Hi all, I’ll be running for President, Treasurer and Secretary (in that order). I’ll expand a bit at the meeting but here’s a summary of my thoughts on each of the roles: President: Now that I’ve actually got some experience being on the committee during an active year, I've experienced the chaos first hand and have a better idea of what's required to make things happen. Among the challenges faced, typical union inadequacies, an atypical minibus crisis and a very atypical pandemic have been navigated and overcome. I’d always be open to suggestions or discussion, but here are a few ideas I wrote down over the last few months: - Most importantly, ensure everyone is safe and feels comfortable discussing any concerns about anything from weather to kit to motivation with anyone and everyone. The community feel is a big part of why I enjoy doing things with the club so much, and I'd really try to keep that up. - We've had quite a few freshers ask to get involved late in the year - Wales trip late January, one-off tree training session early February? - Visiting the Mendips for bonfire night seemed be fun so I'd be keen to chat to people and gauge if there's interest in doing that again, potentially staying at the Belfry. - Possibly a non-standard trip location could be quite exciting – North Wales mines? I’ve heard of possible contacts from the grapevine... - Also possible would be the Forest of Dean – Wikipedia describes Otter hole as “perhaps one of the best decorated caves in Britain”. A bold claim. - Instead of washing rope in the washing machine, I'll install a custom automatic rope washing machine just outside by the taps. It'll be portable too so we can bring it to huts. And it'll dry the rope using compressed air. And coil it too. And play a little tune when it's done just like the redundant washing machine. - Lots of our lights have been dying recently so I think instead of replacing them, a better investment would be to splice our DNA with that of bats and master the art of echolocation. This will bring us closer to our closest brethren. -'The Cave' has taught us that exploring new caves may uncover a new and aggressive species of mutant dragon, so every group pushing a lead in slov will have a flamethrower as standard equipment, just in case. - Minibus music will exclusively be lofi hip-hop radio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qap5aO4i9A Treasurer: While I haven't been particularly involved in the finances this year, I've heard great things about Zaeem's ultra-thorough work on budgeting and money-management, and would be honoured to follow in his footsteps. - There was lots of discussion early this year about how trip fees are distributed - Now that we've had a year to experience it, it could be useful discuss anything that did or didn't work, or any unexpected consequences of some policies. We may be able to make some small adjustments if needed. - Gourmet chocolate bars were promised at the last AGM, and Double Deckers were delivered - this must continue. Secretary: My role this year, so I'd be happy to continue as before, spamming anyone who'll listen with emails asking for whatever I feel like. Over the course of the year I've periodically updated the secretary info document started by Jack aeons ago, so even if I'm not secretary hopefully most of the accumulated knowledge will be seamlessly passed over. Overall, whichever position I end up in, with whomever I work with, I'll strive to ensnare and capture the newly mattiriculated students underground with matticulous and mattimatical efficiency, and see a shining Mitropoulos through a Year of Mattiavellianism. Yours till the final coup, Matti ________________________________ From: iccc-club@googlegroups.com <iccc-club@googlegroups.com> on behalf of Imperial College Caving Club <ic.caving@gmail.com> Sent: Monday, March 7, 2022 11:11:54 AM To: icu-caving-announce <icu-caving-announce@imperial.ac.uk>; iccc-club@googlegroups.com <iccc-club@googlegroups.com> Subject: [iccc-club] AGM and Committee Election Hello cavers, Our AGM is happening next week Tuesday (15/03/2022) at 6pm ! We have been trying to book the union bar, but have not heard back yet. So the location will either be the union bar all to ourselves, or the union/568 with other people around. You are welcome to arrive from 5pm onwards, there will be fellow cavers in stores or the union already. How the AGM will work: First there’ll be a quick update from the committee to let you know what we have been up to this year. Then we will hear speeches from the candidates, and of course RON. Voting will happen after the round of speeches for each position. This means, that if you don’t get your dream job, you can still run for other roles. Finally, we will have a debate and vote on how to best integrate a welfare officer role in the committee. You are also welcome to bring up any suggestions/issues at the AGM to discuss. Our AGM is very informal and mostly involves drinking/eating in the pub. If you cannot make it in-person, but would like to be involved in voting, please let us know. Please run for committee roles, we rely on all of you to keep the club going! Writing a manifesto is a good idea to let people know what you are planning (and to insert lots of name puns), but it is enough to just tell us which position you want to run for. This email is to inform you that we will be opting out of the union online election, and will instead organise our own live election. We, the committee, decided to opt out of eVoting because of the small size of our club, to allow as many positions to be filled as possible, and to maintain the age-old tradition of our highly entertaining RON speeches. Key Dates Nominations Opening: 15/02/2022 Nominations Closing & Manifesto Deadline: 14/03/2022 AGM/Voting: 15/03/2022 Results Submitted to Union: 16/03/2022 There will be an email in Februrary explaining the committee roles and calling for nominations and manifestos. Anyone can run for a position by replying to that email, ideally with a manifesto. All voting will be done live at the AGM in March. The AGM will be held in-person in the union bar and speeches will be given by all candidates. In-person votes will be cast by raising hands (candidates leave the room) and remote votes can be submitted to the returning officer anonymously via a doodle poll during the AGM. Any contesting of results must also be done at the AGM.
