 1. ICSS Sports Reminder (26 March 2011)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
**Frisbee – 26 March 2011 (Sat) @ Hyde Park from 0900 to 1100**

Just a reminder about our ICSS sports event which would be held
this Saturday, 26 March, in Imperial’s very own ‘backyard’
- Hyde Park! It would be a Frisbee session so for those who are
fans of the game, looking for a chance to work out, or simply
anyone who is interested in playing recreationally… please do
drop by! Some additional things to note:
1. The time of the event has been shifted forward to 9am;
2. A facebook event has been created
(http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/event.php?eid=211220405558065)
so please remember to RSVP.
(Apologies if the event can't be accessed. There seems to be some
problem with the event page every now and then, so just RSVP
whenever possible.);
3. The exact location of the playing ground would be the spot
where the Freshers' Picnic was held, i.e. near the Horse statue.
For those who are attending, please meet straight there at 9am.

Any queries please contact me at 07598797770 or at

See you there!

Cheers,

 2. Seniors' Farewell Party (7 May 2011)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
After several years’ worth of trudging to school, submitting
coursework  and camping overnight in the library, another batch
of Imperial College Singaporeans is about to graduate. In a few
years’ time, it’ll be our turn, but for now, it’s the 2011
Seniors’ Farewell Party!

There’ll be games, prizes and food, so to all seniors
graduating in the year 2011, come on down for one last chance to
meet your juniors, who’ll be following in your footsteps (and
your advice).

This will also be the inaugural Iron Chef Imperial event, so stay
tuned to the weekly Kaya & Toast for more news!

Please RSVP at the Facebook events page:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=161198647270255

**Iron Chef Imperial**

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, elephants and camels; being
an Imperial College student means cooking and living among lots
of guys. Although no prizes will be given out for the latter
condition, the 29th Exco would like to introduce the title of…
Iron Chef Imperial!

(Author’s note: pause for applause)

As the year progresses, we’ve all noticed a definite upward
trend in the food against time graph, except for a few anomalous
data points. In order to recognize this valuable time spent *not*
studying, the title of Iron Chef Imperial will be, at every major
potluck event, handed to whoever gets the most votes from the
guest judges. He (or she, as the case may be) will receive
bragging rights and a brand spanking new chef’s hat with the
ICSS logo.

The Evelyn Gardens halls are currently taking on all-comers in
the culinary arts, and judging by their recent warm-up cookout
held in Bernard Sunley House, the Wilsonites and Princes’
Gardens are in for a tough fight. *Are you chef enough?*

Guidelines:
1. Not more than 3-4 pounds per person for which the portion of
food is provided should be spent on the dish.
2. If the current Iron Chef Imperial does not provide a dish at
the subsequent potluck event (i.e., wishes to retire or has lots
of coursework), the title automatically goes to the person with
the highest votes.
3. All forms of food and cooking will make the chef eligible for
the title of Iron Chef Imperial. This includes roasting,
toasting, baking, braising, steaming, broiling, blanching,
boiling, , double boiling, poaching, pressure cooking,
grilling, steeping, frying, stir frying, deep frying, pan
frying and smoking. No-bake cheesecakes are also allowed.
4. Take-away and subsequent decanting of food from Oriental
Canteen or any other established eatery/restaurant is not
allowed. Violators will be mocked for the rest of their college
and subsequent life.
5. Hiring/persuading/blackmailing of celebrity chefs such as
Gordon Ramsay and Thomas Keller is frowned upon. Not as bad if
they are persuaded to buy ICSS membership.
6. Sabotage* character assassination and smear and slander
campaigns are strictly not allowed. Violators will be made to
**either** do the macarena in the Queen’s Lawn Café during
lunchtime (at full volume, with accompanying soundtrack) **or**
do the intended target’s dishes for a month.
* Sabotage also includes “Sorry, it just totally, completely
slipped out of my hands by accident.”

<http://files.groupspaces.com/icss/files/72549/dXq8ofd4_jaQ4suXvu9p/incredib…>
We are very happy to announce the formation of The Incredibles, a
new group dedicated to helping freshers and seniors alike
throughout the year. The Incredibles will be comprised of the
OGLs, gamemasters, Special Forces, academic representatives,
media masters and sports representatives, all crucial roles that
need talented and keen individuals; just like you!

Because we’d like to find out more about you and your talents,
we will be holding meet and greet sessions on **30th April** and
**14th May**.
Simply click on the following link, fill out the form, and
we’ll get back to you as soon as possible with more details
about where and when to meet us. Each meeting will be about ten
minutes long, and all you’ll need to bring along is honesty and
yourself! Sign up now!
https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dFNTdjYwMDUtd2RIS1FMYnpOTF…
**OGL**
As an OGL, you will take on the mantle of big brother (or sister,
we’re not gender-biased here), friend, cheerleader, mentor, and
clown; sometimes all at once. It’s not the easiest job in the
world, but do it right and you’ll bask in the undying worship
of two dozen freshers. I love the smell of adoration in the
morning.

**Gamemasters**
“Cometh the time, cometh the man.” Be a gamemaster, and
it’ll be also a case of cometh the fun. We need enthusiastic
people with lots of fun game ideas, both during Sojourn 2011 and
throughout the year. Your mission, should you choose to accept
it, will be to shout loudly, have a quick eye for cheaters, and
even quicker reflexes to dodge any retaliatory measures.

**Special Forces**
Can you wake suddenly, think instantly and react immediately? Do
you know a shortcut from Tottenham Court Road to Takashimaya?
Have a class 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 driving license? In the
Special Forces, not only is it about getting things done, it’s
about getting things done swiftly, stealthily, and with no
witnesses.

**Sports Representatives**
If you think you can take on all-comers in a sport (air hockey
also counts), look no further, because being a sports
representative could be where you’ll find your calling. No
matter hardcore, casual or just a downright kinky player, these
representatives will be the leaders in their various sporting
arenas. Javelin Catching is, unfortunately, as yet unrecognized
as an official sport.

**Academic Representatives**
For those who’ve memorized  how much each piece of coursework
contributes to your final grade, this just might be the job for
you. The freshers and juniors will always be looking for advice
on how to deal with schoolwork, so if you secretly dream of being
Uncle Physics, your dreams are just a click away.

**Media Masters**
If you know the difference between an f2.0 and an f1.5 lens, we
want you! If you know which way the video camera should be
pointing and what the big red button does, we also want you! ICSS
is always in need of photographers, videographers and editors.
Whether you be aspiring, professional or just think you can hold
a tripod really steady, hesitate no more and join us!

 1. Message from the ICSS 29th Exco President
-----------------------------------------------------------------
**“If I have seen further it is only by standing on the
shoulders of giants.” -Isaac Newton **
The first response that I would expect would probably be "Wa...
act cheem one, use quote sia." To be honest, being an Imperial
science geek (and proud of it!) and true-blue sua koo
Singaporean, I thought such a quote came from a Spiderman movie.
Looks like I'm actually quite far off.
Then again, as I put my pen to paper (or rather my fingertips to
keyboard) to craft this 'self-declaration', I found that those
were the words which sprang to mind; words which described my
present sentiments. It is both a great honour, and at times a
frightening prospect, to have been appointed the President of
possibly the most established, most professional and most
outstanding overseas Singaporean society in the UK. With such an
overwhelming task, it is easy to be swamped by the workload that
comes in on a day-to-day basis, and even harder to rise above and
look ahead. However, it is only with the efforts of many, which
allow the few of us who make up the current Exco to be able to
see beyond the present hustle and bustle, and to set the course
for our Society. To you, the unsung heroes of ICSS, the silent
'giants' whom we have come to and will continue to depend upon in
the year ahead, thank you. Thank you, for choosing us, for
trusting us, and for placing us upon your shoulders to help
everyone look a little farther in the distance, and see the way
forward on this journey that we all share.
We look forward to serving you as the 29th Exco of the ICSS!

1. Joshua sings. A lot. Especially while preparing dinner, as his
cooking group can testify to. It's not uncommon to hear him
belting out the classics while making pasta, or humming a tune
from Bruno Mars while chopping garlic. Some of his favourite
artistes include Nickelback, Jay Chou and Taylor Swift.
2. Joshua runs. Well, not a lot, unfortunately not as much as he
eats or sings, otherwise he'd look pretty different from his
current physique. Then again, there's something about the quiet
calm of the park, the steady rhythm of footfalls upon the tarmac
that soothes his soul when hitting the running trail.

Eileen is one who is easily excited by small things in life, such
as finding her favourite malted milk biscuits on offer or taking
(what she thinks is) an artistic photo. Contrary to popular
belief, eating is NOT the only thing she does in her free time.
She also sleeps a lot, or at least think about sleeping a lot
because she believes that more sleep will make her grow taller!

"The average woman would rather have beauty than brains, because
the average man can see a lot better than he can think."
Luckily, Shun Ying (or Principal Luar, as she's likely to be
known in about twenty years' time) has both beauty and brains.
She's currently studying first year Biochemistry and spends most
of her free time walking to and from Wilson House. Shun Ying
loves dancing and is a huge fan of the Korean culture. She
secretly harbors dreams of starring in a Korean movie, where all
she does is dance and eat. Shun Ying knows the SNSD Gee dance by
heart, and is most willing to teach anybody who pays in Assa
vouchers.

Being in a constant state of euphoria, Joel can often be spotted
spending most of his time prancing around and giggling in the
JCR. In his spare time, he fantasizes about flying with the
pigeons across Hyde Park from Wilson House. Widely recognized as
tall, dark and handsome (or so he thinks), Joel’s Aeronautical
Engineering friends often view him as the poster boy of their
course. Look out for his multi-faceted talents in the year to
come!

Huang Hong (Events Officer)***
"Friendship is like pissing in your pants; everyone can see it,
but only you can feel the warmth it brings."
Before anyone asks, Huang Hong hasn't pissed in his pants since
he was three, but imagines that it would feel pretty warm. He has
time to carry out such thought exercises because first year
Mechanical Engineering isn't counted, and the walk back to
Bernard Sunley House provides much time for introspection and
penance. Once home, he practices his dance moves and singing
voice in the shower, which is, unfortunately, a little too
cramped for the latter. He would, one day, like to go big-game
hunting to try and bag something to mount over his fireplace
(when he does get a fireplace).

First impression that Qin Zheng gives off: serious, maybe too
serious. But no way! This guy definitely has a friendly side to
him!
Despite how he looks, Qin Zheng can actually play the piano, and
most probably enjoys playing it. (Just look at him hog the
keyboard all day long during major event.) He has studied
Japanese and did some translation projects when he was younger.
He almost left for Japan to further his undergraduate studies,
but ended up choosing Imperial (it’s a long story). He likes to
exercise and with that said, he will be finally heading for the
gym very soon after a few months hiatus, because of a very long
ban (reason being… … another long story, ask him yourself).
He loves to listen to people and enjoys long chats. So do not
hesitate to speak to him, whether it is just a whine about life,
a problem you are facing, or just purely for a light-hearted
chat. By approaching him, you would have made his day!

>From his past experiences as a competitive athlete, gymnastics

how into sports Yuxiang was. Well, he still is, despite not as
physically active since a “career-ending” injury.
Nonetheless, he’s back into the sporting scene as your friendly
and enthusiastic Sports Officer! Don’t doubt his passion for
any sports, as he’s always keen to try nearly any sports
regardless of how unusual it may be!

Singapore!

 3. Thorpe Park Trip (RSVP by 20th March 2011)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
*Message from Fong:*

Hello everybody! Easter holidays are right around the corner, and
it's such a pity we're all going to be cooped up in halls,
studying our butts off. Spring's here, and ohmygosh there're
birds chirping outside my window.
To prevent us from blowing a fuse by studying too hard, I was
thinking of making a trip to Thorpe Park. A relaxing day spent on
the roller coasters should be enough to shake off any exam blues
(at least temporarily). I'm looking for more people to join us,
because more people means bigger discounts and easier transport
arrangements, and come on, who doesn't love discounts?
Here are the details:
**Date: 14th April 2011 (Thurs)**
**Time: 0830 - 1830 hours**
**Venue: Thorpe Park**
**Price: 36 pounds**
The price currently stands at 36 pounds, 24 for the entry ticket
and 12 for the transport to and from Thorpe Park. The more people
we get, the lower the price this will be, so help me spread the
word and get as many of your friends as possible to join us!
Please contact our dear events officer, Qin Zheng at
eventsofficer2(a)ic-singsoc.net, if you'd like to sign up for this
excursion. Places are limited and given out on a
first-come-first-served basis, though, so be quick! All details
will be confirmed by Sunday, 20th March.
For those who don't know what Thorpe Park is all about, here're
some details about the best rides:
**Stealth**
Stealth is the fastest-accelerating roller coaster in Europe,
bringing you from a standstill to 80 miles per hour in a piddling
1.8 seconds. For all you engineers out there who deal with the
metric system, that's an acceleration of 19.8 meters per second
squared. Much harder than it first seems to keep a zen expression
on your face when you blast off, even on your subsequent
(consecutive) rides.
**Colossus**
If you think you can hold your stomach contents down or you're
just a glutton for punishment, Colossus may be the ride for you.
With a gut-churning 10 loops over it's length, we'll not be
giving out any prizes to those who go on it after gorging on the
park's hotdogs. All the same, much respect if you do it.
**X:\ No Way Out**
One of those who gets really scared after seeing the
loop-the-loops and heart-stopping drops? No worries, because this
may be the ride for you! In X:\ No Way Out, you go backwards. In
absolute darkness. So there's none of that debilitating,
knee-buckling anticipation-fear.
**Saw: The Ride**
If you've ever wondered what it's like to be at the mercy of
Jigsaw himself, you can get a taste at Saw: The Ride. Even the
queue up to the ride is scary, so you know you'll be getting your
money's worth of adrenaline rush. Holding the world record for
the steepest free-fall drop, it'll be a challenge not to smell
the fear in the air as you make your way around this ride. For
those who just really, really like scaring themselves, a Saw
museum is just next door.

*Wenjun, President 28th EXCO*
Dear beloved members of the ICSS,
The reign of the 28th ICSS Executive Committee finally came to a
memorable end on the 9th of March 2011. Personally, the feeling
was bittersweet. It was bitter because the journey has been such
an amazing one but as always, good things will have to come to an
end. It was sweet as I watched on the passionate wave of new
blood take up the positions, raring to invigorate the society and
see to the continuity of the ICSS tradition and legacy.
There are countless people who have added meaning and colour to
my entire experience as a whole. I find it extremely hard to put
pen these words of thanks down, for words simply pale in
comparison to magnitude of heartfelt gratitude and emotions that
I am feeling now. However, I would still like to thank a number
in passing:
* To the Seniors, your care and concern simply portrays the
love and undying passion for the long-standing tradition. Your
guidance and maturity is unparalleled and something we truly
treasure. For the graduating Seniors, I shudder at the loss that
the ICSS will suffer upon your graduation. You will be sorely
missed.
* To my Batchmates, you have provided unwavering support for
the 28th Executive Committee. Your spirit and heart for the ICSS
was never in doubt, and each one of you have contributed
significantly to what we have built up over the past year. A
special thank you goes out to my dear ex-Weeks Hall
hallmates/current housemates (Gladys, Gerbert, Qihan, James,
Karen and Shin) for standing by me all this while. I am indeed
blessed to have such a great bunch of friends. May our strength
and unity as the 28th Batch continue to live on forever!
* To my Executive Committee, there is nothing more that a
President could have asked for.  You guys have been an absolute
joy to work with! Our journey has been one of ups and downs but
we have stuck together firmly as a team. Thank you for the
beautiful memories that I will never forget!
As my final words, I would like to bring up one last challenge to
the Freshers of ICSS. Now is the time for your batch to step up
and take over the baton. The marathon will be a long and arduous
one but it is with hope and faith that all of you will be able to
stick close together just as the 28th Batch has done, sustaining
that burning desire and passion for the society. The Seniors will
be here to guide you, but the Society will be significantly what
the 29th Batch of people make it to be. Do us proud and fly the
ICSS flag high!
Yours truly,
Wenjun
President (NS)
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.

*Bryan, Vice-President 28th EXCO*
Dear fellow members of the ICSS,
It has been an amazing year for me in the Exco. Over the past
year, we organised countless events, from Seniors’ Farewell
Party to Sojourn, right up to Ski Trip and Major Event. Without
the participation and support of every one of you, none of these
events would have been possible, let alone a success. Thank you.
When I first ran for my position, I had ambitious plans and
creative ways of bringing everyone together. I had my ideas on
how everything could have been improved, how we could achieve
what we set out to achieve. Yet, as time passed, I realised that
successful events required more than just excellent planning.
They require people getting themselves involved. They require a
sincere organising committee. Most importantly, they require
people to believe in the society.
Singsoc is a society run by friends, for friends. Being an Exco
member means committing yourself to organising events for the
people that matter to you. Being a Singsoc member means you are
part of a society that you care for, which cares for you as well.
This is what distinguishes us, what we are about. Nothing in our
constitution can ever enforce this special identity on us. Our
culture and tradition can only be passed on through actions, from
one batch to the next. Like how our seniors have taken care of
us, we have taken care of our juniors. Now, it is their time to
step up and pass this spirit on. I have every confidence that the
29th Exco and their batch-mates are ready to rise to the occasion
and do their part for their juniors.
Fellow seniors (and seniors-to-be), the journey the 29th Exco
is about to embark will be a difficult one, involving much time,
effort and sacrifice. It is my hope that we give our utmost
support to them during their term. Turning up at their events,
helping them out wherever you can or even giving a word of
encouragement will go a long way in making them feel that what
they are doing is worth the while. After all, the sacrifices they
will make are all for us and our society.
Thank you 28th Exco for being in this journey with me over the
past year. It was difficult, but fulfilling. The memories we
shared will stay with me for a long time to come. This is
probably the last time I will be saying this to all of you, as
members of the Exco. Good job guys, we have met our objective.
Bryan
Fellow Singsoc Member
P.S. Good luck Eileen!

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.

*Yu Leng, Secretary 28th EXCO*

It has been one amazing year that has passed by far too quickly.
I recall drafting my first Esplanade (the name of our previous
newsletter) – and in a blink of an eye, this 38th issue of
Singsoc newsletter sent by me now marks the end of this
remarkable journey for me as your ICSS Secretary. While there
will be so much to be missed as our 28th EXCO moves on to another
phase of our university lives,  the wonderful memories and
friends that I have made over the year will last me a long way
through.
Thank you to everyone who has crossed my path in some way or
other during my term. My time in the EXCO would not have been
complete without you people who truly make Singsoc what it is
meant to be – a bonded society where we can call a home away
from home. Thank you especially to the other 7 members of the
28th EXCO – Wenjun, Bryan, Hao Yi, Sid, Shuren, Hong Yi and Jun
Ying. Though we faced countless difficulties along the way,
things did work out in the end and that would not have been
possible without all your dedication and hard work. It has been
truly such a memorable time working with you guys and I’ve
certainly learnt a lot from all of you. Thank you, as well, to my
coursemates and housemates for your presence at and participation
in Singsoc activities, and for your support, care and concern
for me.
As the 29th EXCO takes over and strives towards greater
aspirations, I hope that all of you will continue to support
Singsoc and its activities. And to the 29th EXCO, I wish you all
the best in your upcoming journey and I look forward to an
exciting year ahead for Singsoc under your leadership.
Yu Leng

*Hao Yi, Treasurer 28th EXCO*
Time flies. It seemed like just yesterday that the eight of us
sat in the KFC off Gloucester, eager to make ICSS as much a home
for the incoming year as it was for us. Now, twelve months on,
the time has come for a new group of nine to step up and for us
old folks to say our goodbyes. At this juncture, I would thus
like to express my heartfelt thanks to the people who have made
the past year a journey truly like none other.
* To my beloved fellow Exco:  A big thank you for all the
wonderful and often crazy memories of ICSS. The things that we
did together were simply awesome. From Bryan’s delectable poses
at the pageant training sessions to Sid’s stellar driving
skills, I will definitely cherish these memories for many years
to come. You guys were honestly the best teammates that one could
ask for and I sincerely hope that we’ll get the chance to work
together again. (How about organizing private clubbing events
during summer? =p)
* To the dance team: Major Event just wouldn’t have been the
same without each and every one of you. Thank you for filling my
evenings with endless laughs and chatter, for making me feel at
home with you lot even though I’m such an old and stiff fellow
and for being such good friends to me throughout the three
arduous months of rehearsals. I will most certainly remember the
times we spent together in the Chem Café Area (especially that
one time where I got my manly scar) and wish you guys the very
best in all your future endeavors.
* To my housemates: A sincere thank you for all the moral
support and for being so understanding throughout this term. It
really is heartwarming to have a family to go home to after a
long day (P.S. I promise to make up for all the hasty meals that
I cooked before rushing off to practice).
* Last but not least, I would like to express my gratitude to
all the seniors who have helped the 28ths in one way or
another.  Thank you for stepping forward to be OGLs, game
masters, scriptwriters and even dancers when it was never an
obligation and for supporting us all the way to the end. You guys
were truly pillars of ICSS.
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.

*Siddhartha, Events Officer 28th EXCO*
Right, so the AGM just came to a successful close, with the (very
capable) 29th Executive Committee getting elected, and now,
I’ve been allowed some space to give some final words to the
society. Well, I wish I had some words of wisdom or some
enlightenment message to share, but since I don’t, I will
instead like to leave a (rather long) thank you message:

Thank you, first and foremost, to all my other 28th Executive
Committee colleagues; i.e., Wenjun, Bryan, Yuleng, (humsup)
Haoyi, Shuren, Hongyi & Junying. It’s difficult to describe
truly in words how much fun and memorable it was to work
alongside each and every one of you. Thank you to all the seniors
from the 27th & 26th executive committees for their wonderful
advice & guidance. Would like to give a special mention to
Kailong & Anne, who at times went the extra mile to help me out.
Thank you to all the wonderful batchmates who helped and
supported our events. The wonderful OGLs, gamemasters, QRF,
subject reps, etc etc. Special mention to David Lee, who has
helped me a lot on more than one occasion. Thank you to all the
freshers that I have met in the last year, and for putting up the
wonderful Production 2011. Thank you to the music team for making
my job SO much easier and SO much fun. Thank you to all my
friends who listened to my rants, or consoled me when I was down,
or covered for me when I was not around (lab buddy, jx!). Thank
you to my housemates for being around to help and support. And
just to make sure I have not missed out anyone, thank you to ALL
my friends for supporting/helping/guiding me in any big or small
way. Thank you.
Now that I’ve reduced everyone to tears, including myself, just
would like to wish the new committee all the best, plenty of
success and a good year ahead. Please do lend them your support,
and I’m sure ICSS will reach new heights very soon!
sid.
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.

*Shuren, Events Officer 28th EXCO*
Hi everybody!
One year passed very quickly and I have already handed over my
position of Events Officer of ICSS to my successor. The past year
has been very eventful. The numerous events that I have planned
brought me great memories and I think that will not be so if not
for the active participation of the members. From Sojourn to
Major Event, I got to know many of you and I sincerely hope that
you guys enjoyed the events.
As I step down, I want to express my utmost appreciation to all
those who have participated in our events or contribute in one
way or another to ICSS, without whom it would not be possible for
us to have successful events, one after another.
Last but not least, do give the new EXCO your support as they
begin their journey to fly the flag of ICSS.
THANK YOU!
Shuren!
P.S. Please remember to say Hi! to me if you see me on the
streets.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.

*Hong Yi, Sports Officer 28th EXCO*
It has been a great year for ICSS Sports. Without the
participation of all of you, this would have been impossible. I
hope all of you enjoyed the sporting events throughout the year
and please continue to support the new sports officer, Yu Xiang,
in all the sporting events. Also, I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all my sports captains, Derek, Cherie,
Shawn, Jun Xiang, Don, Jia Jia and Yong Feng, for all the support
they had given me throughout the year. You guys are really
wonderful!
Let the ICSS tradition of bonding Singaporeans together through
sweat continues in the years to come.
All the best,
Hong Yi
28th ICSS Exco - Sports Officer
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.

*Jun Ying, Liaisons Officer 28th EXCO*
It has been a great honour to serve the Singaporean community in
my capacity as the Liaisons Officer for the duration of my term.
While it is with a tinge of can't-let-it-go feeling, I am
entirely confident that the newly-elected 29th EXCO will bring
our society to new heights, to create even more awesome events,
to foster bonds, to save freshers from the miasma of necessary of
immigration paperwork and the uncertainties of living abroad, and
most importantly, to be a home away from home. The unprecedented
formulation of the Major Events Officer will have profound
effects on the work dynamic but I have faith that the EXCO will
be able to take on the burden and the aspirations that my EXCO
and the rest of the society have put on them.
To my protege, feel free to seek advice from any of your entire
Liaisons family line of enthusiastic seniors. We will always be
around to answer the call and to help in the event of a
catastrophic server crash (P.S. always back up with an SQL
dump before you try something. I learnt this the hard way MANY
times)
To the rest of the society, I hope you all will support the EXCO
in everything they do, and make your feedback known (if you
disagree or agree or have better ideas). We are Singaporeans but
cannot complain all the time mah!
To the rest of my EXCO, it has been a terrific journey and I am
thankful for being part of it.
Jun Ying

                        *Dear beloved members of ICSS,*
As the ICSS calendar draws to an eventful end, the time has finally arrived
for a changeover of leadership. The month of March marks the end of the term
for the current batch of seasoned office holders. The Annual General
Elections is an extremely crucial event for the society, with the prospect
of a new wave of fresh blood looking to add renewed vigour to the ICSS.
On behalf of the 28th ICSS Executive Committee, I would like to extend a
warm invitation to all members of the society to the Annual General Meeting.
This is effectively the last event under the charge of the 28s. If you had
enjoyed yourself at any event, any gathering or at any point of time during
our term, please do come down for the AGM to show your support for the 28s.
We will be greatly touched by your presence, and will certainly be honoured
to have you with us as we see out this last stretch.
More importantly, we are about to witness the election of the 29th ICSS
Executive Committee. As members of the Society, we are all entitled to
decide on who we want as the people to steer the ICSS to greater heights
over the impending term. In addition, the 28th ICSS Executive Committee has
made recommendations for amendments in the Constitution. If ratified, it
will bring a change in the form of a new Executive Committee role. Hence, I
strongly encourage every member to exercise his or her vote with careful
consideration. Every single vote will have a far-reaching impact on the
direction of the ICSS over the next year.

 3. *Events Office (Major Event)*
This year, the Executive Committee is proposing the extension to Article 18
to introduce the role of Events Officer (Major Event). After much
deliberation and a thorough review of the term by the 28s, we have come to
this resolution of introducing the 9th Executive Committee member.
                    I. Motivation
a. Major Event, being the key highlight of the year, is not undertaken
or specifically assigned to any Executives within the Committee.
b. With the increasing number of events added on to the ICSS calendar,
attention and focus for Major Event is increasing being shared and reduced
to an extent.
c. In the recent years, Major Event has taken on somewhat a standard
form, lacking freshness and vigour.
d. In addition, Major Event currently only involves approximately 25%
of the entire Singaporean population at Imperial College London.
                  II. Resolution
a. In electing the Events Officer (Major Event) into the Executive
Committee, he will undertake the entire process from strategizing, planning,
forming, coordinating to executing of Major Event.
b. With a specialized member amongst the Executives focused with the
task, Major Event will receive sufficient attention that it deserves as the
key highlight of the year.
c. It is with hope that with the additional attention given to Major
Event for the entire process, subsequent Major Events will witness an
increase in involvement, scale, quality and the concomitant desirable
effects it brings to the society.
III. Job scope of Major Event Chair
Please refer earlier part of AGENDA FOR THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, under
Section 2 Part IV on the proposed Extension of Article 18.

*ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING*
In this segment, we have compiled a few of the most frequently asked
questions about the Annual General Meeting.
1. How will the extension of Article 18 (Events Officer (Major Event))
affect me if ratified?
In the event of a ratification of this extension, the 29th ICSS Executive
Committee will have a new make-up of 9 members. If you are interested to run
this new role of Events Office (Major Event) and have further questions,
please feel free to email president(a)ic-singsoc.net to find out more!
2. What do I need to do before attending AGM?
For members, we will be providing Lunch and Dinner at the meeting. In order
to facilitate the ordering of the correct quantity of food, we require all
members to RSVP to our Facebook Events page
(http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=115185235224801&index=1)
3. What is a manifesto and what do I have to do with it?
If you are deciding to run for Office during the General Elections, you are
required to submit a manifesto to our Liaisons Officer. This manifesto will
be placed on the ICSS website for the members’ perusal. It will serve the
purpose of introducing yourself to the society, and can be viewed as a form
of campaigning. For more information, please visit tab under General
Elections on the ICSS website.
(
http://www.union.ic.ac.uk/osc/singapore/general-elections-2011/manifesto-gu…)
4. I want to know more about what being an Executive Committee member
entails. How do I go about finding out more?
Please feel free to approach any of the current Office Holders and they will
gladly share with you their experience and more about their respective
positions. If you are undecided on a position in particular, every member of
the 28th ICSS Executive Committee has done up a short write-up on their
roles, responsibilities and experience for your perusal. This information is
available under the General Elections tab on the ICSS website.
5. I would like to read up on the ICSS Constitution. Where can I find
it?
You may find a copy of the ICSS Constitution under the General Elections tab
on the ICSS Website
 (
http://www.union.ic.ac.uk/osc/singapore/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/ICSS_Con…
)
*CLOSING REMARKS*
It is my wish that every single member will turn up for the Annual General
Meeting. This event is of great significance for the outgoing and incoming
Office Holders. More importantly, proposed amendments to the ICSS
Constitution will also be ratified during the meeting. As such, it will be
crucial that every member be present to exercise his/her say in matters.
Lastly, I would like to strongly urge all members to think about the
possibility of running for Office. It is only with continuity and succession
in power that the Society’s tradition and legacy may live on. To all the
passionate members out there, rise up to the challenge and be part of the
29s.
Hope too see you at the Annual General Meeting!
Yours truly,
Wenjun
