IMPORTANT - Big Elections Rules

Hi, The union's Big Elections are coming up and it's important you know how this affects your show. 1) We're predominantly funded by the union - therefore it's not right to use IC Radio as a platform to promote candidates above others - we have to be impartial 2) Before campaigning begins - do not mention any names of people who may or may not be running. This may be considered campaigning, and it makes bad things happen 3) After campaigning begins - 3rd March - any mention of a candidate for any of the positions<https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/big-elections-2014/positions> must be followed with a mention of all the other candidates for that position 4) Any invitations to candidates to attend a show, should be extended to everyone running for that position, with 48 hours notice. *I must be told, and give approval to, any show doing this with 48 hours notice too* *5) There must be no personal slurs/attacks/libel/gossip against any of the candidates at any time by anyone. *This pf course goes for any other broadcast as well Questions: 1) I'm *standing for a position,* can I mention this? Yes, but you must also mention everyone else who is standing for the position. You can do your show without inviting everyone else on though as you can continue anything you already do. 2) My show's* never going to make any difference* anyway! Maybe, but if someone complains and we have broken the rules, the candidate you supported is likely to have their campaign stopped 3) Oh no! I think I've* already broken the rules.* What do I do? Don't worry, email me and we'll have the show taken off the website. 4) This is all a bit *over the top?* No, last year one of the Felix candidates has their campaign stopped (after a rule breach that took down College's email system) and the year before the entire Union's website was taken down because of a (non elections related) radio broadcast. 5) I don't understand, can I check the rules? Yes, email myself or the returning officers on elections(a)imperial.ac.uk 6) I really want to talk about the elections - but I don't want to muck up. Hi, *Thursday 13th March - Radio's AGM - 7 o'clock - shared studio (next door to radio studio) - FREE FOOD AND DRINK* This is the most important night of the year for radio and please please please, put the date in your diary and make the effort to *come along*. Bring your show co-hosts and enjoy our free food and have your say in our the station is run next year. *It's like Beer and Biscuits, but with more food*. This is the last ever event in the West Basement as we know it! I also want to encourage you to consider standing for a role on the committee. It is a unique opportunity to learn more about the radio industry, music industry, broadcast tech, finance/accounting, party organising, management, training and much more. I have had an unbelieveably fun year helping to run ICRadio.com and I know the rest of the committee has done so to. I will not be standing for Station Manager this year, so hopefully some of you will be considering running for that! We're students, enthusiasm and a desire to learn is more important than experience - I ran for station manager after just a few months in radio. The schedule of events and our coverage is below, and it's super important that you all plug our main event, the 24 hour broadcast, as much as you can. Weekly Announce: SRA Conference & Varisty

SRA CONFERENCE The Student Radio Association Annual Conference is happening from the 7th - 9th April, in Newcastle University. There'll be guest speakers and the opportunity to network with people from student radio stations around the country. As it stands, some of the committee are planning to go and would welcome keen members to join them. It is definitely worth considering if you love your radio and want to make contacts in the industry and with like-minded people. Ticket prices will be subsidised. Get back to me this week if you are interested. VARSITY Fancy getting some live, in-the-field (literally) commentating experience? ICRadio are collaborating with STOIC for the live coverage of this years Varsity Rugby match on Wednesday 12th March. Also, a field production team is also required to help with the equipment set-up. Sound Engineering Course moved to Blackett 539 - 6:30pm tonight

Hi all - The sound engineering course has moved to Blackett Room 539, just across the road from the *Union on Blackett (Physics) Level 5, still at 6:30. *You'll need swipe-card access to Huxley/Blackett, or you can just try follow someone in. I'll have someone to let people in at the main door on Prince Consort Road at 6:25-6:30, but drop me a text or phone on 07728212303 and I'll send someone down if you're late. If you're still interested, but can't make it this time, please drop me an email so I can keep you on the list! The structure for tonight: I'm going to you a brief introduction to the current facilities (and the future plans) in our studio, and the procedure for booking it and using it. Then I'll give you a whirlwind introduction to sound engineering, microphones, techniques, etc; and there'll be a sign-up sheet where you'll be able to sign up in small groups to record bands over the next few weeks, where one of the current Production Team will be supervising - and then you'll get free reign to record whoever and whatever you like. Jingle Workshop, #icRAGdio, AGM & Redevelopment

Hi, *Jingle Workshop* We're running a jingle workshop on* Wednesday at 1 o'clock* in the shared studio (the room next to the regular one). It's a great chance to record a brand new set of jingles for your show, learn a bit of how recording works and maybe feature in some new station jingles. Come along with ideas, and a laptop and/or a memory stick with sounds you like from freesound.org. If you can, email me before to say you're coming! *AGM* Save the date - this year's radio AGM is being held on *Thursday the 13th March* in the shared studio. It's the big annual meeting where we will elect next year's committee and this year's theme is 'Drinks and Delicacies' . It will be the last ever event in the basement - so don't miss it! More information on how to/why you should stand will follow. *Redevelopment* Want to help with the £100 000 redevelopment of the West Basement? Want to help leave a lasting legacy at the union? Hi all, Just a reminder that ICRadio is going to socialise and eat chicken (or something else that they serve at Nandos...) at Nandos this evening and it'd be great if you could all come. It doesn't matter if you've done 10000 shows or 0, if you're interested in radio this'll be a great chance to chat about both radio-related and non-radio-related things. We're meeting at 6:30pm outside the (soon to be redeveloped) west basement entrance and then we'll walk round to Nandos.
