Hey,

Hope you're all enjoying an amazing holiday, and that the weather where you
are is better than where I am, which is camping in the middle of a school
field in Devon (don't ask)... Not too much fun during thunderstorms, and
there isn't even wifi! Not cool.

Just a quick (but important) note about the computers in IC Radio. You may
have noticed that almost all of the computers and servers in Radio have been
replaced over the last year, and we're about to switch over to even more
newer servers so everything will work a lot better, wheyyy!

However... During this year's switchover the function of some of the
desktop computers in the station has changed, and the office computers in
front of you as you walk in do essentially function as servers. By the
looks of it, one of these (the one closest to the whiteboard) has been
switched off over the past few days, which is annoying as there is no way to
switch it back on from 200 miles away!

Please could everyone avoid shutting down or restarting any of the computers
or machines in the radio station as they are all meant to be on all the time
and switching them off can have disastrous consequences - in this case, our
icecast stream metadata (which is usually updated every couple of minutes)
has displayed incorrect data for a couple of days and will continue to
during people's shows! And a while ago I even went into the studio and
found that the Rivendell computer (dual touch screen studio PC) had been
switched off, LOL.

So - even if you think a computer is not running properly and should be
restarted, please always check with me first - call/txt 07743261022. And if
anyone is going to the station over the next couple of days, please could
you see if anyone else has switched the Linux (left-hand) office computer on
yet and if not, please could you just hit the power switch? It will
probably boot up without a screensaver so once it's switched on, please
could you leave the monitor off.

Thanks, sorry for the rant, and enjoy the rest of your Summer!

Chris
