Thanks to all of you for persevering through rotten weather :) our next session is going ahead next *Wednesday 4th November.* New faces are welcome, and for the people who have already been, this is a chance to learn more advanced techniques and practice what you have already learned. In these sessions we practice the rope techniques used in vertical caving (trips to Yorkshire, Derbyshire, expeditions to Slovenia, and Easter tour), ascending and descending a tree in Princes' Gardens. This is the green space between Ethos gym and the health centre, on the Ethos side. Because the union are using the union shop for their track& trace list, and we can't list products for free, there is a £3 booking charge for each hour-long slot. We want your first session to be free, so if you're coming along for the first time we will refund this to you in person on the day. There will be 4 slots available each week: 1pm - 2pm, 2pm - 3pm, 3pm - 4pm and 4pm - 5pm. If you want to join us, please 'buy' tree training for £3 on the union shop (link below). We want your first tree training to be free, but can't list free items on our shop, so your £3 will be refunded to you in person. The union needs this to go through the shop because they're using this for track& trace for events. In the game, we play as crewmates completing tasks on spaceships and launch sites. However there are impostors among us... our task is to identify who the impostors are before they kill us all. The game is downloadable on smartphones for free and you can join a private game with a code that will be sent out when we start playing. You can also download it on your laptop but it does cost (£4). We will be talking on jitsi too, with the link to join being sent out at 5 for the group call starting at 6. If you are not up for playing any games, this night will also be a virtual pub night. So feel free to join us for a chat! Join us at our first virtual pub of the term *tomorrow*! The poll was inconclusive, so in keeping with tradition we've decided to host weekly virtual socials on Tuesdays from 6pm. Apologies for the short notice, new faces will be welcome next week and anytime after that if you can't make this one :) There are plans for an online games social next Tuesday which we'll be talking about tomorrow, with an email and facebook event going out later in the week. Feel free to shoot us ideas about any additional things you'd like to do this term given we can't currently go caving. We'll be hosting on *Jitsi* from *6pm* so keep a look out for an email with the invite link tomorrow at *5*. Jitsi is an easy in-browser video call platform, so no need to download anything. We'll likely be forming a few splinter rooms to minimise chaos. Looking forward to seeing you all virtually, and to seeing some of you in person at tree training on wednesday! We're thrilled you're interested in joining the caving club this year. Though we can't currently run any overnight trips as we usually would, we're still a very active and social club. Tree Training We will be starting our weekly tree training sessions on Wednesday (21st) from 1 - 5pm. This will take place in Princes' Gardens (by Ethos gym). 2 people will be there to teach you how to use all the necessary caving equipment so that, when student caving is possible again, you can go on our trips involving rope techniques. It will also be an opportunity to chat, ask questions, and get to know some club members in a small group. Each slot is 1hr long. Virtual Pub socials We plan to hold virtual socials at least once a week. Please fill in the doodle poll with your preferred day, so we can meet as many of you as possible. Depending on the number of responses for each date, we will use either zoom for breakout rooms or jitsi for ease of use. Socials will take place at 6pm. We'll be in touch with the preferred dates from the poll and the link to join will be released an hour before the start. It’s a perfect chance to meet us and find out more about caving and our club. We have a mix of boozy and non-boozy members so there's no pressure to drink if that's not your thing. *Slovenia talk and Q&A (Zoom)* ICCC have been aiding the JSPDT (the local Slovenian caving club) in the exploration of Sistem Migovec in Triglav National Park, Slovenia, since 1994.
