It was great to see so many keen faces at tree training yesterday. Our first trip is now full, so please do not sign up anymore. We have sent a separate email to those who have signed up. Don’t worry if you didn’t get a spot on our first trip, we have many more trips lined up. Our next trip is also to Wales on 29/10 – 31/10 and a sign up link will be emailed out two weeks before the trip. You will only need to buy the trip fee once we have confirmed your spot on the trip. Some quick advice if you would like to come to tree training: wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a little muddy. Hope to see you at the union bar next Tuesday and at tree training next Wednesday. Yours till welcome week is not pure chaos, Ana (ICCC President) From: Imperial College Caving Club <ic.caving@gmail.com> Date: Tuesday, 5 October 2021 at 17:40 To: icu-caving-announce@imperial.ac.uk <icu-caving-announce@imperial.ac.uk>, 'Una Barker' via Imperial College Caving Club - Club List <iccc-club@googlegroups.com> Subject: Welcome to Caving !!! Hello Everyone, Welcome (back) to Caving! We are very excited to present lots of different activities for all ranges of abilities. We generally organise a number of Weekend Trips to various caving regions in the UK, a Winter Tour to Yorkshire, Easter Tour to a destination in Europe, and our Summer Expedition to the Slovenian Alps to discover completely unexplored caves. On top of that we have rope access training and various socials. _________________________________________________________________________________________ TLDR: Join us at the pub tonight!!! ; Tree training happens every Wednesday ; First weekend trip coming up soon. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Caving Pub When: every Tuesday from around 18:00 until pubs close Where: FiveSixEight / Union Bar (in Beit Quad) Membership: you do not need membership to join us for a drink and a chat This is our weekly social activity. We sit in one of the campus pubs to eat dinner and have a few drinks. (Don’t worry if you don’t drink alcohol, some of us don’t either and we can confirm that the union has some acceptable non-alcoholic drinks.) This is a great opportunity to meet us and ask any questions about the club or caving in general. Look out for a caving helmet to find us! Tree Training When: every Wednesday, 13:00 – 17:00 Where: Prince’s Garden (outside Ethos) Price: FREE Membership: you do not need membership to join tree training Here we will show you a rope technique for caving called SRT (single rope technique). Due to a lack of caves in London, we practice our rope skills on a tree. So look out for a bunch of people climbing a tree in Prince’s Garden. There is no need to sign up, just show up at any time between 13:00 and 17:00 for however long you want to stay. Tree training will happen every Wednesday in Autumn Term (from now until the end of December). If you already know SRT, we will also rig some more complicated challenges to make sure that everyone has a fun time. You will need to know SRT if you want to come to one of our later trips to Yorkshire. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Weekend Trip to Wales !!! When: Friday 15/10/2021 at 17:00 to Sunday 17/10/2021 at 23:45 Where: South Wales Price: £15.00 if this is your first trip! (£45.00 if you have been caving with us before) Membership: you need membership to join weekend trips (£30.00) (membership lasts the entire year) SIGN UP HERE: https://forms.office.com/r/zS8eaa3RSm For our first trip of the year we are heading to South Wales to explore a number of different caves. These caves are horizontal (no rope needed) so that everyone can join. This trip is especially aimed at newcomers to caving! So do not worry if you have never set foot in a cave, this is the right trip for you. You also do not need to know any rope skills yet. Before going on this amazing trip, we will meet on Tuesday (12/10/21) at 17:00 to pack some kit. You do not need any equipment of your own, we will provide everything you could possibly need in a cave. We do recommend to bring your own sleeping bag if you have one, but we will of course give your one if you need it. We will set off on Friday evening and return on Sunday evening. On Friday we will leave from outside Beit Halls. Because of covid (☹) we ask you to please show us a recent negative covid test before travelling (a photo of a lateral flow test is enough, but a PCR from imperial is even better). We will stop at a supermarket on the way to buy all the food we need for the weekend and also for you to buy your own dinner/snacks for Friday. Except for Friday’s and Sunday’s dinner, we cook all of our food together which is included in the trip cost. Accommodation, transport and all equipment are also covered by the trip cost! On Saturday we will have a fairly long caving trip if you feel like it, but sometimes a few of us decide to have a nice day on the surface instead. On Sunday we will have a shorter caving trip before driving back to London. We usually get back around midnight. South Wales is a great caving area with lots of beautiful caves of all sizes. Whether you want to see pretty stalactites, want to walk through a meandering streamway, or see huge chambers, this is the right place for you. For those particularly keen on a challenge, a crawl through tight muddy passages can of course also be arranged (You can see some amazing pictures here<https://www.union.ic.ac.uk/rcc/caving/>!). This trip will be quite popular so do not worry if you don’t get a spot, there’ll be many more in the future! Future Trip Dates Date Destination Details 29/10 – 31/10 Wales Another Freshers Trip + Halloween Pumpkin Carving 05/11 – 07/11 Mendips Bonfire Night Trip (also suitable for beginners) 19/11 – 21/11 Yorkshire SRT required 26/11 – 28/11 CHECC (Yorkshire) University club meet up (generally not much caving occurs) _________________________________________________________________________________________ Look out for more email about upcoming socials. This will include film nights where we watch ridiculous caving films, trips to climbing walls, cocktail nights, pancake events, a talk about our expedition, and many more. Have a look at our website<https://www.union.ic.ac.uk/rcc/caving/> to find out more about all of our caving trips. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Congrats on making it to the end of this very long email. We hope to see you at one of our many events soon! Yours till it doesn’t rain at Freshers Fair, Imperial College Caving Club
