This is necessary to prepare for the x509 to token transition (see [1] if you are interested, but note that this will not impact end users until ~2025) and as the version we are using will go out of support in the foreseeable future. What does this mean for you ? As this is a major upgrade we cannot guarantee that jobs that are in a non-final state will survive, though we will try. If there is something that is very dear to you, you might want to ensure it has finished before we start. The upgrade will proceed in the following order: - Server upgrade - Web interface upgrade - cvmfs UI upgrade - cloud interface (in case of problems only) v8.0 is a python3 only release. No python-2 UIs will be supported. If this poses a problem for you, please let us (or even better the list) know and we will try to help. We have tested the new release version extensively on our various pre-prod servers, so we do not expect any major problems. The upgrade will start at 11:00 am and we expect the server to be back within the hour, but the upgrade of the other components might take longer. We will keep the list updated on our progress. If you are maintaining your own DIRAC UI you will need to upgrade your UI afterwards, as unfortunately for a major release change there is no backwards compatibility. The upgrade procedure will not be significantly different to any previous DIRAC UI installs you may have done. We will supply instructions as usual. Note that you cannot pre-emptively upgrade your UI, so please don't try ;-) Please let me know if you have any questions and/or if this date is the worst possible date for the upgrade we could have picked.
