Hi all,
For the first time (or at least the first time in a very long time) the club will be visiting the North Wales mines!
When: Friday 03/03/2023 at 17:00 to Sunday 05/03/2023 at 23:45
Where: Snowdonia National Park
Membership: you need membership to join weekend trips (£30.00) (membership lasts the entire year)
Price: Capped at £45. Please only buy the trip fee once your spot on this trip has been confirmed. We aim to confirm spots late this week / early next week and an email with more details will be sent out then.
This trip requires ‘single rope technique’ (SRT) – you must have completed all of the techniques at tree training before the trip. Additionally, due to the increased risk of visiting abandoned mines and the lack of experience the club has in this region, everyone coming on this trip needs to have attended at least one SRT trip before. If you haven’t completed the necessary rope training to come on SRT trips, the next opportunity to do so unfortunately won’t be until October when the club will be running novice events. There will be one final rope training session running this Wednesday, however it is unlikely you’ll be able to learn all of the skills in one session, as a minimum of two is recommended to familiarise yourself with the motions.
Sign up: Please reply to this email if you would like to come. Please tell us your full name, any dietary requirements, any medical conditions.
Leaders who have access to our spreadsheet, please add your name there.
We will meet in stores on Tuesday (28/02) at 17:00 to pack kit. You do not need any equipment of your own, we will provide everything you could possibly need in a cave. A thermal base layer is beneficial on particularly cold weekends, if you happen to own thermals. Please also remember a sleeping bag for the hut – if you don’t have one, let us know before we leave and we can lend you one. We’ll be staying at Imperial's hut.
Two weeks after this trip will be the final trip of the term – Yorkshire 3 at the Northern Pennine Club. We’re at the pub every Tuesday as usual (except tomorrow), and there are plenty more socials planned this term; the next being Pancake Day tomorrow (21/02) 19:30, at Cave House, 55 Norbroke Street, W12 0QX.
Yours till the last sketchy homemade anchor,
Matti Mitropoulos
