This is the Sign up email for our second SRT trip of the year, so reply now to get your space! We will be visiting the Yorkshire Dales to see some of Britain's best and most classic caves! And of course staying at everyone's favorite caving hut: The NPC (Northern Pennine Club!), *When:* Friday 29/11 - Sunday 01/12 *Where: *The Yorkshire Dales (The NPC <https://northernpennineclub.org.uk/>) *Membership:* you need membership to join weekend trips which is £30.00 (membership lasts the entire year) Price:* O**nly £35* if this is your first trip! Or £45 for returning members *You Need: *No Experience - No Equipment - *Buuuut... SRT is required!* ***************************************************************** *What is SRT? *SRT stands for 'Single Rope Technique', and it's the method we use to visit vertical cave systems. You can *learn SRT for free!* Tree Training runs every Wednesday during the first term between 1 and 5pm in Princes gardens. Tree Training requires no sign up, and you can come by anytime, but we recommend 1-2 sessions to learn everything! Once again, these sessions are free and need no sign up, but the union does now ask that you buy membership (which you know you want to...), so you can do that here: Caving Products | Imperial College Union <https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/shop/student-groups/371> *Also, Bonus Skills! * Already learnt the SRT basics? Had a lot of fun and want to do more? Then good news! We will be setting up some extra challenges! New and exciting twists on current skills, and new skills for you to try around with. ***************************************************************** *How do I sign up?! Please reply to this email with: * -Your full name -Any dietary requirements -Any medical conditions -An emergency contact number for your next of kin -Your CID number -Confirm you have done all 5 SRT skills (Ascending, Descending, Change over, Rebelay, Deviation) -And anything else you think we need to know over the course of the weekend. *If you have any medical conditions, dietary requirements, or any concerns you're not comfortable discussing over email, please speak to a committee member during kit-packing on Tuesday, or Friday. It's very important to us that our trips are inclusive and accessible, so we're happy to make accommodations. *Reply quickly to make sure you get a place!* *How the trip works* *Kit packing - *We will meet in *stores on Thursday (28/11) at 17:00 to pack kit*. You do not need any equipment of your own, we will provide everything you could possibly need in a cave. *Transport - *We will set off in the minibus on *Friday evening around 17:30 *from outside Beit Halls and return there on Sunday evening around 23:00. *Food - *We will stop at a supermarket somewhere on the way to buy all the food we need for the weekend and also for you to buy Friday's dinner as well as snacks or drinks. Saturday’s and Sunday’s meals will be cooked as a group at the hut, and the cost is included in the trip cost. (Accommodation, food, transport and all equipment are covered by the trip cost!) *Caving - *On Saturday we'll usually wake up around 8:30, cook breakfast and plan our trips in an open discussion while we eat. We can have fairly long caving trips on Saturdays for those who want it, but sometimes a few of us decide to have a nice day on the surface instead. We'll aim to get underground right after midday, lest we anger the caving gods. Trips can range from 3 to 8 hours, depending on the cave chosen and how people are feeling. Sunday will run much the same, only trips will be shorter since we need to drive back to London in the evening as well. There are lots of different caves for us to visit on this trip, so check out some of our previous yorkshire trips on our website! Imperial College Caving Club <https://imperialcaving.com/> *Accommodation - *We will be staying at the The NPC <https://northernpennineclub.org.uk/>. Their hut has a large kitchen and living room, plenty of bunk beds, toilets, and showers! *FAQ's* What if I can't pack kit on Thursday? - Just send us a message, and you can do it on Friday (if you can come before 5pm that helps) What if I can't make the trip anymore? - Please give as much notice as possible, we might not be able to refund you if we can't fill your space on the bus. Can I bring my phone underground? - Short answer: yes. Long answer: We wouldn't recommend it as they can get damaged. Instead we have special 'Cave Phones' you can use to take pictures underground! Any other questions? Just reply to this email or ask on the groupchat. Tree training and kit packing are also a great chance for you to discuss any concerns or have a conversation with someone in person. *Upcoming trips* *Date Destination Details* 29/11 – 01/12 Yorkshire Y2: SRT Required 13/12 - 21/12 Yorkshire Winter Tour: SRT Required Most of our trips for the rest of the year *will require SRT*, so get yourself down to Princes Gardens next Wednesday and learn SRT! Until I've finished patching the sleeping bag, Chris ICCC President -- Imperial College Caving Club <https://imperialcaving.com/>
