Wales 2 - SPACES

Hi all, I've just had three people drop out of this weekend's trip to Wales so there are now spaces on the bus! These spaces are not fresher specific but I will prioritise first time cavers. Trip information below, email me if you want to go :) Hope some of you can come! Jennifer *Trip Logistics* On Friday, we'll be meeting in caving stores at 5 pm. We'll pack the minibus with all of our stuff and then head off to Wales with a stop at a supermarket to buy the food for the weekend. There'll probably be food cooked when we arrive at the hut but it may be quite late (~10-11 pm) so you might want to bring some snacks for the bus or buy them at the shop when we stop. We'll be in Wales for the weekend, caving on Saturday and Sunday and then driving back to London to hopefully be in South Ken by ~10 pm. *Dietary/Medical Issues* If you have any dietary requirements or medical issues, please let me know either in person or by emailing ic.caving(a)gmail.com (all the food we cook will be vegetarian). Nut allergies are particularly important as a lot of our food for in the caves contains nuts. *What to bring* You don't need to bring much in the way of specialist kit - we'll lend you all the stuff you need to wear in the cave. Bring enough general clothes to wear on the weekend (including a warm jumper/jacket/coat), toiletries and a towel in case you get wet/want to shower. Spare underwear is also a good idea in case of getting wet. You'll also need a sleeping bag. We won't be camping but the place we stay has beds without duvets so we need to bring our own bedding. If you haven't got one, we have a few we can lend out but they aren't super clean and so it's probably best if you just pop to Decathlon (there's one in High Street Kensington) or somewhere similar to buy a cheap one before Friday. -- Imperial College Caving Club <http://union.ic.ac.uk/caving>

Hiya Cavers, *tldr*; - Trip to Yorkshire 8th-10th November (£37) - You need to come to tree training if you want to go on the trip - Email to ask for a place before buying the trip fee - Join our Facebook group It's time to think about Yorkshire! We'll be leaving on Friday 8th November and getting back late on the Sunday. *Tree Training* If you want to come on this trip, or any of our trips to Yorkshire or Derbyshire, you'll need to come along to tree training to learn how to use ropes in the caves! We'll be in Princes' Gardens on Wednesdays from 1-5 pm to teach you all you need to know. *Yorkshire* "North Yorkshire is the classic caving region in Britain for vertical caving, including probably the most famous cave entrance Gaping Gill a massive 110m shaft. The rugged beauty of the moors provides a stunning backdrop to an enormous choice of exciting potholes. A favourite with existing members for practising rope skills." *The Trip* The trip will cost £37 and this covers all accommodation, travel, equipment hire and food for the weekend! If you haven't already bought membership for the club, you'll also need to buy that on the union shop before you can purchase the trip fee. The trip fee will appear sometime next week but please don't buy it until we have confirmed you have a place. We'll set off in one of the union minibuses after lectures on Friday and stop at a supermarket to buy food and booze for the weekend. The drive is long but there'll be bangin' tunes and good company to make the time fly. We'll be staying at a caving hut (a cottage for cavers) in North Yorkshire. The caving cottages have bunk rooms, toilets, a kitchen and showers, as well as somewhere to dry your caving kit. The cave on Saturday will be Alum pot (weather dependent) which is a large open shaft so we will be potentially caving in the daylight! On Sunday /the weather turns foul /we want to split people up more, we will go to Kingsdale where there are many good caves. Film Night

Yorkshire II - 29th to 1nd Dec It was great seeing all of you at the freshers' fair today! Hopefully we managed to convince you to go caving with us. This email is to give you a bit of info on how the club works and if you do want to sign up to any of our trips you’ll get more details about what they entail when you sign up. Tree Training We will be starting our weekly tree training sessions on Wednesday (2nd) from 1 - 5pm (roughly, we are often there until the light goes). This will take place in Princes Gardens - just look for people tangled in ropes in the trees! There’ll be lots of us there to discuss what we do on our weekend trips and just generally chat and answer any questions you have. We’ll be around all afternoon so feel free to come and leave any time – there may be a bit of a wait to get in the trees if everyone is there at the same time! Don’t worry though, there’ll be snacks to eat and caving games to play if there are a lot of you! The tree training will teach you how to use all the necessary caving equipment to go on our later trips involving rope techniques but is not necessary for our fresher's trips to Wales. Come along, there's no obligation to join the club or even go on a trip, just have fun chatting or climbing and abseiling in the (hopefully) sun! Check the Facebook for updates on the start time and if we are cancelling due to the weather. Pub social meetings As usual we will be meeting at the FiveSixEight or the Union bar from 6pm each Tuesday starting today, it’s a perfect chance to find out more about caving, our club, or sign up for trips. We normally have a muddy caving helmet so you can find us! Trips Our first trip of the year is NEXT WEEKEND (11th-13th Oct)! If you’re interested in coming on the trip you'll need to buy membership and then pay for the trip fee which will go live at 18:00 tomorrow here <https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/activities/a-to-z/caving>. We'll then email you all the info needed for the trip and arrange for you to come down to caving stores to pack kit, directions to stores will be included.. Trips are every two weeks and the two fresher’s trips to Wales cost just £11 for new members. That includes all food, transport, equipment and accommodation. It may even be cheaper to go caving than staying at home! To come on any of our trips you’ll need to buy membership which is £26.
