Tomorrow, we will be hosting an EGM to fill out our committee (you may have noticed there are not many of us!). We have a host of roles (described below) that we would like to fill, and we have tried to balance them out so that they aren't too time-demanding. Feel free to write a manifesto if you really want to (there's really no need) but we will vote on the day and those who wish to run will give a very short speech followed by answering a few questions. As well as being able to put this all over your CV, you will be part of the innermost sanctum of the club, hear all the juicy goss first and make a real difference to a society that has been bringing subterranean joy to students and alums for over 60 years - what more could you want! *This is very informal*, so please do just turn up, be it just to vote or to hear from future committee members! If you are undecided, do not worry - you can just turn up and put yourself forward :) Where: In the RSM Building, though TBC exactly where, as we could not formally book a room in time. When: 6pm Thursday (Tomorrow 30th October) Roles Available: - 1 Assistant Secretary The role of the secretary (Claryce) is to make sure the club keeps running in the background, organising keys, booking huts, and even booking the minibus (back in the old days). Your job will be to help them whenever they need. This should be a fairly low workload, mostly taking on overflow jobs like sending and reading some emails. - 1 Assistant Tours Sec: The main role for this position will be to help the tours secretary (Ben) plan and sort out our upcoming Easter Tour! No skills necessary, it will be mostly helping with some logistics and maybe write a few emails. This job will be mostly quiet this term, picking up a little towards the end of spring term (when the tour happens). There's no requirement to actually go on the tour, of course. - 2 Social Secs Or 1, depending on demand. The idea would be to split the workload between 2 keen members if you feel the role may be too much to fully commit to. Social secs are responsible for organising socials and making sure people have fun! This is for anyone who would like some experience planning events, and writing incredible emails in time before the event (we can show some previous works of art to give ideas). - 1 Media Sec This role is mostly to keep people informed on what we have been doing, mostly on the club Instagram (though there is an old facebook group if you're up for the challenge). The role will involve creating fun little posts, and answering messages we receive now and then. - 1 Welfare Officer A very important role with a low general work load, the aim of the welfare officer is to be a confidential contact for anyone about anything welfare related. It should start around 6pm in the RSM building, and anyone can run for the couple of committee positions available! Here is a photo from this weekend! It will mostly be focussed around SRT training, so *please come if you are interested in coming to Yorkshire and have not yet learned SRT*. Mendips is a "mostly" horizontal caving region within Somerset, often a bit more inclined that Wales. SRT Training and Socials

This, in fact, may be due to the fact we have no social sec (how sad). HOWEVER, we are changing this! Come join us at our *EGM* next Thursday if you would like to join the committee. TLDR (for the whole email): - *EGM*: Happening *next Thursday (30/10)*. Read information below if you are interested in helping us out with running the club. - Tree Training: Unfortunately, we don't know when we can start tree training again (due to union issues), if you would like to learn SRT, we will be trying to teach as many people on trips. This means that if you would like to join a Yorkshire trip, please join us on Mendips 1 or CHECC (there is a large SRT rig where we can teach). We hope to be up the tree soon :( - Socials: 1 on Wednesday (Bouldering at Ravenswall), 1 on Halloween itself, 1 on Bonfire night. Please come along, we'd love to see you all. TREE TRAINING Unfortunately due to Union issues, tree training will have to be postponed until further notice. If you would like to join us on a Yorkshire trip (and eventually Easter Tour/Slov), please come to Mendips (the trip after Wales 2, from 7/11-9/11), or to CHECC (the weekend after Mendips 1). We have had to change our first Yorkshire trip to Mendips, as at the hut we will now be staying at, there is an SRT rig that we can train people on in the evenings, meaning we can still do caving in the day. CHECC is a large social event for all university cavers across the UK (Council of Higher Education Caving Clubs), meaning the weekend will be filled with drinking, partying, and lots and lots of caving game competitions. If you are interested, sign ups will go out next week. Trip sign ups will now be just over 2 weeks before the trip to comply with union rules, so please look out for the Mendips sign up at the end of this week :) SOCIALS So, unfortunately there have been few socials recently. We seek to change this. Here are 3 socials coming up: Social 2: Wednesday What? We will be having a bouldering social at Ravenswall! We will meet on campus at 1.45pm, leave by 2pm to get there, otherwise meet at Ravenswall before 4pm (to get in before peak prices). We will probably do something after, and will let people know on the whatsapp. Where? Ravenswall, Hammersmith When? 22/10, 1.45pm Social 3: Halloween TBD by our next social sec... (though I'm sure it will be incredible fun). Social 4: Guy Fawkes What? We will be having a bonfire and setting off fireworks! Please bring drinks, we will be providing food for the barbecue/bonfire, and some fireworks (though feel free to bring your own)! Where? Cave house! (55 Norbroke Street, East Acton). When? 5/11, 6pm EGM (Emergency General Meeting) We unfortunately didn't get all the slots filled in the committee last year, so we are running a little low on manpower for the club. If anyone is interested in helping us out (with very simple roles), please let us know! You can write a manifesto if you would like, but honestly feel free to come along and even just sign up for something on the day! We will let whoever is running give a speech, and then all vote after they leave the room. We will announce the room on the day, as we aren't able to officially book one, so it will probably be in the RSM building. With Hidden Earth set to begin next Friday (26/09/25), it's time to buy tickets! This is a reminder that advanced booking closes on *Sunday 21st September at 11pm*, so be sure to book before then to get discounted tickets. You will also need to pay to camp at the venue. Arrangements can be made to share tents and split the cost of camping. So if you're interested, please let us know and we'll organise some shared tents. You can also pay to attend a nice dinner organised by the conference on Saturday evening. However most of us will be buying our own dinner instead, so that is also an option if you prefer. I hope everyone had a great Slov (or summer), and have grand plans for the rest... We are here to announce the dates of the summer trips! This year, we will be hosting 2 caving trips, 1 each to Yorkshire and the Mendips. These trips are not affiliated with the union, so no minibus will be leaving from London. This means 2 things: 1. We need drivers to take people, so please let us know by replying if you would be able to take people, so we can organise 2. It's very important to us that our trips are inclusive and accessible, so we're happy to make accommodations. *How the trip works* *Kit packing - *We will meet in *stores on Thursday (04/09), and Tuesday (16/09) at 17:00 to pack kit*. You do not need any equipment of your own, we will provide everything you could possibly need in a cave. *Transport - *Set off from somewhere (to be organised) *Food - *We will stop at a supermarket somewhere on the way to buy all the food we need for the weekend and also for you to buy Friday's dinner as well as snacks or drinks. Saturday’s and Sunday’s meals will be cooked as a group at the hut, and the cost is included in the trip cost. (Accommodation, food, transport and all equipment are covered by the trip cost!) *Caving - *On Saturday we'll usually wake up around 8:30, cook breakfast and plan our trips in an open discussion while we eat. We can have fairly long caving trips on Saturdays for those who want it, but sometimes a few of us decide to have a nice day on the surface instead. We'll aim to get underground right after midday, lest we anger the caving gods. Trips can range from 3 to 8 hours, depending on the cave chosen and how people are feeling. Sunday will run much the same, only trips will be shorter since we need to drive back to London in the evening as well. Slov Weekend - Open to all

This weekend (14th-15th June), we will commence some of the final preparations for our summer expedition!!! Below is the schedule for the weekend, which is open to all... Saturday: Kit Fettling! From the order of Davey, all our rope labels are wrong, so these need relabelling. As this won't take more than a couple of people, we will also be UV proofing any more tents that need it, so please place your tents into stores should they need it. This day is very good for picking out an oversuit and some other pieces of kit you really like for Slov, and fixing anything on it that may rip, as Mig is very sharp and has destroyed many many items of clothing and kit in the past and present. Start: 11am Finish: 6pm - To be followed up with a classic Jan windmill session (in Brixton). Sunday: Rescue training! Most of the day will be spent at the infamous SRT tree, where we all will learn new techniques that will never be used in Slov. We would really recommend everyone to come if possible, and I also may bring some food as not everyone will be in the tree at the same time. There will also be a talk just beforehand about particular Slov safety, including what to do whilst caving and general safety at the surface. Again, please join, and you are even welcome to join if you are not coming to Slov. As kit fettling will be finished on Saturday, and there are no more trips before Slov, after rescue training we will start packing kit. This means if you would like some nice and shiny luxurious kit for Slov, come along and pack it then, else you have no clue what you might get... Start: 12pm, an RSM room, to be announced on the main group chat on the day End: 7/8pm, possibly at the union depending on how people are feeling after rescue training.
