Hello all, As I said last week, the position of Head of Music is up for election. Please reply to this email (just to me though, not the whole list) with the name of your preferred candidate. Eamonn Postlethwaite And now for the Manifestos: Kartik Gohil: Hi, my name's Kartik Gohil and music is my life. For the last half a decade, I've been parading around as, what you would call, a bedroom producer. A "guy who makes beats", if you will. I'm constantly on the hunt for new sounds, both popular and underground, as well as taking the time to immerse myself in retro vibes. And it is because of this that I believe I will make a great Head of Music. I've always been open-minded about music. I like to branch out and listen to as many different styles as I can, from the downright bizarreness of Electroacoustic to the most simplest Hip Hop grooves that you can't help but dance to in your kitchen (I can't be the only one who does that!). My wide taste in music partially comes from my philosophy of "music is music", no matter what genre or age, and I enjoy sharing this with other people and introducing them to styles that they might have never even heard of. As Head of Music, I would be able to widen IC Radio's potential audience and I also have some great ideas to perhaps introduce more social events and club nights to attract more students to our society. All in all, I think I would be a great Head of Music if given the opportunity. Thank You. Ronan McAdam: My passion for music was the main reason for joining ICRadio. During my first year, I hosted the Rock n Roll Happy Hour. Each week I would capture the spirit of the 50s, 60s or 70s to reach out to an audience that were unfamiliar with the music. To prepare, I would sort through thirty years of ever-changing music and genres to pick out the best. I loved, and still do love, finding out the stories behind the music, seeing the changes throughout the years and bringing it to an audience. As Assistant Station Manager during my second year, I became familiar and confident with sustain, Rivendell and the station as a whole. The main task of the Head of Music is to listen to all the cd's that ICRadio receive, catalogue songs and update sustain. Far from finding them tedious, I would hugely enjoy all of these tasks. Above all, I want to increase the amount of listeners that we have and this task does not belong to head of promotions alone, but to everyone at ICRadio. Having zero listeners for most of the day and sustain playing out songs on repeat is a huge waste of resources and opportunity. I would play my part by uploading themed playlists for slots during which nobody is on air; rave music late on Friday night, a cheeky bit of funk/disco to get people moving on a Saturday evening? There is so much more music we could and should be sharing and we have plenty of free airtime to do it. Let's use our resources as well as we can, attract more listeners and, something which is close to my heart, play that funky music. Andy Moore: I'm Andy, I run Your Neighbours Will Love This on Mondays at lunchtimes. If you haven't heard it, we basically mix a variety of dance music depending on our moods and tastes from the last week and hope that people listen in! I've loved running a radio show over the last 2 years and definitely want to keep it up and get more involved. The main thing I want to do is run a show playing exclusively tracks from the post that comes to the studio. It sounds like a lot of fun and it would show labels that we are grateful for their contributions as well as giving the audience a truly up-and-coming set of tunes! I'd try to have a look through sustain and weed out the shit nobody wants as well as seeing about the possibility of monitoring the genres/tags so that music of a similar type plays within say, an hour slot. In terms of the music that's already in the studio, I agree that we should digitalise the catalogue for ease of access. Might be a bit of work but surely the kind of thing I can do whilst half watching TV. Eamonn Postlethwaite: My name is Eamonn and I'd like to put myself forward for Head of Music for ICRadio because I love it to bits and would like to offer something back to such a friendly and enthusiastic society. I am only a measly first year but notwithstanding illness/exams I have broadcast every Monday since the beginning of the year and have grown to love being down in the radio suite, so having to spend time down there in a more official capacity won't be a problem. I would resurrect the music blog on the website and use my position to blag free tickets/samplers for as much music as possible and fill it with reviews [from me and anyone who is interested] of gigs, albums, singles, or anything anyone has a radio-based interest in.
