You really need to have been to tree training and done ascending, descending and a re-belay at least! You'll also need to come and pack kit before we leave on Friday. Hey humans, *tldr;* *- COME TO TREE TRAINING every Weds 1-5 pm* *- Yorkshire II 16th-18th Nov* *- CHECC Forum (read: get drunk for a weekend) 23rd-25th Nov* *- Respond to this email if you wan't to come to either* *Yorkshire II* Our next Yorkshire trip will be on the weekend of the 16th-18th November. If you want to come, please make sure you've been to at least one Tree Training session before you ask for a space! You can sign up to the trip in person on Wednesday at tree training pr reply to this email and we'll let you know if you can come. As our previous trips have been so popular (i.e. oversubscribed), people who have been to tree training will take priority over those who haven't so make sure you come this Wednesday. Spaces won't be allocated until after tree training on Wednesday so don't be too worried if you haven't been before. *CHECC Forum * *Just a heads up - this is not a trip! If you want to go caving, come to one of our Yorkshire trips!* CHECC = The Council of Higher Education Caving Clubs The CHECC forum is basically a weekend where university caving clubs from around the UK meet up for lots of drinking, dancing and general socialising. There are also training sessions held on the Saturday and Sunday which can be really interesting and useful. There will be caving game competitions on the Saturday night featuring Pot and Sling, Squeeze Machine, Knot tying and more! *Info from the CHECC website:* *"This year’s Forum will be held at Hope Valley College in the peak district between 23rd – 25th of November 2018. Doors will likely open between 7-8pm. We will most likely be camping on the playing fields outside the school although if the weather is bad we may have to sleep indoors...**Food is included with the price of a ticket, two breakfasts and one dinner on the Saturday night. Both vegetarian/meat options will be available. As always we will be hosting a disco in the main sports hall & games on the saturday night."* *Training Sessions Include:* 1. Cave Rescue Workshop 2. SRT Workshop 3. Photography Workshop 4. Survey Workshop 5. Bolting/Technical Workshop 6. Hydrogeology & Dye Tracing 7. Leadership and Training Skills 8. Halloween Climbing Social

Hey cavers, We're heading to HarroWall this Friday from 6pm for some climbing in fancy dress! It's £5 entry if you dress up and they even have a fake cave which we can crawl around in. What's not to love? We'll be ending the night at The Slug in Fulham, aiming to leave from Harrow around 8ish so we might actually get in this time. Hello Cavers, *tldr;* *- Trip to Yorkshire 2nd-4th November (£37)* *- You need to come to tree training if you want to go on the trip* *- Email to ask for a place before buying the trip fee* *- Join our Facebook group <https://www.facebook.com/groups/imperialcaving/>* Our next trip is to Yorkshire! We'll be leaving on Friday 2nd November and getting back late on the Sunday. *Tree Training* If you want to come on this trip, or any of our trips to Yorkshire or Derbyshire, you'll need to come along to tree training to learn how to use ropes in the caves! We'll be in Princes' Gardens on Wednesdays from 1-5 pm to teach you all you need to know. *Yorkshire* "North Yorkshire is the classic caving region in Britain for vertical caving, including probably the most famous cave entrance Gaping Gill a massive 110m shaft. The rugged beauty of the moors provides a stunning backdrop to an enormous choice of exciting potholes. A favourite with existing members for practising rope skills." *The Trip* The trip will cost £37 and this covers all accommodation, travel, equipment hire and food for the weekend! If you haven't already bought membership for the club, you'll also need to buy that on the union shop before you can purchase the trip fee. We'll set off in one of the union minibuses after lectures on Friday and stop at a supermarket to buy food and booze for the weekend. The drive is long but there'll be bangin' tunes and good company to make the time fly. We'll be staying at a caving hut (a cottage for cavers) in North Yorkshire. The caving cottages have bunk rooms, toilets, a kitchen and showers, as well as somewhere to dry your caving kit. The caving will be in an area called Kingsdale which has lots of caves that are perfect to ease you into using SRT (Single Rope Techniques) underground. There'll also be caving games and other exciting things! Make sure you come to tree training on Wednesday as well so we know you've done all the SRT techniques. Hopefully we managed to convince you to come caving with us. This email is to give you a bit of info on how the club works and if you do want to sign up to any of our trips you’ll get more details about what they entail when you sign up. *COMING UP THIS WEEK* *Tree Training* We will be starting our weekly tree training sessions on Wednesday (3rd) from 12-5pm. This will take place in Princes Gardens - just look for people tangled in ropes in the trees! There’ll be lots of us there to discuss what we do on our weekend trips and just generally chat and answer any questions you have. We’ll be around all afternoon so feel free to come and leave any time – there may be a bit of a wait to get in the trees if everyone is there at the same time! Don’t worry though, there’ll be snacks to eat and caving games to play if there are a lot of you! The tree training will teach you how to use all the necessary caving equipment to go on our later trips involving rope techniques but is not necessary for our fresher's trips to Wales. Come along, there's no obligation to join the club or even go on a trip, just have fun chatting or climbing and abseiling in the (hopefully) sun! *Wales I Sign Ups* Our first trip of the year is THIS WEEKEND (5th-7th Oct)! If you’re interested in coming on the trip you'll need to buy membership here <https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/activities/a-to-z/caving> and then pay for the trip fee (called W1 5th-7th Fresher's). Once you've done this, please come and see us at tree training so you can pack kit or email ic.caving(a)gmail.com to let us know if you can't make it on Wednesday. We'll then give you all the info needed for the trip and arrange for you to come down to caving stores to pack kit before Friday. *GENERAL STUFF* *Pub social meetings* As usual we will be meeting at the FiveSixEight bar from 6pm each Tuesday starting today, it’s a perfect chance to find out more about caving, our club, or sign up for trips. We normally have a muddy caving helmet so you can find us! *Trips* Trips are every two weeks and the two fresher’s trips to Wales cost just £11 for new members. That includes all food, transport, equipment and accommodation. It may even be cheaper to go caving than staying at home. To come on any of our trips you’ll need to buy membership which is £25.
