Hi all,
The Cambridge people are holding their next BBO on Saturday. Details below.
Hi Everyone,
Based on the responses I’ve received, our next BBO session will take place this Saturday 2nd May at 14:00. If we have 4 tables then we will play 12 boards (around 1h 35); If we have 5 tables again then we will play 15 boards (around 2 hours) to complete the movement.
By popular demand, the session on Saturday will be scored using X-IMPs.
If you have not yet filled out the form, you will need to complete it here – https://forms.gle/CaUGRgLWkZNLtvNV9 – before being able to register on the day. Otherwise, everyone else can register as normal on BBO; Again let me know if there are any problems.
I look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday!
Thanks,
William
P.S. So far I have also received interest in team games from Lawrence (lawrence1994(a)gmail.com) and Gabija (gp1g17(a)soton.ac.uk) I will forward on contact details if anyone else would like to play.
Remember to sign up on the Google Form first if you're playing (looking at certain individuals here 👀).
Until next time,
chongyou
Hi all,
Hope everyone is well. Just a few things we'd like to bring to your attention:
1. Unfortunately, we won't be able to hold regular club sessions on BBO in the coming term, mainly due to everybody's schedules (esp. due to exams) and timezone discrepancies. Apologies to everybody who was looking forward to this. However, there's something marginally more exciting coming up (in the next point).
2. Cambridge University Bridge Club is holding Inter-University BBO Games for university students. Details from CUBC's chair:
I am delighted to confirm that our first BBO session will take place on Monday 27th April at 14:00. We will be playing 12 boards using normal matchpoint scoring. You will need a partner to register but please get in touch if you are struggling to find one. To be able to sign up on the day, you will need to first complete this form: https://forms.gle/CaUGRgLWkZNLtvNV9, preferably by Sunday evening.
If you haven’t used BBO, it is free to use and you can access it here: https://www.bridgebase.com/. When you get in, head to Competitive – Free Tournaments and look for my tournament (my username is m00036). You will be able to register up to two hours in advance; Both you and your partner must be logged on. I would strongly recommend logging on and registering in plenty of time to ensure you don’t miss the start time – late entries can’t be added I’m afraid.
To ensure we have another people to make it work, this session will be open to all current members of a university bridge club, so please spread the word and invite anyone else you know who might be interested. Feel free to partner someone at another university (or school) if you want to.
I've also been told that this event will be an afternoon-only affair whenever they decide to hold it, due to BBO restrictions.
3. The club has some digital resources that have been stashed away for the past few years. I've uploaded them onto Microsoft Teams, and you can request to join here<https://teams.microsoft.com/l/team/19%3af8dcfc1bd3fc401683c8e1fc2cbe7678%40…> to view them. If you have e-books or similar and would like to add them to our collection, please let us know.
We're also looking for a suitable display photo for this, so please send in your entries. The winner will (eventually) receive the cheapest jar of passata available on Amazon Fresh, courtesy of the club.
4. If you're otherwise interested in playing more bridge, you might want to find out if your local club is doing BBO tournaments. For example, Young Chelsea in London is holding weekly online tournaments (there's an entry fee for students I think). More details are available on their site<https://www.bridgewebs.com/youngchelsea/> (also there's a great photo of legendary club member Ryan demonstrating his cardplay prowess, so please do have a look).
5. The committee is also working on other projects. More details to come as the term goes on, so be excited!
In the meantime, please continue to stay safe😊. Also, as always, please keep a lookout on any scammers peddling strong pass or myxomatosis twos.
Regards,
chongyou
