 2. ICSS Spring Trip (05/03/11) - SPACES RUNNING OUT FAST!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear ICSS members!
Winter is subsiding, signs of spring (i.e WARM weather) are
starting to show & Production 2011 is about to come to a grand
closure. And what better to celebrate than to have a day out with
the amazing friends we have made in the past few months!

The ICSS Spring trip is here and the tentative details are as
follows:
Date: 5th March, 2011 (Saturday), 8am - 6pm
Destination: South-end on Sea!
Cost: £10 (to cover the coach hire cost only!)

All members of the Production Team are highly encouraged to join
us in a day of fun out of London as we will be subsidizing the
full cost for the Production Team only as a gesture of
appreciation for their time and hard work over the past 3 months.

Do note that the seats are limited and priority will go to
members of the Production Team.

**About the trip**
South-end on Sea is a small seaside resort town in east England,
and it's best known for its pleasure pier, which also happens to
be the world's longest. It also has a world class amusement park,
called Adventure Island, which has over 50 rides and has free
entry (you have to pay only for the rides!). Besides the main
tourist attractions, South-end on sea is a lovely town to
explore, and if weather permits, we will also have a
society-level picnic in one of their lovely parks!
Just to get a clear idea on who is coming for this trip, please
e-mail your interest to icss.events(a)gmail.com now!  This

 3. Upcoming Seminar -- SINGAPORE GENERAL ELECTIONS 2011 - 2012: Watershed or Watertight? (03/03/11)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
LSE IDEAS Southeast Asia Programme is pleased to invite you to
our upcoming seminar on:

**SINGAPORE GENERAL ELECTIONS 2011 - 2012: Watershed or
Watertight?**

Thursday, 3 March 2011, 6:30pm

London School of Economics
Columbia House, Level 2, Room B.212

Speaker: Mustafa Izzuddin
Chair: Dr Munir Majid

It is not uncommon to read about the lack of interest both within
and outside of Singapore when the country holds its General
Elections because the electoral outcome is a predictable one with
the incumbent political party having always garnered an
overwhelming majority in parliament since the country's
independence. Yet, there appears to be much abuzz within the
Singapore political landscape leading up to the General Elections
slated to be some time in 2011.

As a scholar who has closely followed the Singapore political
scene for many years with the additional advantage of being
involved in grassroots activities for about a decade, Mustafa
seeks to provide a balanced assessment by discussing some of the
salient themes and issues that are of concern to the electorate,
and some of the main transfigurations that have taken root within
the political landscape in Singapore.

Quite simply, what can we expect from the 2011-2012 Singapore
General Elections? Would the elections be a watershed that ushers
in some form of political tsunami, or watertight, that is, more
of the same, and so there was much ado about nothing? Mustafa
makes the initial assessment that the coming elections is likely
to be a semi-watershed consistent with a changed political
landscape that bears greater fruit for the opposition than in the
past, but not a political tsunami that drastically reduces the
incumbent's overwhelming majority in parliament.

Mustafa Izzuddin is completing his doctorate in International
Relations at the LSE. His thesis studies the evolution of
Malaysia-China relations between 1974 and 2009 from a
neoclassical realist perspective. Mustafa has received several
accolades for his contributions to the non-governmental sector in
Singapore.

This event is free and open to all. Seats are allocated on a
first come first served basis.

LSE IDEAS is a centre for the study of international affairs,
diplomacy and grand strategy. Its mission is to use LSE's
intellectual resources to help train skilled and open-minded
leaders and to study international affairs through world-class
scholarship and engagement with practitioners and
decision-makers.

 4. Raffles Night 2011 (12/03/11)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Rafflesians,

**Raffles Night 2011** is finally HERE!
Raffles Night is *the* gathering for Rafflesians in the UK. It is
a proud annual tradition, and has always been a good opportunity
to link up with schoolmates, and relive fond memories of those
good old days. Although it was last held in October 2008, this
year, we are bringing it back with the theme of ‘Renaissance
Raffles’, and a funky-chic dress code that is entitled 'green,
black, white'. Bizarrely familiar, 'innit? Our unique advantage
here in the UK is that we can now meet up in this eccentric place
that Sir Stamford Raffles called home, and re-kindle, somewhat,
our colonial heritage.
Raffles Night is a formal dinner banquet, interspersed with
sensational in-house performances and delightful table games.
Mainly, our object is just to relax and have fun together. For
Rafflesians in the UK represent a rare breed of the new and old,
the East and the West. Able to speak in heavily-accented Queen's
English, but instantly switch to colloquial Singlish within a
breath. Willing to dress up fashionably for formal events, but
equally prone to making funny faces with '自拍' shots.

So *carpe diem* and mark out the night of 12th March 2011 on your
calendar now! Ticket prices start from £22 for bookings made in
'a table of 10', £24 for individual tickets to Raffles alumni,
and £26 for individual tickets to non-alumni. For ticketing and
payment procedures, please refer to the attached word document.
We look forward to your enchanting presence!

Best wishes,
Jason, on behalf of the Raffles Night Committee 2011

 1. ICSS Major Event - '(in)sanity'
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Keeping up with the tradition over the recent years, the ICSS
will be proudly presenting a musical as this year's Major Event,
entitled '(in)sanity'. With 100% original script, dances and
musical arrangements. and over 70 members giving their all to the
Production Team this year, Major Event promises to be of the
finest quality that is not to be missed!

*Synopsis*

*This year, the story is set in an asylum about a man who is
plagued with a bizarre medical condition caused by an accident.
This condition renders the man incapable of retaining any form of
memory over a reasonable period of time.  In his desperation to
gain enlightenment on his background, the man engages in
interactions with 5 of his fellow patients.*

*In his state of loss, the man gets sucked into the different
realms of the 5 individuals. With each passing day, the man
perseveres in his search of the coveted notebook which was
presented to him by the doctor to aid him in recalling the truth.
To him, the notebook was the only glimmer of hope in his
seemingly endless pursuit of answers.*

*The 5 worlds intertwine in what is a complex web of different
perspectives with which the characters view the world. The story
will be played out in 5 Acts, each interjected with dances and
music, with every performance shedding light to the conclusion.
The heaviness of the theme will be finely balanced off with
comical relief, making the play a light-hearted one which will be
suitable for all ages and nationalities. The content will be
topped off with a tinge of Singaporean flavour, with compelling
portrayals of snippets to life in Singapore, played out through
the characters on stage.*

*In the end, will the man find his true identity? Will he succeed
in restoring his memory and sanity? Or will he be lost forever in
one of these make-believe worlds? In this intriguing adventure,
how will the man eventually cope with the cross between
imagination and reality? The story unfolds on the 19th of
February 2011…*
