YOU to be part of our orientation package!
We will be having our first event to introduce freshers to ICSS
and prepare them for an exciting time in London. The details are
as follows:
**Event**: ICSS Pre-departure Talk 2009
**Date**: 16th July 2009 (Thursday)
**Venue**: NUS Faculty of Dentistry, Level 4 Auditorium
**Time**: 6.30 - 10.00p.m.
We sincerely hope that you could come down to share your
invaluable experiences with the juniors from your course.
Interested participants, please RSVP with Jasmine at

<u>Directions to Faculty of Dentistry (FoD)</u>
1. Take the MRT to Buono Vista Station
2. Hop onto 95 at the bus-stop on the same side of

3. Alight at the enclave bus-stop (the first

4. Walk along the pavement against the traffic to
NUH

Sojourn 2009 will be held from 28th to 30th August 2009 (Friday
- Sunday) at Costa Sands Resort, Sentosa. It will be a fun-filled
weekend for EVERYONE!! We'd like to invite all of you to come
down and soak in the atmosphere. You might even get a chance to
participate!
There will also be a BBQ dinner on 29th August 2009 (Saturday)
from 6.30pm onwards.
YUMMILICIOUS barbecued and staple/non-barbecued foods will be
served. This includes chicken wings, sausages, otah, satay,
sambal stingray... This is an excellent opportunity to savour BBQ
food in the company of friends and get to know more freshers. So

5. Diving Trip during Summer
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Hey everyone!
I'm currently organising a dive trip this coming summer holidays
and it'll be mainly for people who are interested in learning
diving for the first time. But also, people who already are
certified divers are welcome to join this trip as well! Here are
some details.
Certification: National Assosiation of Underwater Instructors
Open Water Certificate
Place: Either Pulau Aur or Pulau Tioman
Dates: Last weekend of July OR last weekend of August (There
might be an option for 2 separate trips)
Prices: $490 for beginners
$320 for leisure divers
Includes: EVERYTHING! except the seafood dinner in JB at the end
of the trip (which is awesome btw)
For beginner divers, the "everything" includes transportation to
and fro from Singapore to whichever island we're going to,
2xtheory lessons, 1x swimming practice sessions, theory textbook,
NAUI dive log, NAUI dive certification card, theory test, all
your dive equipment, accomodation and food. For leisure divers,
basically the same except all the theory stuff.
For those who are interested but worried that the trip will
clash with work, don't worry. The dive trip is held over one
weekend and there wouldn't be any need to take leave or whatever.
Some common misconceptions also include being bitten by sharks
and drowning. Well, don't worry about that either cause the shark
is more scared of you and you won't drown. Diving's safer than
skiing for that matter.
