Tree Training final reminder!

We will not be running tree training in second term so if you want to come on any trips you will need to come to two of these sessions. We'll be in Prince's Gardens opposite Ethos. It's 1-5 on Wednesdays and it will probably take around 2 hours for you to learn all the SRT (Single Rope Technique) skills but you can drop in any time and stay as long as you like and don't have to learn everything in one session. There has been a bit of a queue at the sessions this term so it could take longer. The training is free and you don't need to buy membership, just turn up. Pre drinks: At 6pm, we will be arriving at The Huntley for some high-class socialising. (This is a UCL pub so pints are cheap as chips were 2017). Come along for Christmas dinner, epic caving trips and every cover of Last Christmas. *When* Friday 15/12 - Friday 22/12 but you can come for any time during this just let us know before. *Where *Yorkshire *Membership* you need membership to join weekend trips which is £30.00 (membership lasts the entire year) Price Last year it was £100 for someone staying the whole time but the price will vary depending on how much we spend so it will be capped at £150. You will be asked to pay a £50 deposit before the trip. The price will of course be less if you aren't staying for the whole time. You will still get a £20 discount if this is your first trip. If you are not travelling in the minibus you will need to sort out and pay for your own travel. *SRT *(Single Rope Technique) You need to have learned how to do: -Ascending -Descending -Change over -Deviation -Rebelay before coming on this trip. We have been keeping track of what everyone has learned and want you to be as confident as possible before taking you in a cave. There are three more tree training sessions before the trip so there is still time to learn if you come to at least two sessions. If you've already learned some skills you can practice them and learn the rest. You can still sign up and will be given a place but *it will be conditional on you learning the remaining skills*. *Sign up! We'll stop at a supermarket somewhere on the way to buy Friday's dinner as well as personal snacks or drinks. All the other meals will be cooked as a group at the hut, and the cost is included in the trip cost. Accommodation, transport and all equipment are also covered by the ticket price. On a typical day we'll wake up around 9, cook breakfast and plan our trips while we eat. There will be a range of caves that we visit throughout the week and this is a chance to push yourself to do harder trips and for some people to learn new skills. There will of course be chill trips and there will be surface dwellers most days who will go for walks, play board games and complain about how bruised/hungover/tired they are. We'll aim to get underground right after midday, lest we anger the caving gods. Trips can range from 4 to 10 hours, depending on the cave chosen and how people are feeling. We'll drive back on Friday 22nd at a currently undecided time depending on whether we go caving first. We'll be in Prince's Gardens opposite Ethos. You can turn up any time between 1-5 and it will probably take 1 to 2 hours for you to learn all the SRT (Single Rope Technique) skills but you can stay as long as you like and don't have to learn everything in one session. Everyone *must* have been to at least one tree training before going on a Yorkshire trip and typically we require two. So if you want to go on Y1 (10-12/11), Y2 (1-3/12) or Winter tour (15-22/12) then come along. For people who learn best if they can go home and review what they learned in their own time we have an SRT guide attached to this email that Una helpfully made and a lot of people find this very useful for helping them learn.
