Hey everyone, Sorry for the radio silence! It has been a hectic couple months for everyone. Just got a few important notices looking ahead to the summer and next year, plus a couple reflections on the past year of IC Radio. It’s now that time of year when we need to elect next year’s committee. We are holding the IC Radio AGM on Wednesday 21stJune, 18:00, location Blackett Postgrad Common Room (level 8). Please come along at least to vote, if not to nominate yourself for a position. Committee positions: All committee roles are available, as listed below, and it is possible to run jointly for any position. Feel free to contact any current committee member with questions about their role. * Station manager (Andy and Ariel) * Treasurer (Kareena) * Secretary (Sophie) * IT manager (Ben) * Technical manager (Tom) * Production studio manager (Dami) * Head of Discos / Modulate (Spencer and Elliott) * Social Sec (Chelsea and Kareena) * Publicity Officer (Chelsea) * Head of Programming (scheduling) (Burton) * Head of Music (Gijs and Philipp) * Webmaster (Theo) * Head of Training (vacant) * Plus assistant roles for all managers can be created Summer Studio Rules: The studio remains open for use throughout the summer. Our regular show bookings will remain until the new academic year. The booking form will not be regularly monitored, and new show bookings will not be accepted. Some one-off bookings may be available. Please maintain the usual standards around the studio. We have seen these fall over the last few weeks and last year we had to close the studio due to the mess. * No food or drinks allowed in the studio. Please use the adjoined shared studio (photography studio) instead. * Please do not remove equipment from the studio without explicit consent from a committee member. Especially the headphones! Please be considerate and respectful as it is a shared space with expensive equipment that we can’t afford to replace. We would really like to keep the studio open and continue to broadcast IC Radio over the summer. X drive reminder: As Ben mentioned on the Whatsapp chat, please save any recordings on the ‘recordings’ X drive on the studio PC - NOT the C drive. Any files saved locally will be deleted due to low storage capacity. Finally, from everyone on committee - thank you all for a brilliant year!! Theo has worked out some fun stats to reflect on the year: in total people tuned in to IC Radio for over 6200 hours and at the peak there were 70 listeners! Well done everyone for hosting some great shows! And of course, we can’t forget the two amazing Modulates we held this year, with some superb DJ sets! You can catch the IC Radio DJs performing at the Summer Ball and at the after party in the Union bar! At least half of the current committee are graduating this year. So, I wanted to end with a massive thank you to Andy, Ariel, Ben, Spencer, Philip, and Gijs!! And Theo and Tom, who have continued to help out after graduating last year. These guys brought IC Radio back to life last year and they are leaving us with a super society to continue to grow - broadcasting and disco-ing on! Hey everyone, Just wanted to share some information from the Careers Service with you all. The Careers service have organised a set of three events about careers in Science Communication, Science Policy and Medical Communication. The events are hour long, lunchtime sessions delivered by people who work in these areas who will talk about their experiences and will give you a chance of ask questions and network. Science Communication and Policy with the Institute of Cancer Research (in-person event) * What’s it like to work in Science Policy? In this talk, Dr Abigail Bloy will share her experience in the field with some practical advice for those interested. Hi everyone!! As first term has finally drawn to an end, it's a good time to review what’s happened this term and update you all on what is coming up next term! We started off with Beer ‘n Biscuits at the Union. If you missed this ICRadio classic don’t worry, we will be hosting another round at the start of next term!! This term saw the launch of an ICRADIO TIKTOK! Thank you, Kareena, for gen Z-ifying our socials. Give @icradio a follow to find out what imperial students are listening to! Modulate returned to Metric with great groovy success!! Thank you to everyone who came along. The ICRadio djs will be back next term with more funky beats!! The studio refurb is beginning to come together. The Union have finally removed the shelves and cool crocodilian art is on its way!! Finally, a note on scheduling. If you can't continue your show next term, please can you let Burton know so your slot can be reassigned. We are considering starting some rotating slots to give more people the opportunity to get on the air. We will be announcing the winner of the Reggie (mascot) photo competition at the social, and on our social medias. Studio Orientations/Sign-ups Thank you to those who came to yesterday’s studio orientation. If you didn’t manage to get a spot this week, don’t worry! Studio orientations run every Tuesday and Thursday evening. Meet a committee member outside West Basement at 18:00. You don’t need membership to go to an orientation, but you will need it to access the studio using the key card. Hey everyone, Hope you have had a good first week of term! Here’s the radio start of year info. Studio Orientations We are running studio orientations twice weekly at 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting on Thursday 13th October. One of our committee members will take you on a tour of the studio and explain how the equipment works. You do not need membership to attend, but you do need to sign up on this spreadsheet<https://imperiallondon-my.sharepoint.com/:x:/g/personal/ssm221_ic_ac_uk/ESx…> before. Meet outside West Basement at 18:00 (see map below). Accessing the studio and the key list To access the studio, you need the physical key card which you can collect from Beit Security Office (see map below). Once you buy membership<https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/shop/csp/radio/radio-membership-22-23> your name will be put on the key list. It takes about a week for the list to update so buy membership ASAP! The Union have been tricky about this in the past, so please bear with us whilst they sort themselves out. We recommend showing up 10min before your slot in case of issues. There is a map of West Basement below to help you find the studio – you go down the stairs, straight down the corridor and it’s on the left. So just fill that out to book a slot and wait for an email confirmation. The schedule will be cleared so everyone needs to book, old and new alike, but priority will be given to old shows. Later in the term we are going to swap to a new booking system! *Beer and Biscuits* We are kicking the year off with our traditional social – Beer and Biscuits!! Due to freshers madness and union issues, it has been rescheduled to Monday 17th October. Come find us at the Union Bar from 19:00!!! Finally, the winner of the mascot photo competition will be announced on our Instagram just in time for Beer and Biscuits on Monday.
