ICRadio Training

Hi Guys Thanks to all that came to Beer and Biscuits. I had a great time and I hope you did too! Now as some of you may already know, if you are new, BEFORE you can request your show, you NEED to have training. I will be doing this over the next week, but you HAVE to sign up for whatever sessions you can make. The google form to fill in what sessions you can do is here: http://goo.gl/forms/KDNhEU9x3d Please fill this in before Sunday as is need to create a schedule. You will soon after get an email from me confirming when your session will be. Turn up and I will train you. Please help us get better card access to media rooms by reading this

Dear all When the West Basement was refurbished, we were assured that people would get access to the rooms they needed through their IC college cards. This has NOT happened, and instead each media society has a single key card they log out of the porter's lodge. While that works for the Radio Studio, it means no-one has access e.g. to the media hub to download music on Rivendell while the studio is in use, which is deeply frustrating. If you have experienced any problems at all in the past, we have been asked by Henry, Head of Media, to send him emails (media.chair(a)imperial.ac.uk<mailto:media.chair@imperial.ac.uk>) asking for better access by this Tuesday 20th Oct, as he has a meeting about it, and is repeatedly told that no-one else is complaining! In case it helps, I have pasted a general email below that you could use or adapt, or just send your own. We need to change this now, to make the year easier, and this is your chance - it will only take a few seconds! If you belong to >1 media club, please mention those too and issues you've experienced. Thanking you for your support Neil (on behalf of the Radio Exec) _________________ (Subject) Lack of access to Media Hub in West Basement is disruptive to IC Radio's activities Dear Henry I am e-mailing you to inform you that I have been inconvenienced by the key card system used to enter the West Basement in the following way. IC Radio members need access to other rooms, in particular the Media Hub and the store room, while the key card is held by the occupant of the Radio Studio, and this is currently not possible unless someone else happens to be in the hub. I understand that it is actually possible to set up a system that allows me to enter the West Basement with my normal uni key card, just as we have differential access throughout the rest of college. This would be both easier for us, and more secure, and I would like to know why it has not been implemented yet. Thank you & best regards, [Your name]

Welcome back to Radio!

Hello and welcome back to Radio! I hope you all had a fun yet productive summer and you're all excited to start the new year. This email will be relatively long, but do bear with me as there is a lot of information in here that I am sure you will find useful. Firstly a massive thank you to everybody that helped out on Tuesday - we ended up getting over 80 emails despite being hidden away in UCH. Hopefully we'll have even more fresher's coming along to Beer and Biscuits on THURSDAY 15th at 7PM in RSM. It would still be great to see all of you there, if not just for the free beer, biscuits AND pizza, but also to chat to the fresher's to get them excited about doing radio! PROGRAMMES If you are planning on doing (or starting!) another show this year then you MUST request it, and quickly. To do so then please email Rob, our head of programming (programming(a)icradio.com) and you should get a show slot that's good for you. Remember that of course, in order to do a show you must have membership, so if you haven't already, please do buy it (https://goo.gl/Hj7BCQ) TALK FROM GARETH MITCHELL - 29/10/15 For those of you that haven't already heard, on the 29th of October, the BBC Click Radio presenter, Gareth Mitchell will be giving us a talk. After the lecture we'll all be heading to the union as a society which I'm sure will have plenty of radio-based, and non-radio chat involved. It should prove to be an insightful and fun evening, so please do come along! SOCIAL MEDIA This year we are really pushing to get our social media presence noticed - it draws more listeners to the station, which means more people hearing the words you say and the music you play! If you haven't already then please do "like" us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/icradio) and follow us on Twitter (twitter.com/IC_Radio) When you're doing your show, do promote it on any platform you like! You should have access to both of the above accounts, so feel free to say that you're on air, what you're doing etc etc - just one post on Facebook creates an extra 1000 potential listeners (just don't say anything too contreversial). A more active social media presence also means that people are more likely to notice us and listen - which is beneficial to everybody! One last thing; the studio has been nominated for an SRA! This is great news, and means that soon you may be producing/presenting a show from an award winning studio. Congratulations to everybody that was involved with the development of the new studio.
