Hey there!
Introducing the *ICSS Board Games Loan Portal*! Exclusive for members only,

Introduced in 2017/18 by the 35th Executive Committee, the now-renamed ICSS
Board Games Loan Portal is now open for loans!
This year, the 36th Executive Committee is proud to announce the addition
of a new game to our inventory, the 'local-styled' *LIMPEH SAYS*
(essentially a Singaporean version of Cards Against Humanity)! To quote the
makers of the game, it is:
- A terrible card game for we the citizens of Singapore.
- Joking about everything we can't make fun of.
- Played with friends. If you have any.
- Time to let loose and have fun. Yeah. Have fun.

1. Freshers' Introduction
Hello freshers!
Summer events, from Sojourn to UKBound, have all wrapped up and hopefully
you've packed enough Milo and Chicken Rice packets to see you through the
next 9 months. With less than a week till *freshers' weekend*, I trust that
you're excited to begin your adventure in London! To help ease you in,
we've got a few events lined up for you:
*Hall Walkabout (29th Sept 2018, various timings)*
For the undergraduates staying in halls, your seniors who once stayed in
the same hall will be bringing you to the nearest supermarket to purchase
your necessities (e.g. bedding and kitchenware) as well as sharing some
#lifehacks that'll serve you well over the next year. Also, this is the
perfect opportunity to get to know the other Singaporeans in your hall so
that you know whose kitchen to crash for your cookouts/drinks. :) Each hall
will be making their own arrangements regarding meeting time and the rough
itinerary in their *respective whatsapp chats*. If you're not in one yet,
do contact me and we'll add you in right away!
*Freshers' Fair (2rd Oct 2018, 1100 - 1600 h)*
Similar to a CCA fair back in high school, Freshers' Fair is an annual
showcase organised by ICU to display Imperial's diverse interests. Its a
great time to pick up freebies while browsing through the various clubs and
societies Imperial has to offer. Stop by our booth and get yourself
vouchers for *bubble tea (free drink or 20% off)** when you sign up for
membership! Keep a lookout on our Instagram account (@icsingsoc) for more
information in the coming weeks! To find out more about other Imperial-wide
events during your welcome week, click HERE
<https://union.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d91a1cb130f12317830464586&i…>
for undergraduates or HERE
<https://union.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d91a1cb130f12317830464586&i…>
for postgraduates.
*both vouchers are while stocks last
*OG Walkabout (6/7th Oct 2018)*
Whether you're missing your OG mates or want to explore parts of Greater
London, we've set aside the second weekend for your OG walkabout! Be it a
day trip to a nearby town or a walking tour of London, the choice is all
yours. Don't worry about sticking to this weekend; feel free to hold it on
another day if more people can make it then! :) If you missed out on
Sojourn, this would be a great time to meet Singaporeans across various
courses and halls so let me know if you'd like to join an OG!
*Hyde Park Picnic (13th Oct 2018)*
With the different things that Imperial has to offer, it's a lot to take in
within the first two weeks. Join us on the third weekend to relax and
unwind with some fresh air, games, sports and food at a picnic at the
beautiful Hyde Park, right at the doorstep of Imperial! More details of the
event will be released closer to the event date!
*Major Event Mix & Mingle / Auditions*
If you're still thinking about whether to join for ME, think no more! Take
this opportunity to try something new and meet more people outside your
course and hall. Auditions for cast and chorale will be on the *9th and
11th Oct*, while our pre-production party where we officially kick start
the preparations for ME will be on *17th Oct*.
This is merely the start of the school term so you can look forward to more
exciting activities coming your way! Enjoy your final few days in Singapore
and see you in London! :)
Your frantically-packing-for-London President,
Jacelyn

1. Post-WSG 2018
Greetings, members of ICSS (past and present)!
This year's *Warwick Summer Games* was held on the 25th of August 2018 at
Jurong West Sports and Recreation Centre and as usual, our Imperial
Contingent did us proud!
This year's Team ICSS comprised of 1 Football Team, 1 Basketball Team, 2
Captain's Ball Teams, 1 Frisbee Team and 3 Monopoly Deal players. Our
Basketball and Captain's Ball teams did us proud, both clinching 3rd place,
while our Football and Frisbee teams also achieved respectable positions of
4th and 5th place respectively!
As Mary Lou Retton once said, "A trophy carries dust. Memories last
forever." Win or lose, we hope that everyone who attended had fun and made
new friends at WSG'18! Many thanks to *The University of Warwick Singapore
Society* for organizing the event and to our very own Photography Team
(Chelsea Chen, Celine Mark, Jeremy Tian, Ang Ter Shien and Teckyan Chua)
for the photos taken during the event, which you can view on our Facebook

3. Academeet 2018
Hello everyone!
Now that Sojourn is over, most of our freshers have been welcomed into the
ICSS family and are starting to create strong bonds with both their
batchmates and us seniors. However, the bonding doesn't stop at Sojourn!
Once again, it is time for *Academeet*, where each course is encouraged to
meet up once in Singapore so that both the freshers and the seniors can
interact with one another and form a strong support group within the
course! This will be an excellent way for us as seniors to give our
freshers some course specific advice!
During your course meetup, if your academic representative takes a *step
photograph* and sends it to me along with a *cool caption*, ICSS will
give *SGD$5
cash-back* for every *current Imperial Singaporean student *in attendance.
Do note that this photograph will be *posted on ICSS social media platforms*.
Please also note that each course is only allowed to redeem this cash-back
*once*, although you are more than welcome to have multiple meetups by
yourselves!
If you have any questions regarding academeet, feel free to contact me at
secretary(a)ic-singsoc.net or your respective academic representatives! Have
fun at Academeet!!
Toodles,
Jiawei

1. Major Event 2019 Seniors Sign-Ups
Hi everyone!
With exams over, it's time to start thinking about the new academic year -
and with a new academic year comes a new *Major Event*!
It is my pleasure to announce that work on next year's show is already
underway. Those who have participated in Major Event will no doubt have
sweet memories of glorious past shows, and for those who haven't, there's
no need to feel like you're missing out - now is your chance to join! We
are looking for dancers, actors, singers, musicians, builders, stagehands,
influencers - everyone has something to contribute! The sign-up form can be
found HERE
<https://union.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d91a1cb130f12317830464586&i…>.
Please also take note of the following pertinent points:
1. We are still looking for *chorale directors*. The chorale director is a
key position in our Creative Team and is currently unfilled. If you have
experience with singing and would like to coach the team next year, do
indicate this in the form when you sign up!
2. We would like to recruit the *Lights and Sound Director *earlier this
year as well. Lights and Sound play a vital role in the production every
year, and we would like it to be represented more strongly in the Creative
Team. If you are interested in this, please mention this in the form!
3. You can now sign up as a *lyricist*! If you're interested in music but
don't have much experience in composition, this will be a great opportunity
to get involved! You will be part of the music team, working with the
composers and the scriptwriter to craft memorable and catchy lyrics for our
songs.
That's it from me - exam results may be coming out soon but do take your
time to think about the things you've done that really defines your
university experience. Major Event is one of those things for me, and I
would hate for anyone to miss out on the chance to express their talents
and meet some great friends along the way.
Till next time,
Nat
2. AIG Student Assist Plan
Hello!
ICSS is partnering with AIG yet again to provide the *AIG Student Assist
Plan*! Due to an increase in claims, there has been a change in policy
within AIG such that the *10% discount* applies *only to new applications*
and *not for renewals*.
However, if the *start date* for your insurance policy last year was in*
August/early September* *and* you're only *departing Singapore at least 7
days after that date*, you can submit a fresh application form through
ICSS, and we will try our best to still get the 10% discount for you. If
you'd like to check your policy start date, do contact me via email or text
(president(a)ic-singsoc.net)
