CAVING: 7-8th Nov WEEKEND TRIP TO YORKSHIRE (ROPEWORK!) | Photos | Tues 4th Nov 7:30pm Union Meet | Wed 5th Nov Noon Tree Train
Dear Cavers, * FIRST ROPE TRIP OF THE YEAR! 7-8th November - Yorkshire* Bounce your way down the tallest UG waterfall in the country (105m) to explore the closest you will ever come to an underground cathedral, crypt included. And of course, being so close to 5th Nov, fireworks and fire will be an integral part of the weekend! This photo is by us and of us standing there in the big chamber last July. The white lines are sunlight streaming through the waterfalls from the surface above. Anyone got a frisbee? The high-adrenaline buzz of abseil and swinging effortlessly through black space is what keeps us cavers caving, and we're organising it so that all you novices out there can come and enjoy a taste of this high octane pleasure. Usual excellent accommodation (who would camp in the UK in November?!) at the NPC with COAL fire & much foodage to make up the calories lost in the field. Standard ten squid deposit, come along to *Tues Meet* (*7:30pm Union Bar*) / *Wed* (*Tree Training*) to reserve your place, first come first served, yadda yadda. Actually, more seriously - we're full up, but our members are so nice that we can make room for a couple more keen freshers... Come out of the sidelines and get in touch! * Mendips* (this weekend just gone) Great set of wet 'n' wild trips this weekend. 1) Went straight to the cave on Friday evening (1am) and caved through the night to avoid the crowds in Swildons (Hallo'ween party with real bats...). 2) Crawled out of bed midday on Saturday before zooming off for more underground rivers in Charterhouse. 3) Absolutely fantastic meal in the super comfy Belfry hut [avoiding the rainstorm outside and enjoying the cherry-red pot-boiler fire], before getting the bare necessary of shut-eye and then taking on some sump free-diving on Sunday to achieve the Black Hole. Come along on Tues to hear the wild-eyed stories of underwater sump free diving. * Some Photos:* Facebook <http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=100195&id=222400238&saved=> http://www.union.ic.ac.uk/rcc/caving/photo_archive/trips/2008-10-31%20-%20me... *Weekly Meet (TUESDAY): *We'll be washing kit in stores from *6pm* on Tuesday for those who were on the trip at the weekend, before moving onto the union bar for *7:30pm* ish. * Tree Training (WEDNESDAY): *From *Noon *(now that there's less light). Meet in *stores at 12*, or come straight to *Princes' Gardens* thereafter. You need SRT skills learned in the skills before heading off to Yorkshire/Derbyshire! If our times are not convenient, email and we can arrange some 1-on-1 teaching. *Last of the Autumn Meets Calendar:* *Nov 21-23rd* - CHECC, Derbyshire *Dec 5-7th* - Yorkshire, BPF And in case you missed them here are the photos from the first trip of the year to Wales: http://www.union.ic.ac.uk/rcc/caving/photo_archive/trips/2008-10-17%20-%20wa...
