                        Updates
Hi everyone,
How are you all enjoying your summer? Spice it up even more by joining ICSS
in our summer events below!
Firstly, UKBound: Vogue has arrived! It will be held at *Zouk*, on *15th
Sept (Saturday)*. More details can be found below. If you want to wish to
help out with the event, you may contact Ting Wei at
eventsofficer1(a)ic-singsoc.net.
Also back in town, we have the annual Warwick Summer Games! Our sports
officer has a fierce hunger for the top spot this year. Do not let his call
to arms fall upon deaf ears! It's once again time to take up your weapons,
bats, racquets, and sticks, and march to face the challenge! It is time to
sound the horn and claim the title which was so nearly ours before. Sign up
now!
Thirdly, the DPM Dialogue is *this Wednesday, 25th July*. Don't miss out on
the chance to engage DPM Teo on social media and its role in shaping
society.
Last among the events, UKSSC has organised a forum with Minister Chan Chun
Sing on the *4th of August*, with our Singapore Identity as a theme.
Personally, I find this yet another topic that is close to our hearts, with
the recent influx of foreigners and resultant shift in our identity.
I would also like to express my appreciation for all those who attended the
recently concluded Pre-Departure Talk, on behalf of the Exco. Your
continued support is essential to the success of our events and the event
really would not have been possible without your dedication to and belief
in our mission to create a home away from home for all Singaporeans.
Finally, if you recall, we held our Logo Design Competition sometime ago.
The results and the new logo is now out! Check it out below.
P.S. There will be no real need for bats and racquets at this year's WSG,
only floorball sticks, and your hands and feet. And brain.
Your faithful secretary,
Captain Obvious (Gabriel)

 4. Pre-Departure Talk 2012
A big thank you to all those who came down for the Pre-Departure Talk held
on the 13th of July, Friday, especially all our wonderful Acad Reps!
Although the venue may not have been the ideal place for a mingling
session, the enthusiasm of the seniors more than made up for it. It is
truly heartening to see many of you aiding the freshers in their exciting
new journey. In addition, with an encouraging number of sign-ups, we look
to be in a good position to claim the Warwick Summer Games trophy this
year! Once again, thank you all for your enthusiasm and may we all continue
our efforts in building our ICSS family.

 5. 30th Anniversary Logo Design
The votes are in, the results have been tallied! We proud to announce that
the winner of the 30th Anniversary Logo Design is Arnold Ng!
Congratulations Arnold! He will be receiving a £30 Marks and Spencers'

more of this logo around in time to come.

 6. Freshers' Walkabout

We are looking for enthusiastic seniors who can commit the entire day of *29th
of September* (preferably arriving earlier) and are willing to bring the
freshers around on the walkabout. There is a big role to be filled here as
you will be giving the freshers their first impression of London. Those
with a good knowledge of the places around your previous hall (additional
halls are a bonus) and of course, the various routes to Imperial, would be
preferred. Needless to say, please make sure that you will be in London at
this time!
OGLs are encouraged to sign up as the freshers will already recognise you,

That said, everyone is welcome. (:

 8. SGin(C) 2012
Hi friends,
Singaporeans in Conversation, *SGin(C) 2012*, is an annual event organized
by The United Kingdom Singaporean Students Council (The UKSSC). SGin(C) is
a half-day event that not only attracts Singaporean students from local
universities but also those in the UK, USA and China.
The forum this year is centred on the notion of the Singaporean identity
and what it means to be a Singaporean. We will explore the challenges that
our Singaporean society will be facing in the near future and how this
would shape our identity. This topic is close to the hearts of Singaporean
as we are constantly influenced by both internal and exogenous factors that
shape our identity.
The dialogue will be geared towards exploring the true meaning of being a
Singaporean. This subject seems all the more significant today following
the recent spate of immigrant-related issues, ranging from curry to jobs.
Date: *4 August 2012*
Time: *8.45am-1.00pm*
Guest of Honour: *Chan Chun Sing*, Acting Minister for Community
Development, Youth and Sports.
Venue: To be Advised

                        Hi everyone!
Well it's not really SOS per se, but we do need help! If you are in
Singapore and find yourself zoning out in the summer heat too often with
nothing to do, swatting flies in the monotonous heat itching for some
excitement, volunteer to help out for UKBound today! Whether you have event
management experience or not, this is a great opportunity to learn and make
some friends in the process:) If you are interested, check out some of the
roles you can sign up for below:
*Pageant coordinator (Number of places: 2)
*
Fancy running a pageant? Pretty sure not many of your friends can boast of
such a feat, huh:) as a pageant coordinator, you'll be administrating the
pageant all the way from the selection of contestants to the crowning of
our new mr and ms ukbound! And you'll get that sweet sweet sneak peak at
our glamorous contestants in their gorgeous costumes way before any of us!
If this sounds like your kind of thing, sign up today!
*Sales Team
*
Ever missed an awesome event because you didn't even know it was happening?
Help other unfortunate souls escape that feeling by being a part of the
sales team! As part of this group, you will be moving around and actively
informing our clueless freshers about UKBound, while selling tickets to the
interested parties. A truly invluable role.
*Logistics*
Ninjas, assemble! If you wish not to be in the limelight but wish to be
equally important as everyone else, be part of the logi- Ninjas! After all,
what is an emcee without a mike? Or the contestant without her costume? Or
mr ukbound without his crown? Oh the horror. So join the ninjas! Save
ukbound from abject despair...
*Crowd control/interaction promoters*
Calling all socialites and really cool and funky people! UKBound is ALL
about interaction and mingling, and what better way to contribute by being
part of the audience, jumping into the fray and making friends with tonnes
of people? While you won't be involved in the planning, we will be
enlisting your help as interaction promoters to help us out during the
games to promote participation and to bring strangers together as friends:)
free karma up for grabs, yo. Not to mention the number of friend requests
on Facebook after;)
Help us make UKBound an awesome event for the freshers going to UK next
year! If you want to sign up to be part of this exciting team, or have any
clarifications, you can contact Ting Wei at eventsofficer1(a)ic-Singsoc.net.
See you at UKBound 2012 - Vogue!

                        Updates
Hi everyone,
So. Its summer and most of us are back in sunny Singapore. I hope everyone
is having a good time, wherever you are, waiting in London for the
Olympics, travelling the world, or just chillin' at home.
Let me cut to the chase and bring you the updates!
1. Pre-departure Talk will be held *this Friday* at *The Treasury*. An
amendment has been made to the timing since the previous KnT, sorry for the
error. The talk will now start at *7pm*. The website and Facebook page are
both correct. All are welcome to attend, but remember, freshers first.
2. There's a Team Sojourn briefing also on *Friday* at *Raffles City Tower*,
at *4.15pm*. This is for all OGLs, OGMs and Gamemasters.
3. One can hardly forget that DPM Dialogue is coming up too, on the *25th
of July*. If you want to see Ashley dancing on stage, engage DPM Teo on the
impact of social media, and have a good dinner all in one night, then do
not hesitate to sign up! Okay I'm kidding. Ashley's not dancing, but the
other bits are true.
4. We are looking for people to lead the Freshers' Walkabout on the *29th
of Sept*. Mark out the date and sign up today!
5. Check out the companies UKSSC has engaged for its career series, namely
Lantiq, Exxon Mobil, and Emerson.
6. Finally, there's a new clubbing event organised by the University of
Manchester! Details below.
Have a great summer!
Your faithful secretary,
Gabriel
