2. Interest for Ski Trip 2019 is Open!
Hello all!
Interest indication for our *annual ICSS Ski Trip* this coming winter
season is now open! This year, our ski trip is bigger and better than ever
before - we have more places up for grabs and, for the first time ever, we
are going to *Val Thorens*! What better way to start your winter holidays
than to spend it in the Singaporean spirit with the ICSS family! Regardless
of whether you are a total beginner or an expert ski stunt-person, bring
your friends along and let's spend a great week in the French Alps!
Val Thorens claims the title of Europe's highest ski area with a height of
2300m. It is part of the famous Three Valleys ski area, with an impressive
140km of piste across all skill levels. More experienced
skiers/snowboarders rejoice, for you can upgrade your lift pass to gain
access to the full Three Valleys, which includes the Méribel and Courchevel
areas. More skiing for all!
The ski trip is also open to all freshers and your non-Imperial friends
(even if they’re from an SG uni!), so do get them to fill in the form too
if they also want a piece of the action with our ICSS family!
Date: *14th to 21st December 2019*
Location: *UCPA Val Thorens, France*
Price: *~£453* (Usual Price ~£779)
*ICSS/UCLSS members get a £7 discount, refunded after booking.*
*ONLY respondents to the interest form will be given booking instructions
(through email) when booking opens*, so do fill in the form early so that
you won’t get missed out! Link here:

Hello!
Hold on tight, this issue contains exciting annoucements!
First up: for those moving into new flats for the next academic year, why
not consider *storing your barang barang under a safe, secure and
affordable service*? Bonus points for not burdening your friends for
storage space in their house over summer. (Disclaimer: no shade thrown at
anyone who left their things in my house 😶)
For seniors in the midst of packing up their lives to return back to
Singapore permanently, don't forget to give your juniors some good lobangs

and sell your second-hand items instead of throwing them away! 😁
While you take time to look back and reflect on your past year, do consider
dropping by our *Pre-Departure Talk* in Singapore over summer to share some
wisdom with the fresh faces joining Imperial next year! Speaking of the
past year (or maybe three), we highly recommend purchasing our very own
ICSS yearbook! This is one decision you will definitely not regret in
*retrospect*. 😏
Bored of weather resembling Singapore and itching to hit the slopes soon?
We are very excited to announce the details of our highly-anticipated
annual *Ski Trip*! Mark your calendars and keep your eyes peeled for more
details on sign-ups coming soon!
That's all from me this time; see you guys back in Singapore!

Mark your calendars for the return of our annual *ICSS Ski Trip* this
coming winter season! This year, our ski trip is bigger and better than
ever before - we have more places up for grabs, and we are going to *Val
Thorens*! What better way to start your winter holidays than to spend it
with this Singaporean family! Regardless of whether you are a total
beginner or an expert ski stuntperson, bring your friends along and let's
spend a great week in the French Alps!
Val Thorens claims the title of *Europe's highest ski area* with a height
of 2300m. It is part of the famous Three Valleys ski area, with an
impressive *140km of piste across all skill levels*. More experienced
skiers/snowboarders rejoice, for you can upgrade your lift pass to gain
access to the full Three Valleys, which includes the Méribel and Courchevel
areas. More skiing for all!
*Dates: 14 to 21 December 2019 Location: UCPA Val Thorens*
ICSS members get a slightly cheaper price, but it doesn't stop you bringing
your other uni friends along! Ski Trip is open to the incoming Freshers of
19/20 too! Pop me a message on FB or through email at
vicepresident(a)ic-singsoc.net if you have any questions :)
Till the next exciting update!
Your excited VP,
Xian Fong

3. Major Event 2020: Call for Script/Creative Team
Hi guys!
Easter break has ended and YOU know what THAT means! It's time for another
episode of
(no not me screwing up exams) yes that's right! Preparing for another
awesome *Major Event*!
So why not take a break from typing out code and doing those calculations
to write up an idea for your vision of ME 2020? Your ideas, your story,
your choice of genre – all we
ask is that you try to integrate some aspects of Singaporean culture for us
to showcase to the Imperial community and that you give some scope for our
talented singers, dancers and musicians to shine as well!
Not interested in doing up a script? We have other exciting opportunities
for you to shine as well! Consider signing up to be part of the creative
team. We are looking for *Dance and Chorale Directors* to fill up the
creative team! Please send an email to majorevent(a)ic-singsoc.net if you are
interested! Follow in your seniors' footsteps who have been there for us
and be there for your juniors next year!
Here are some dates for you to take note of:
*17 May 2019 (Friday)* – Deadline for the preliminary draft. At this point,
we would like to see a *plot outline and one full scene* so that we can get
an idea of your scriptwriting style. Anything longer is very welcome! From
there, the creative team will work with you to help give shape to your
initial ideas.
*14 June 2019 (Friday)* – Final deadline for the finished scripts. Mark it
on your calendars now in case you forget!
Please email your submissions to majorevent(a)ic-singsoc.net. If you have any
questions, do email me at that address as well!
Hope to see you participating in ME 2020!

The Travel Drive is basically a Google Drive folder where you can access
travel itineraries shared by other ICSS members and also contribute your
own ones as well. It may prove useful in planning your future travels and

the verge of giving all you skiing/snowboarding fans out there some *good

In the meantime, do mark down *14th to 21st December* in your calendars. As

Need that free haircut at the London School of Barbering (LSB) but they
have run out of slots in the coming weeks? Fret not, LSB now offers a *£3-5
paid service* with a LSB Qualified barber. While it isn’t free, more slots
are usually available at short notice, and it is still much cheaper than a
haircut at other establishments in London. Note that the Covent Garden
outlet has closed, so slots are only available at Farringdon and Liverpool
Street. Check out their website

Digest
Hello!!
Welcome to the next initiative by the 37th committee -- a rebrand of our
iconic newsletter! Um.. I guess we're gonna need someone talented in art to
help us redesign the banner on top? Anyone?
I hope everyone is having a fulfilling time away from school, either
travelling or catching up on work. If you're wondering why you find
yourself receiving another issue of KnT after just one week, well, the
previous issue was pushed forward to facilitate planning for Thorpe Park,
so look forward to more regularly-timed issues from now on! 😊
If you did not come for AGM last month and/or did not vote in the
leadership elections, you may be interested to find out a bit more about
who exactly your new Exco members are (and how bad their humour can be).
Fret not, for we start of the issue with our* individual introductions*!
Ranging from really long (*cough *P and VP) to really concise, we hope you
get to know us better and give us your support throughout the rest of our
term.
Need a break from all the studying! Come join us in Hyde Park on 25 April
for the annual *Kit-Kat*! Look forward to an afternoon of food (including
some of your cravings that have flown the long 13-hour journey from
Singapore) and games with your friends.
Orders for *Retrospect *are still online at the union shop! Don't miss the
chance to own a physical copy of your SingSoc memories, together with
additional write-ups, painstakingly put together by the Retrospect team.
Remember to play hard and study hard during Easter break! If neither sound
appealing, you could spend time instead lamenting the absurdity of how
daylight savings robbed you of an hour over the weekend.
Your kopi & teh-o loving secretary,
Fu Yixuan
*The wind smashed a mirror on our balcony so just warning you all that the
wind is now unlucky for 7 years.*

*President*
Hi everyone! I am Zhi Hang, your new 37th Singapore Society President! I am
honoured and extremely excited to be able to represent us and bring a step
further forward for Singsoc!
Being the President is a huge step up for me; never have I had such an
opportunity to head an organisation of this scale. However, I won’t shy
away from this challenge and will dedicate my time in building a better
Singsoc for everyone. 😄
For some of us, Singsoc symbolises our unity, friendship and our culture.
The activities and initiatives we organise always put our members at heart.
At the end of the day, we want our members to have a memorable, fun and
enjoyable experience in Singsoc. I believe that this would not be possible
without the involvement and enthusiasm of everyone.
Singsoc was made for its people. I hope that through the 37th, we can
continue to inspire and provide a greater level of joy as previous batches
have done.
Looking forward, we do have many exciting activities and initiatives coming
up so do stay tuned! I sincerely hope that we do have your continued
support this upcoming year and let’s strive towards a continuous
improvement for Singsoc!
*Vice-President*
Nasi lemak is very much part and parcel of Singaporean food culture. And
you must have had it with the legendary sambal chili, scooping dollops of
it onto your plate every time you pop by your nearby kopitiam for your fix
of that heavenly dish. Sometimes you will have to sing a few praises to the
makcik, and watch drooling as she happily tops up another wad of that
oozing goodness.
I am Xian Fong, and I am that tasty complement to your nasi lemak –
essential, red hot, spicy, and you just can’t get enough of me.
In the year forward, the 37th Executive Committee seeks to bring to you
ICSS members a Singaporean experience that is close to all our hearts. Look
forward to more initiatives, more opportunities to get together. These
chances will materialise in the form of more outings and more recreational
options. And we would love to get ideas from you so that we can bring to
you the things that you want.
As the Vice-President, I serve as your channel of praise and criticism for
the ExCo, and at the same time a close friend to you who very much loves to
experience our time in London and Imperial together with you. So do hit me
up if you feel happy, sad, or even lonely 😉.
And as with every message from an ICSS Vice-President, here is some mention
of the annual winter Ski Trip. The Ski Trip is one of ICSS’s hallmark
events that brings Singsoc members of all levels together. It is a chance
to experience skiing/snowboarding regardless of skill level, with your
friends and for a very reasonable price! The details are still in the
works, but for now we hope that you will continue to give the annual Ski
Trip your fullest support, and we look forward to seeing you in December!
*Treasurer*
Hey Singsoc! I’m your new treasurer Jianing. I’m very excited to take on
this role and will definitely not disappoint you guys. In the coming
months, we will be delivering fun and exciting events which you would enjoy
and so please give us your support! As the treasurer, I will try my best to
support the committee in whatever ways I can and ensure that the usage of
our Singsoc fund is maximised. Also, I am very open to feedback so if you
have anything you would like to raise such as opinions regarding budgeting,
feel free to drop me an email! With that, I hope that everyone will be able
to find something that they enjoy in our upcoming events and let’s have fun
together in the year ahead!!
*Secretary*
Hello!! I’m Yixuan, studying mechanical engineering, and I really like dogs.
I’m a huge fan of twenty one pilots, so here’s twenty one facts about me:
1. I love bands like twenty one pilots (duh), Fall Out Boy and Panic! At
the Disco.
2. I love watching musicals (Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton, Matilda, Wicked,
etc)
3. I used to be from Chinese orchestra, and I find it hard to believe that
no such society exists in Imperial yet.
4. I’m 172cm, but somehow still the shortest Singaporean fresher in mech eng
5. (I’m kidding about doing 21 facts, I don’t think anyone will be
interested in all of that, so I’ll spare you guys from it.)
I’m excited to be taking on the role of secretary, delivering fornightly
issues of KnT to your email inboxes (side note: thank you for subscribing,
and drag your friends who aren’t subscribed into doing it!). I will do my
best to elevate the quality of your Singsoc experience in the year ahead,
and I hope that you will render your support to the committee as well! At
the very least, you will (hopefully) look forward to great jokes and
lobangs in every KnT issue. 🤔
*Liaison Officer*
Hi everyone, I am Jin Kai! I am honoured, yet humbled by the opportunity to
be your new Liaison Officer. I look forward to bringing you guys updates on
ICSS activities and also information on lobangs and events in London. As
the manager of communication channels between the exco and the society,
rest assured that I am always open to feedback regarding ICSS events and
initiatives. As such, feel free to slide into the society’s DMs if you
would like to raise any suggestions or give any feedback ;) I am excited to
continue the work of creating a home away from home for you guys and I look
forward to seeing you all (probably through the viewfinder of my camera) at
our events!
*Events Officer 1*
Hi. My name is Qi Hua and I am the new event officer for this year
alongside with Lydia He(*He*). I am studying Mechanical Engineering, and
CAD is my weakness. Oddly, my favourite animals is a CAT. In my free time,
I enjoy activities such as running, swimming and Muay Thai. In the upcoming
year, I look forward to working with all of you to bring you attractive and
inclusive events, so do hit me up if you have any interesting ideas that we
can organise together! Side note: Sojourn sign ups are opening soon, look
out for that!!
*Events Officer 2*
Hi everyone! I’m Lydia, (*Woo*)ne of your new event officers. I like to go
to musicals and museums in my spare time and pretend that I’d run in the
evening. I am thankful and honoured for this opportunity, and I look
forward to bringing to you more fun-filled events! Therefore, do let me
know if you have any ideas or events that you want to organize together. I
hope you are as excited as I am to find out what the year ahead has in
store for us! (Spoiler: Sojourn is coming up and it is going to be great
working on this wonderful event together!)
*Major Event Officer*
Hi guys! I am Meenatchi, the Major Events Officer! Firstly, I would like to
thank each and everyone of you for voting for me and giving me this
opportunity to run ME2020 :D ME2019 was a blast for me and I hope to
continue this success onto ME2020 too!
I think learning and improving is a very important part of my life and I
want ME2020 to be as much of a learning experience for me as for everyone
in it. As for improving, if anyone has any suggestions and comments about
ME2019 please feel free to DM me and I will be glad to keep it in mind.
As for those of us who participated in ME this year, I hope to see many of
you guys come back to ME2020 to spend time with and help your juniors out!
See y'all when summer term ends and the ME grind begins! 😈
*Sports Officer*
Sup everyone! I’m Wei Heng and I’m honoured and excited to be your new
sports officer! I love to play sports and I aim to help members of ICSS
bond with each other through sports and games. I will be striving to make
sports and games accessible and friendly for anyone who wishes to play in
ICSS through an integrated social media platform which will be set up in
the following months. Since you guys will be seeing a lot of me in ICSS
sports and events, here are a few fun facts about me. I’m essentially a
T-rex, because I’m tall, but my arms are short for my height. Also, I’m not
very good at sports, but I play most sports because I enjoy moving about
and having fun. So don’t be shy, come and play! Let’s have fun and bond
through sports and games in the coming year!
2. Thorpe Park Update
Hey guys! The Thorpe Park outing has unfortunately been unable to receive
the minimum number of sign-ups of 25 people. To all the people who signed
up for the outing or were still wondering if you could sign up, thank you
so much for your support and do look out for future outings and events!!
And to everyone else, don’t fret, there will be many more outings to come!
Sincerely,
Lydia and Qi Hua
3. Kit-Kat
Hey there! Studying got you stressed out? Already feeling too burnt out to
start on that next past year paper? Fear not, ICSS is here! Put away your
notes, shut your laptops and head down over to Hyde Park on the afternoon
of the 25th of April to *have a break, have a Kit-Kat*!
Have some fun in the sun and sweat out the stress with some sports. Fill
your tummies up with some yummies like snacks, fruits and Kit-Kat (duh)! Or
if you crave intellectual stimulation that does not involve the words
“first” and “class”, have a go at our variety of board games (which
definitely won’t ruin friendships)!

ICSS 2018 - 2019 Journey Video Montage
This past year has been a whirlwind for us in the 36th, and we are so
honored to have been able to serve you. Please enjoy this video montage
which captures key moments in our journey over the past year! Thank you to
everyone for your support in all our events, and to our societal partners
for your help making our events possible! We look forward to even greater
times with everyone in the society under the excellent leadership of the
37th!
3. Words from the President, Jacelyn
ORD LO! Our term as the 36th Executive Committee has officially come to a
close. I think all of us have some final words that we'd like to leave so I
hope you'll give us the luxury of sharing these with you in our final
edition of Kaya and Toast Times.
If you know me, you'll know that I'm not great at giving speeches. I clam
up and get flustered way too easily. It's easier for my thoughts to flow in
written word instead so here're the words that I didn't manage to say and
thanks that I didn't manage to give during AGM.
There was an idea... To bring together a group of remarkable people, and
see if we can become something more. To the *36th*, I can't *begin *to
describe how thankful I am to have you as a team. Honestly, I was quite
apprehensive about going into ExCo, especially since we came from two
different social circles. However, over the course of working together in
the year, my trust in your judgement grew and I could safely leave decision
making in your hands. To *Jiahao*, thank you for bring my trusty right hand
man and always being open to discussing decisions together. I know you were are
probably sick of seeing my name pop up on notifs and you'd complain about
how you were meeting me more than my boyfriend in summer but I'm really
grateful for our time in ExCo together because I found a really close
friend that I know I can count on for years to come :). To *Sean*, despite
your alcoholic *tendencies *and intermittent blur moments, I'm thankful
that you're always so detailed and ready to help out with anything remotely
money related (especially with ME). To *Jiawei*, thank you for always
rationalizing things out and being the bearer of wise words. To *Jenny*,
I'm thankful that you've put in your best for every event and it really
shows in every event that you head. To *Sky*, thank you for constantly
being the sober one and looking after others when things get *a little wild*.
To *Celine*, thank you for constantly keeping up with the million and one
things that you've to do without much prompting from me. To *Nat *who was
late to the party, I'm grateful that you kept pushing for the ME that you
envisioned and I'm glad it all paid off! Lastly to our resident law
enforcer, *Andy*, thank you for always being a step head (*someone *finished
OGM slides in *summer*) and offering to help with work despite constantly
complaining "Mech Eng shag ah". *Although I didn't ask for this team, I
couldn't have asked for a better team to work with*.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank my Biochem *coursemates*.
Even though I don't see you often for *some reason*, I'm thankful for the
concern that you guys constantly shower me and the familiarity of home that
I can always come back to. Thanks for being there to guide me by answering
my last minute questions and for the mini food outings that we'd have from
time to time.
To my fellow *batchmates*, thank you for supporting us by attending the
events throughout the year and being the safe haven I can retreat back into
at the end of the day. Other than looking forward to the slurps at the end
of the event, seeing everyone together again at the various ICSS events
really warms my heart. Thank you for being the fun bunch of friends that
I've created memories to last with :). To the *freshers*, I'm happy to see
that most of you have found your place here and getting to personally know
you guys a little better was really the cherry on the cake. As your batch
takes over the wheel, I hope that you'll give them the support that they
need to recreate the wonderful experience that you had. To the *seniors*,
you've provided us with an immense amount of support and I'm thankful to
have had a core group of people who were willing to step forward to help
whenever we needed it. The 36th really couldn't have done it without you
guys volunteering to help whenever you could. To *everyone who's been there
for me throughout the year*, thank you. The nights at North End House, late
night early morning conversations and impromptu meetups reminded me of the
reason that I chose to serve in the first place - to create a home that
felt just like this.
To my *ME dance team* (incl. cast), thank you for giving me the pleasure to
choreograph something small for you to show off. Hopefully our attempts at
cooking lunches during combined rehearsals left a mark on you, especially
our little hotpot at the Great Hall! It's been an honor watching every
single one of you perform on stage; to ME 2020? :)
They say behind every successful man, there's a woman. To *Matthew*,
despite the constant "why you never spend more time with me?", thank you
for being my super understanding pillar of support, especially during the
crunch periods, for listening to my dilemmas, and offering the simplest yet
wisest advice. This journey was made more smooth sailing with you by my
side and I'm looking forward to the road ahead! :)
To the *newly elected committee*, glhf. Thank you for taking on the arduous
task of continuing the legacy that years of seniors have built upon. This
journey won't be easy but there'll always be people around to help (like
me!!) so don't be afraid to reach out to us. No matter what you guys do,
know that we'll always have your backs. :)
Lastly, to *Singsoc*, 谢谢你. It has been an honor serving as your president
for the past year and despite stepping down, know that my journey doesn't
end here. You are, and always will be, my home away from home.
For the very last time, your madam president,
Jacelyn
4. Words from the Vice-President, Jiahao
As we prepare to step down, I would like to take this opportunity to say
thank you to everyone who has supported me and the 36th throughout the
entire year. Be it through helping out in an event or by watching ME, a big
thank you for your contribution to ICSS, and I hope that you enjoyed all
the events as much as I did! Please continue to support the 37th and keep
making Singsoc your family. It was a pleasure serving you all for the past
year, and I hope to continue seeing you around campus or at future events.
To my *Ski Trip Participants*, thank you all for your support and I hope
you all enjoyed the trip! Thank you to all the seniors who sacrificed your
precious ski time to help guide the less experienced skiers/snowboarders.
Hopefully we can avoid getting stuck in a snowstorm, rushing to get back
before sunset in the future though. To everyone who skied with me
throughout the trip, thank you for making the trip incredibly fun and I
hope to be able to ski with you again in the future!
To my* Dance Team*, thank you for all the dance sessions together, for all
the wonderful memories forged and for encouraging me to dance with you all
for ME, something I definitely did not plan for when ME started. Despite
having the smallest team, you all still had a big impact on the show and I
hope you all had fun doing so! Thank you Rachel for organizing the team and
all the trainings, it was definitely sad that you were unable to watch the
results of all your hard work and coaching. Also thanks to Jacelyn for
handling most of the team administration.
To my *Props Team*, thank you for the amazing work that you all did for ME.
The props looked beautiful and you all did a great job handling backstage
work despite having so few people. At times it seemed that we would
struggle to finish everything in time, but you all put in the extra time
and effort when it counted and not only pulled through, but made ME look
great again! I'm going to miss the post session dinners with you all. Thank
you Xian Fong and Jin Kai for all your hard work as directors, and for
successfully rallying the rest of the props members to sacrifice so much of
their time to help with props week after week. Thank you Rachel for
supporting me through the past few months, especially when I was extremely
busy with ME.
To my *housemates*, thank you for being there to support us through every
event, for helping us when needed and for letting exco work dominate many
conversations throughout the year. Thank you Zenas for your help when
singsoc conflicted with coursework, and thank you Ashley for all the great
banter and friendship at home. To Jacelyn, I remember the seniors advising
us not to bring singsoc work home, but thanks for being a door away when I
needed to discuss anything singsoc related.
To the *36th*, thank you for all your perseverance and dedication the past
year. It has been extremely trying at times being constantly undermanned
and having to keep filling in for each other's roles, but we survived and
it would not have been possible without each and every one of you (even
though we tried to go 6 months without having a full exco). Thank you
Jacelyn for asking me to run for VP, and for all your support in planning
ski trip.
To the *37th*, I wish you all the best with your year ahead as exco. It
will be tough and at times you might question yourself, but keep giving
your best and it will be worth it. Do not be afraid to ask for help, be it
from your friends, your batchmates, or from previous excos, it will save
you lots of wasted time and energy; sometimes you cannot be sure until you
ask. Thank you Xian Fong for taking up the mantle of VP, I trust that you
will be as conscientious as you were in props and help bring ICSS to
greater heights!
Your finally done(cing) with work Vice President,
Jiahao
5. Words from the Secretary, Jiawei
It feels incredibly surreal drafting my last KnT issue. Without my knowing
it, writing and editing the Kaya & Toast Times every fortnight became an
almost comforting ritual, one that I performed with fulfillment and pride.
It was an honor to manage such an important communique for our society, and
I wish to thank everyone who diligently took the time to read every issue (*and
criticize my poor puns afterwards*). It has been an incredible and
enriching experience serving as the Secretary of ICSS. Being a part of this
society has meant a great deal to me, and it has made my university life an
exhilarating one, filled with new experiences and good company. This role
is by no means easy; indeed, oftentimes there is quite a bit of frustration
involved, but it always ends with a rewarding smile and time well spent. I
thank everyone for allowing me play this incredible role - I hope that my
efforts have contributed in some way to making your time here at Imperial
better, and I sincerely apologize for any shortcomings I must have had. I
must also thank all those who've given me so much support during my term.
To the *AY2018/2019 batch of Academic Representatives*, thank you very much
for your help since the start of my term! From coming down to speak to the
freshers during PDT to organizing and facilitating the Academeets, thank
you for all your efforts, and I hope you have enjoyed your role as well!
To the *Chorale team of 2019*, thank you for contributing to Major Event
2019! It was a pleasure being your TA, and I believe that you've all found
it an enjoyable and enriching experience! I hope that you continue to
nurture the friendships you've forged with each other, and hopefully give
back to the next Major Event together!
To my *biology seniors, coursemates and juniors*, thank you very much for
being a part of my university experience and contributing to the society!
Given that biology is such a challenging course, it was a huge relief to
have your support as I balanced the workload of the course with the demands
of the society. Thank you to all the seniors for setting such a high
standard and helping us maintain it! I certainly would have been much more
stressed out if it wasn't for you all! Thank you especially to *Yujie* and
*Farhan* for not just being excellent role models, helping me out whenever
I needed some advice, but for also being great senior MOE officers!
Speaking of MOE officers, I am extremely grateful for my fellow MOE
batchmates, *Tershien* and *Kahwhye*. Both of you have been a great help
not just since the start of university but also during my time as
Secretary, stepping up and supporting me whenever I needed you. I hope that
our second half of uni life is as exciting, and I look forward to serving
with you in the future!
My university life would not be this fun without the presence of certain
people: *Annabel, Ben, Kuanyang, Junhong, Shawn, Ramon, Yuanrong,* who gave
me motivation and distraction from otherwise tough times doing singsoc
work. You guys are nice people when sober, and absolutely delightful (or
wretched depending on your world view) when drunk, and I thank you all for
giving me so much comedy.
To my housemates, *Sean, CS and Jenny*, thank you for being an absolute
pleasure to live with. The word home truly feels fitting when I think of
our house, and its heartwarming to think on all the fun times we've had so
far. To Sean and Jenny, it is especially cool to have fellow committee
members I can immediately turn to for help at home. I'm always grateful
that our working together only bonded us closer, rather than create any
friction. To Jenny especially, thank you for going though the tough times
together with me as we tried our best to serve. It may have been
challenging at times to work together, especially when we have a difference
in opinion, but we always made it work, and it often helped us gain the
extra dose of support we needed. I'm thankful to have had this experience
with you, and also look forward to more free time together! To CS, I'm sure
I speak for Sean and Jenny when I say I'm so sorry we kept bringing exco
talk to our house, and thank you for being so supportive and a great friend
nonetheless. You are always someone we can count on for help and for good
times around the living room table. Please spend more time with us now that
we've ORD-ed, and don't disappear over the summer next year HAHA. Here's to
more good times together!
Lastly, a big thank you to my *fellow committee members *for being a great
team to work with. I have learnt a lot from my time in the committee and
from each of you, and I'm glad our term was a success! A hugeee thank you
to *Tricia* for all the guidance you gave me during my term - it really
made my job so much easier! I hope I've not let you down! All the best
to *Yixuan
*for the upcoming term! I look forward to seeing your excellent work, and
I'll always be here to help if needed!
Once again, thank you to everyone, and I wish the 37th all the best!!
Ord lo,
Jia Wei
6. Words from the Treasurer, Sean
Hello SingSoc!!
Thank you everyone for supporting SingSoc's activities for yet another
year! Whether it is signing up as an OGL for *Sojourn* and doing your part
and more (and for some, cleaning up after others) or contributing to *Major
Event* and pitching in for the performance on stage (and again maybe
cleaning up after me), I hope everyone has enjoyed themselves and made new
friendships. :) SingSoc is a family but it will not survive without the
support of everyone (not just the committee) so do look for ways to
contribute so that the 37th can make SingSoc even better for everyone!
To *Music Team*:
Most of what I wanted to say are in your notes - but thank you again for
coming forward and putting in the hours; I am grateful for being your team
assistant and hope you enjoyed the rehearsal process (and the food, when it
comes on time and with meat). We supported the production on-stage and I
think you all agree with me that the whole ME team put up a show surpassing
expectations. Thank you to the songwriters and conductors who invested so
much more into writing and conducting rehearsals (particularly Maurice and
his *magnum opus* in the curtain call), you all are the life of Music Team.
Special mention to Jia Yi the music director for being Capable and always
looking out for Music Team (and for all the bants), you the best. Happy to
be your TA and see you all in Music Team next year. ;)
To the *36th Committee*:
Again, what I wanted to say are mostly in your notes, but thank you to each
of you for your perseverance when times are tough, for your great work
ethic, and also for the light-hearted moments we share (particularly as the
term progressed). It wasn't an easy journey (and it looked much more
daunting 3 months in) but it was made doable by everyone's individual
sacrifices and we should take pride in having accomplished what we have.
Through these 12 months I've also learnt more about each of you (and have
been pleasantly surprised by some) and I am grateful for having been in the
same committee as you guys. Looking forward to meeting up without work to
do :) (84a maybe?)
To *Aaron *(the 35th Treasurer):
Thank you for your guidance the past year! I may have been insistent and
annoying but thanks for putting up with that and showing me the ropes :)
(time to join you on the correct side of ORD hahaha)
To *Jianing *and the *37th Committee*:
Thank you for stepping up to run for the committee! The journey will not be
easy but work hard and help out your committee whenever you can and you
will find the whole journey much more rewarding. :) Also, I am just a
message away, ask me regarding *anything* (otherwise I'll start breathing
down your neck).
To the 37th Committee, thank you all for stepping up - you all have the
mandate of the society and it's on you guys to make SingSoc great again
(okay no pressure). Be daring, watch out for each other, and put your heart
into everything you do! :)
For the first time,
Sean
7. Words from the Events Officer, Jenny
Hello ICSS! What a year it has been! This past year has really been one
long roller coaster ride, filled with *many many* ups and downs. Looking
back to a year ago, from SFP -> PDT -> Sojourn -> UKBound -> Christmas
Party -> CNY Dinner, it is really amazing how far we have come. Being a
part of ICSS has really made my university life much more interesting and
fulfilling, even with all its challenges. I would like to thank everyone
for giving me this chance to serve ICSS to the best of my abilities and I
hope the events I have helped planned and organised made a difference to
your time here in Imperial!
To the *36th Committee*, it has been an honor to serve ICSS next to you.
Thank you for supporting the exco by doing work outside of your job scope
(especially during summer when we were never at full power)!! I have really
grown personally and professionally from my run as an events officer and
I'm glad I decided to run 1 year ago. Our journey as an exco has finally
come to an end, and I guess now we can finally sit back and enjoy ICSS
events once again! To my partner in crime,* Sky*, we have had our fair
share of problems, from SQTs to juggling issues between planning events and
studies (*cause engineering shag ah*), but it has really been a fun
experience that I do not regret :)
To the *HC, HG, Yuan Rong, many many other seniors and even freshers*,
thank you for supporting us behind the scenes for our events. At every
event, there will always be someone willing to lend a hand by helping to
set up the room or clear up the rubbish or take pictures or take care of
*certain* drunk people (*and the list goes on*). I am really grateful to
you guys (you know who you are!) as these small little actions really do
add up and make a difference.
To my dear *Team Sojourn*, I just want to say a *HUGE THANK YOU* for
volunteering so much of your time during the summer. After spending 3/4 of
the year in London, that 3 months in Singapore was definitely very precious
to each and everyone of you and I am extremely grateful that you took time
out of your busy schedules to support Sojourn. As a fresher, Sojourn was
*the* singsoc event that left the most lasting impression on me.
Hence, during my term as the events officer, I sincerely hope that I was
able to provide a similar experience to the AY2018/2019 freshers :) A huge
shout out to my *Mediacorp Team* (Gavin BOSS, Bjorn, Rachel, Siew Han),
*OGHs* (Annabel, Jeremy, Chung Chi, Ram, Simon, Zenas), *SFs*, *Ninjas*, *Game
Masters* and *OGLs* that supported us in any way or form! You guys are the
real MVP as without you, Sojourn would not be possible!!
To my awesome *Cast Members*, I will collecting orders from OC until 5pm
today! HAHA Jokes aside, I really miss cast sessions with all of you! After
spending 2-3 times a week seeing all your faces, suddenly having my Mondays
and Wednesdays free now feels completely out of place. All of you are
really very talented people from all walks of life that can sing, act and
even beat box and it has been a pleasure to be your TA!! To quote Nat, *ME
2019* was a 10/10, would watch again and I am very proud to be a part of
TEAM CAST! ^^ "Why is a building called a building if it has already been
built?" - Rizwan
To MAH *HOMIES*, CS, Sean and Jia Wei, thank you for all the impromptu late
night heart-to-heart talk sessions! It is really comforting to know that I
have someone to talk to and share my problems just a few steps away! To CS,
I am so sorry you had to endure with all the exco talks and being dragged
to all ICSS events due to peer pressure. But no worries, the year is
finally over and we can now spend more time together chilling at home :)
Cheers to more exciting adventures ahead!
To my *Coursemates*, Benjamin, Kuan Yang and Jun Hong, as I sit here
writing my ORD post right after RDCP submission (*and with only 4 hours of
sleep*), I am extremely thankful to have you guys with me as we suffer in
Chemical Engineering together. Trying to manage my time between ICSS and my
studies have truly been a challenge, but your support and banter really do
help me push through. Now that I am stepping down, I hope to see you guys
in class more often!! :)
To the *37th Committee*, and especially to the newly elected *EOs Qi Hua
and Lydia*, I would like to wish you all the best for the upcoming year. It
will definitely not be smooth sailing, but as long as you stick together as
a team, things will always work out! And if you do hit any speed bumps, you
are always welcome to come find us for any advice or words of wisdom. To
everyone else in SingSoc, thank you so much for supporting us. The
participants are the heart and soul of any event and without your
attendance, there is simply no purpose in planning events. With that said,
I hope you guys will continue supporting ICSS in the years to come, be it
through participating in ME or simply coming down for Christmas Party to
hang out with friends. That will be all from me, over and out :)
Finally ORD LO **throws jokey cap into the air**,
*Lim Jenny*
8. Words from the Events Officer, Sky
*To my EXCO,*
This has been a hectic year for all of us. We've been through countless
numbers of late-night meetings and I still remember how after one of our
first few meetings, we nearly got ourselves stuck in school! Just let me
rant for one last time! Sometimes, I get really frustrated as our meetings
would dragggggg on for hours, and sometimes we would even have to carry
that issue on to the next meeting. This occurred multiple times, but I know
that the main reason why is because we care so much for SingSoc and always
place the welfare of our members as our #1 priority. I am truly grateful to
have you guys on this long journey, and hopefully we will meet again not
for work-related stuff but to enjoy some proper food!
*Jacelyn*: Thank you for always reviewing our progress and constantly
reminding us to be on track. We all know that you did a lot of stuff and we
are thankful for that.
*Jiahao*: You did a great job organizing Ski Trip and everyone loved it!
Even though you don't get as much screen time as Jacelyn, the whole exco
knows how much you have contributed to SingSoc!
*Jiawei*: Sorry for all the late Kaya & Toast posts! Thanks for always
double checking my English before sending it out! HAHAHAHA thanks for
taking care of Chorale because I always have a tight school schedule and
didn't have time to buy food.
*Sean*: Thank you for being our SingSoc's Merlion. Joking!!! I mean, thanks
for handling our finances and making sure that we have enough funds to last
through each of our events. I still remember going through a lot of shops
to compare prices in order to save up more money for Sojourn.
*Andy*: Thanks for always designing our posters! I really depended on you a
lot because I am so bad at it. Thanks man!
*Celine*: Sorry for providing you with all the event information at late
hours! Thank you for always being patient with me! Also, thanks for
coordinating with the PhotoKakis to ensure that all our events have pretty
pictures!
*Nathanael*: Good job making Major Event great again! Even though our team
was small, we made it through together!
*Jenny*: Thanks for being the best partner. I am sorry that I didn't
execute each event as well as I wanted to because of my workload. A year
ago, we were sitting at 568 brainstorming with Yuan Rong and Annabel just
to decide what to write for our manifestos. Somehow, we made it and we
spent an insane number of hours discussing Sojourn and UKBound. Thanks for
agreeing to go with crazy ideas and taking a huge risk with me. I am
grateful to have you as my partner. *brofist*
*To special hotline #1260 (Hua Chong and Huang Guan),*
Thanks for being 24/7 contactable when Jenny and I needed your advice on
certain things. Your constructive feedback really helped to make planning
easier!
*To my housemates who are also my course mates + Onion,*
Thanks for helping me to cook lunch/dinner whenever I had chorale
practices. Thanks for helping me to catch up with each coursework,
especially the project right after Major Event when we did not manage any
sleep until the deadline. I thought I might have a heart attack after
making that sprint from the library to the fourth floor of Skempton but we
made it! Sorry for being a true burden but now I know who my brothers are
and that I can always rely on you guys. Also, THANKS FOR THE ICE-CREAM,
rachel!! :D
*To Team Sojourn,*
Sojourn is the first main event that every single fresher would experience
before coming to London. I really need to thank every single senior that
took time off to plan each segment of the camp. Planning the camp was not
easy as everyone had different schedules and I had to make multiple
late-night calls with Bjorn and Gavin regarding the storyline and games. I
really do appreciate the amount of effort by the *Mediacorp* team (Bjorn,
Gavin, Rachel, Siewhan) in creating clues and evidences. For the *OGHs*
(Annabel, Jeremy, Chung Chi, Ramana, Simon and Zenas), thanks for breaking
the ice and bonding the freshers together. Also, thanks to my *Cast *(Jonathan
Wong, Nigel Choo, Rachel Low, Siew Han, Marvin, Isaac) for riding along
with this crazy idea! I hope you guys had fun in the lead roles. Of course,
Sojourn would not have been a success without the help of every senior.
Given the chance, I would have liked to thank everyone personally, and on
behalf of our successors, I hope that the seniors would give the same
amount of effort and trust to the next batch. <3
*To my beloved Year 1s,*
Taking on the role of the events officer wasn't easy for me but it was due
to the strong encouragement from each of you that kept me going. Thanks for
always jio-ing me for gatherings and drinking sessions. Sometimes, it feels
like you guys are the ones that are the events officers of my uni life and
I appreciate it. Thanks for keeping record of how many times I've screwed
up and always reminding me of the generation gap between us. *EH! I not
that old ok?!* Anyway, I am always open to meeting up anytime (if i am ever
free from my coursework).
*To my chorale team,*
Yea, no more practice liao. Thanks for participating in this year's Major
Event as part of chorale. I know it is not easy learning something new, but
now you guys are experienced. I think most people would think that my
primary and secondary school CCAs would be basketball due to my height, but
in actual fact, I did choir for more than 10 years and I was in soprano the
whole time. I really really really love being a part of chorale and I hope
that you guys had fun too! I will definitely miss you guys and also feel
sad that I will be unable to 飆高音 (hit high notes, G) in school. I guess I
can only do it at home from now on unless someone takes up the role as
Karaoke IC *koff*. I hope you guys will carry on as part of chorale next
year and encourage more people to join!

are never cold <3" - Sky, ME 2019 [cr: Jonathan Peh & Simon Ang]*
*To everyone,*
Thanks for your support which helped me complete this journey. It wasn't a
smooth sailing one, but it was your encouragement and support that made it
worthwhile! I wish I could have contributed more to the society, but Jenny
and I must hand over the torch. We will be supporting the next exco from
the shadows and I would like everyone to give them the necessary support as
well! Thanks!
Lydia and Qihua. GLHF. Lol.
Signing off for the last time,
Your *How-High-Is-The-Sky* Events Officer,
Chun Yi Teo
9. Words from the Sports Officer, Andy
*What a journey it has been, ICSS. *
Now writing this post while simultaneously rushing a lab report and a
business (*yes, business*) presentation, it has been an eventful, tiring
but fulfilling year as the Sports Officer, and I would like to thank each
and every one of you in ICSS who has supported me and the 36th in all our
events. We hope you guys have enjoyed the journey as much as we did!
Overseeing the ICSS sports community the past year, it was certainly
satisfying to see all of you guys have fun and bond through sports, while
also witnessing the team spirit exhibited while representing #teamicss, be
it in WSG, NWG or in our ad-hoc friendlies. May #teamicss continue to grow
from strength to strength and continue to do ICSS proud, while always
remaining an avenue for members to interact and forge friendships!
To the *Legendary 36th*:
It definitely wasn't an easy year, but we sure as hell pulled through and
delivered. Thank you to each and every one of you guys for the support and
camaraderie throughout the past year as we put out fire after fire while
overcoming all the obstacles in our way. Couldn't have asked for a better
team to be a part of, and thank you for tolerating my '*humor*' and
complaints, and to quote *Ariana Grande*,
*Thank you, next I'm so freaking grateful for my Ex(co)*
It's been a good run, now we rest!
To my capable Sports Reps *Yu Jie, **Carys, Eugene,** Kai Wen, Howard, Ian,
Kuan Yang, Chuan Sheng, Nigel, Chung Chi, Elton & Jacelyn*:
A big thank you to you guys for your behind-the-scenes work in making sure
our members get to enjoy themselves at each respective sports session!
Thank you for bearing with me as I chase you guys for receipts and claims,
and for putting in the extra effort to assist me in organizing more
friendlies for our members!
Hope that you guys enjoy the appreciation dinner and like me, it's now time
for you guys to '*pang-gang*' and find the next batch of *Sports Reps*!
To my *'50 Shades of Chai Dao Kueh' **Props **and Backstage Team*:
It has definitely been a long and tiring journey, and thank you all for
your nights spent cutting wood, painting, hammering and nailing stuff; the
success of *ME2019 *would not have been possible without the fantastic
props you guys made from scratch! You guys are no doubt the unsung heroes
for *ME2019* and as your *TA*, I'm proud of the fantastic work you guys
have done!
Hope that you guys would support *ME2020* and if you guys decide to join
Props again next year, rest assured that I will be there to cheer you on
(finally) as an audience member!
To my beloved *ICSS Board Games*:
Thank you for always being by my side in my cupboard throughout the past
year...
Just kidding, but no, seriously, you guys should loan the board games more
often man...
To *McEngBordux*:
Thank you for being the best coursemates in the worst (*in terms of contact
hours, we still have the nicest building in Imperial tho*) course possible
in Imperial. Juggling my Exco responsibilities together with Mech Eng would
not have been possible without the help you guys have given me for the past
year and a half, with special thanks to *GavNet* for the tutorials and
course notes! Great to have you guys around to share the stress (analysis)
and banter of our course even though we now only attend around 5 out of our
25 scheduled contact hours a week (because what's the point?). *Let's
continue to press on, Pork Guys!*
Last but not least, a special mention to ma bois at *ICSS Football*:
Thank you and a job well done for exacting revenge on last year's *6-1 loss
to LSE Singsoc*. As the saying goes, '*revenge is a dish best served cold*',
and ending off my term in office with a *resounding 4-0 victory* 4 days
before our AGM is as sweet as it gets.
*See you guys around at Westway and may we continue the annual victory! *
To quote *Doctor Strange*, for all of us in the 36th, '*We're in the
endgame now*'. It's now time for us to step down from our roles and
handover to the incoming *37th Executive Committee*. May you guys provide
the same support that you gave us to the *37th* (and hopefully even more)
and may *ICSS* continue to prosper and be the '*Ohana*' for all of us!
To the *37th*, all the best for your upcoming term and may you guys
continue to make *ICSS* and sports great!
Your *Sports Officer Emeritus*,
Andy Liew
10. Words from the Liaison Officer, Celine
"Celine Mark posted in Imperial College Singapore Society Freshers 18/19".
Thank you to everyone for letting me spam your social media and harass you
with my camera. It is a bittersweet end to this journey of being your LO,
but I am grateful for this opportunity. Additionally, it is such an honor
to be a part of the Retrospect team; to be given the chance to make
memories into something tangible for dust to lay on. Thank you to all the
photokakis and to every member on the Retrospect team; and especially Ter
Shien for helping me so very very much along the way, I don't know how I
would have been able to do it without you man. And to Jin Kai, all the best
in everything and don't forget that if you need any help, your friends and
I are just one WhatsApp text message away! :)
11. Words from the Major Event Officer, Nathanael
My time in ICSS, even before coming to London, has been dominated by one
thing - Major Event. It's almost impossible to conceive that I've finally
come to an end of that journey. And I almost forgot - Exco's been quite a
ride too. It's been a long and fruitful year as a member of the 36th,
though not so long as the rest. I hope I've been a blessing to you all, and
to those who have blessed me:
*My cast and crew:*
I want to thank you *so *much for the heart and soul you've poured into
this project. I am sorry for all the ways I could have served you better,
but thank you for persevering and continuing to believe in the production.
I hope it has been a wonderful and fruitful experience for you and that
you've enjoyed it as much as I have. Always remember that 16 Feb 2019 will
always be your day, and ME 2019 will forever be your show.
*My Creative team:*
Words cannot do justice to how indebted I am to the amazing work and talent
of each and every one of you. There's so much more I have to say to you
individually but thank you for being the hands that have shaped ME into the
success that it turned out to be. It's been one hell of a journey, from
almost failing to pull it off to becoming one of the best runs ICSS has
ever had. Now that we're finished, I hope you will look back upon it with
fondness and triumph.
*The audience of ME 2019:*
I don't think the audience of a show ever gets the recognition they
deserve. Thank you first and foremost for coming to our show - we literally
could not have done it without you guys. But more than that, you were a
fantastic, receptive audience. Your reactions truly matter to the
performers, and I was so glad everyone seemed to have noticed the wonderful
little touches and subtle jokes put into the performance. Thank you for
your energy, enthusiasm and applause. I hope to see you next year!
*My course mates:*
Haha.
*The 36th Executive Committee:*
What a year it's been! Thank you all for embracing me as one of your own
and having my back when it came down to it during Major Event; for your
proactivity and engagement. You all have truly gone above and beyond your
duties as TAs (especially you, *Jiahao*). Hopefully I've been more help
than hindrance to you all. I can't say I will miss our long, long meetings,
but I will miss having you guys over!
*The Major Event Officer of the 37th Executive Committee:*
The first thing I should say is thank you, and congratulations. You have
taken up the mantle for the most unusual, and some would say challenging,
role in the Executive Committee. The second thing is, sorry - you have
quite a task ahead. The time has come for ME to change to serve its purpose
better. While I have plenty of mistakes for you to improve on, I hope I
have inspired you regardless and set an example worth following. I will be
watching eagerly for how ME takes its shape next year, and I will do my
best to be where you need me to be. Other than that, take care of your
ExCo, and they will take care of you. Godspeed, Meenatchi!
Yours for the very last time,
Nat
