Hello everyone, Just a quick email to remind you about our *talk and slideshow* we are have *today at 1pm.* This will be in *meeting room 3* in the east basement of the union but if you can't find it someone will wander round *Beit Quad *in a caving helmet and show you the way. The talk will cover what you can expect from the club and its trips. There's also a more in depth section on our summer expedition. Caving - Reminder

Hello everyone, I just wanted to remind you of the things coming up in the caving club calendar. *Tomorrow*, we are having our usual pub meeting* *in the *union *at *7.30pm. *Also anyone who is coming on our *weekend trip* should come some time around *6pm* to pack their caving gear. On *Wednesday* at *1:00pm *in *Meeting Room 3* in the union* *we are having our *Freshers Talk* where we will be telling you about the club, our trips, and what to expect as a caver. As an added incentive there will be *free cheese and wine!* If you can't find the room we will have someone in *Beit Quad *wearing a caving helmet to lead you to the right place. After the talk we will have our *Tree Training *as usual in *Prince's Gardens.* * * Finally, we still have places left on our *weekend trip* for anyone who wants to come. Caving - Upcoming events

Hello new cavers, This is what's going on in the caving club over the coming weeks: *Tree Training* Every *Wednesday* this term at* 1:00pm* (weather permitting) in *Prince's Gardens*. We generally meet in *Beit Quad* to collect our equipment at * 12:50pm *then walk over together. We will show you the basics of SRT (single rope technique) that will be needed for the trips later in the term, this is also a great place to meet your fellow cavers and sign up for trips. *Pub Meet* Every *Tuesday from 7:30pm* we will be meeting in the *union bar*, so if you have any questions, want to sign up for trips or just want to hear tales of caving glory then come along. We'll be the ones with the caving helmet. *Fresher's Talk* On *Wednesday the 10th of October* we will be hosting a talk at *1:00pm in Meeting Room 3* in the Union. This will go through what our club is about, what to expect from trips and a look at our summer Slovenian expedition. The Caves of Tolminski Migovec - Expedition Talk @ 18:30, Tues 20th March

Dear Cavers, Well, nearly at the end of two terms of caving! And what a fantastic load of trips it's been. Check the website for the results of the AGM, and for announcements of trips in the summer term: http://union.ic.ac.uk/rcc/caving/ You may also know that we have a long term exploration project in Slovenia. Next Tuesday instead of meeting in the union bar, we are presenting a talk for the Exploration society on its recent history: *The Caves of Tolminski Migovec - An IC Caving Society Expedition Talk Elec LT 408 at 18:30 on Tuesday 20th March* Since 1994, Imperial College Caving Club has been organising summer expeditions to explore the cave passage within Tolminski Migovec in western Slovenia. Exploration over the last three years has focused on connecting the Migovec System (11.49km long, 970m deep) to the more recently explored Vrtnarija (11.03km long, 888m deep), which would jointly become the longest cave in Slovenia. In pursuit of this goal, exploration in Vrtnarija has been pursued at considerable depth during multiple day underground camps. In 2010 we discovered massive horizontal phreatic levels that had lain untouched since their formation millions of years ago, before the mountains themselves existed. During 2011 we pushed Vrtnarija to a new maximum depth of 888m, discovering over 2km of passage in the process. The area of closest approach between the two systems has been explored to within our survey error. The connection of the systems & the promotion of Migovec to the top of the 'leader board' of Slovenian caves would be all the more remarkable due to the deep and challenging nature of the cave we've discovered, in a country where the top ten is dominated by the warm shallow caves of the classic Karst. Our exploration is carried out on a shoestring budget, involves a majority of students, yet is very much world class cave exploration. In this talk I will aim to give a general introduction to alpine caving and modern cave exploration, and discuss our recent exploration. Hi guys, Just a quick reminder that we'll be meeting in the union pub tomorrow at 7.30pm and there will be tree training on Wednesday at 1pm in Princes Gardens as usual. We'll probably work on some new rope techniques, since most of you seem to be comfortable with the basics. Also, Oliver has kindly written a trip report of last weekend's trip to Wales. Hi everyone, We've just returned from an excellent weekend in South Wales! Great caving and great company... The next trip will be on 28-30th Oct, to a different area in South Wales. Currently, there aren't any places left on the minibus but email me if you want to come anyway so I can put you on the waiting list! We might have an additional car this weekend, and people are always dropping out... Finally, just a quick reminder that we'll be meeting in the union tonight from 7pm for a few drinks (ring me on 07542135310 if you can't spot us), and there will be tree training tomorrow at Princes Gardens at 1pm! SLIDESHOW TONIGHT -- Venue now Physics Lecture Theatre Two

Dear Cavers, Just to make it absolutely clear, the slideshow tonight (Wednesday) is at 6:30PM in Lecture Theatre Two, Physics Building (Blackett Laboratory). We'll have someone on the street level at the west end of Prince Consort Road wearing a caving helmet to swipe people into the building, and direct them downstairs to the lecture theatre. Caving -- This week's events

Hi everyone, Just a quick email to inform you of the coming week's events, and how to sign up for trips! Tuesday Pub meet We meet every week around 730pm at the union -- it's a great way to get to socialise and get to know members of the club in a very informal setting, and ask any questions you have about caving! Look out for a caving helmet on the table, but if you have any problems finding us just give me a ring at 07542135310. Wednesday Freshers talk and tree training We'll have our weekly tree training session at 1pm as usual in Princes Gardens (meet at Beit to collect ropes first). And for this week only, we're holding a pretty slideshow presentation just for you! 6.30pm at Meeting Room 2 at the union. We'll be telling you more about caving, what you can expect from the club, and the trips and tours we get up to throughout the year. If that's not temptation enough, there will also be free cheese and wine! Weekend trips Our first weekend trip will be to South Wales on the 14-16th Oct. Places are limited and a few freshers have already signed up, so get in touch asap if you want to come! If you can't make this weekend, don't worry, you can also sign up to other trips. Dear Future Cavers, It was great speaking to you guys at Freshers Fair today; hope all of you had a good time! Just a quick email to give you an idea of some of the events we have lined up for you. Wednesday Tree Training Starting tomorrow, we'll meet at 1pm every Wednesday at Beit Quad to collect the gear before moving to Princes Gardens for tree training proper (if you're late just go straight to Princes Gardens). This is when we show you the techniques needed to abseil and climb the ropes; it's not necessary for our first two weekend trips this term, but you want to come to at least a session or two before we move on to 'vertical' caves. For tomorrow, feel free to come down even if you just want to chat with us about caving, or to sign up for a trip! Tuesday pub meets We also meet every Tuesday at 730pm at the Union. It's really laid back, so just stop by to get to know everyone in the club and ask us any questions you might have. Hopefully you'll be able to spot a familiar face in the pub/quad, but if you don't just give me (Clare) a ring at 07542135310. Freshers Slideshow We've also planned a slideshow/talk to give you a better idea of what to expect from caving and the club. Free cheese and wine is traditional, as are pretty pictures of caves and formations. We're still trying to confirm the venue and time, so keep an eye out for an email from me soon!
