1. Information for Freshers - Spread the love!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
It's the time of the year again... New freshers are coming into
our big Singaporean family over here in Imperial! If you have any
friends who are joining us in the next academic year, please do
refer them to our **main Freshers page** at
http://www.union.ic.ac.uk/osc/singapore/freshers-info/. We have
lovingly compiled the Sotong Guide, various hall accomodations
write-ups and events photographs to provide them with a glimpse
into our life over here in Imperial. Most importantly, inform
them to **register** with us at
http://bit.ly/icss_freshers_2011_signup to allow us to contact
them for subsequent events we have lined up for them to ease
their transition into Imperial College.
In addition, a dedicated **ICSS Freshers 2011 Facebook page** is
already up and running! Do link any freshers you know to to
'like' our page
at http://www.facebook.com/icss.freshers.2011?ref=ts for the
latest updates from ICSS, and to get their queries answered by
helpful and friendly seniors like us. This is also the platform
for them (and all of you as well!) to get to know our latest
members of the ICSS family.
Disseminate the information. Spread the ICSS love. :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------

You do not have to stay for the whole event. Even if you can only

1. ICSS Iron Chef Imperial competition results
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Last Saturday, the Iron Chef Imperial competition was held at the
Senior's Farewell Party. Those who missed the taste of home must
surely have enjoyed trying out the sweet and sour pork, bak chor
mee, roasted chicken wings and kueh serimuka, while those of you
who were craving something sweet should have (and probably did!)
tried out the tiramisu, bread and butter pudding, blondies and
apple crumble.
It was a hard-fought contest, which saw many of the voters
scratching their heads as they tried to figure out which dish to
support. In the end, pursuant to Section 49, Sub-Section 7E,
Paragraph A of the Culinary Competition Act, the seniors have
declared that **Shi Bowen** is the Iron Chef, with his braised
pig trotters just edging out the competition in the number of
votes.

*Bowen, the proud winner of the inaugural ICSS Iron Chef Imperial
competition.*
Thanks goes out to all those who spent their valuable studying
time preparing food or helping out in the Senior's Farewell
Party; it was only through your individual support that made this
SFP such a success!
The Iron Chef Imperial competition will very soon feature a
second episode in our next potluck event. Working titles
currently include Durian Delight, Red Bean Repast and Sweet Corn
Celebration. Suggestions are warmly welcomed and should be
emailed to eventsofficers(a)ic-singsoc.net
<lifesucks(a)takedrugs.com>.
*Are you in it to win it?*

3. Places to let over summer
-----------------------------------------------------------------
**Here's a message from Caroline, a 5th year Medic student:**
Hi! I’ve got a room to let out over summer anytime from *10 Jul
– 24 Sep 2011* (period and duration of stay flexible). The flat
is at *56A Kenway Road (opposite Cromwell Hospital)*, located 3
min away from Earl’s Court tube station, 5 min from Big Sains
and 15 min from school.
As I will be leaving my belongings in my cupboard and wardrobe, I
will only be charging **£95/week** excluding internet and
electricity (compared to £128/wk excluding internet and
electricity I am currently paying). The bed, desk, chairs and
tabletops will be cleared. The room is moderately spacious
(enough space to accommodate your belongings), and you will be
glad to hear that the flat was newly refurbished, hence the nice
kitchen and toilet! Not to mention you’ll get to enjoy the
company of two very lovely, clean and considerate flatmates J.
Email me at cwh06(a)imperial.ac.uk if you are interested and feel
free to arrange a viewing.
**And another message from Huanghuan, a 3rd year Medic student:**

1. Message to all Imperial brothers and sisters!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
A message from the Exco...
Brothers and sisters,
In the midst of our intense mugging sessions, we would just like
to say, **ALL THE BEST** for your upcoming exams!
Fly the Singapore flag high, do us proud, and try not to own the
rest too badly. ;)
*"Hold your ground, hold your ground! Sons of Gondor, of Rohan,
my brothers (and sisters)! I see in your eyes the same fear that
would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of
men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of
fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered
shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not
this day! This day we fight!"
- Aragorn*
Have faith, and here's looking forward to days of endless char
kway teow/ chwee kueh/ chicken rice (your favourite food here)
back in Singapore!
Much love,

3. ICSS Major Event 2012
-----------------------------------------------------------------
How has your mugging been? While trying your best to find your
data sheet among the sea of paper, why don’t you take a break?
Have a kitkat and think about the fun and joy of the **Major
Event** next year!
Next year, we are planning to do a sub-event *in addition* to our
Major Event to generate publicity for ICSS as well as Major Event
itself. Something different, something more creative... Maybe
something like the agar-agar that our seniors did! If you have
any ideas such as constructing our Singapore island with Lego
bricks, breaking the record for the most number of people mugging
at Queen Lawn in the bitter winter, or simply making a gigantic
mosaic out of the different types of coffee we have in Singapore,
please feel free to spam my email inbox.
For those who have enjoyed our major production this year, fret
not - the musical is here to stay. However, we would need your
creative juices to help get our production preparation rolling! I
am looking for **themes for the production**: it could be
anything ranging from family to love to friendship to vengeance.
If you have any themes, ideas or simply suggestions to help us
improve, please feel free to email me at
majorevent(a)ic-singsoc.net.
Happy mugging and may you have the best exam results! :)

4. Buying and selling things?

Or looking for something to buy? Look no further: use the
Imperial Singsoc Facebook group to buy and sell your things.
Simply go to https://www.facebook.com/imperial.singsoc, "Like"
the page and use the discussion forum to sell your things!
*Note: From this term onwards, we would appreciate if members
would use the forum to buy and sell things. We will **not** be
putting any more advertisements for buying and selling through
our newsletter. This is to keep the newsletter concise. *

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Packing to go back home for summer but realised you have too much
stuff lying about? Maybe it's that rice cooker that became

useless textbook you bought cos everyone had one. Maybe it's even
that set of dumb bells that you bought on impulse cos you felt
guilty after eating too much junk food. Whatever the case, we've
all been in that dilemma before and have resorted to throwing
lots of things away because you did not know if anyone wanted to
buy them off you.
Not anymore! Presenting to you...
~~~
**dBay Auctions** (http://dbay.isgreat.org/)
A platform to connect buyers and sellers together!
~~~
It's super *simple to use,* absolutely *free* to advertise, plus
