 9. SGin(C)
Message from the UKSSC:
Singaporeans in Conversation (SGin(C)) is looking for an organising
committee for the forum this year. With the theme set as "The Singaporean
Identity: Embracing the Inevitable? The Relevance of Who We Are", SGin(C)
is prepared to take the debate over the Singaporean identity to a whole new
level, exploring the vulnerability of our national identity to outside
influence. The recently concluded watershed elections surfaced a gnawing
concern among many Singaporeans - immigration. Consequently, immigration
brings with it an influx of foreign culture, the polemic question is: do we
insist on our own values and cultural norms or do we embrace the
inevitable? Should we integrate the immigrants' culture into ours or should
the onus be on them to integrate into society? Do we adapt or resist? Those
questions will remain unanswered unless you get involved. So please fill in
this application form if you wish to join the organising committee (SGin(C)
Committee Application
Form<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/230ae-1ez6m-km40je62y?u=http%3A%2F%2Fe.group…>

 8. Singapore Memory Project: Singapore Day
Hi everyone!
We have a message from the Singapore Memory Project. If you have any fond
memories from Singapore to share, please feel free to participate!
Hi there!
My name is Grace and I am from the Singapore Memory Project (SMP). We are
participating in Singapore Day (organized by the Overseas Singaporean
Unit), held at Prospect Park, Brooklyn, New York on 14 April 2012, and as
part of the activity, we are looking for memories of Singapore from
overseas Singaporeans to be contributed on our portal –
SingaporeMemory .
sg<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/21uvz-1ez6m-n78fvjdsl?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sin…>
.
The memories we are looking for are along the theme of “How far would you
go to feel at Home?”. Check out our blog
post<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/21uvz-1ez6m-n78fvjdsl?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ire…>
for
some memory triggers! The participant who submitted the most number of
memories will stand to win a US Amazon e-gift voucher*. Simply log on to
the portal to start a memory account and contribute your story! Tag each of
the memory with “Overseas Singaporeans” (very important step!), ‘coz that’s
how we identify the winner. There’s no limit to the number of memories
submitted as each contribution is considered as one entry. They could even
upload photos and videos in their contributions.
The closing date for contest is 20 April, and we will notify the lucky
winner through email. We hope you can help to publicise the above contest
to the members of your student association. Thank you!
*About the Singapore Memory Project*
SMP was started in 2010 to collect, preserve and provide access to memories
and stories related to Singapore. The goal of the project is to engage
individuals, communities, groups or institutions who have formed memories
and content about Singapore and would like to contribute them. We hope
this will build a culture of remembering which will nurture bonding and
rootedness.
