All, Once again I am failing to install petsc at all when I try to install firedrake. I’m including the firedrake install log. Thanks, Beth Beth Wingate b.wingate@exeter.ac.uk<mailto:b.wingate@exeter.ac.uk> The world is but a canvas to the imagination - Thoreau

Thanks, there was a bug in petsc configure which I reported, but I hadn't updated our branch pointer to incorporate the fix. If you try again now (wiping the firedrake directory first), I hope it should work. Lawrence
Great! I've followed your advice and pets got a lot further this time. I'm attaching the output file from the screen. I think this is a breakage due to incompatible updates that mercurial pushed out. Can you do: $ hg version If that works successfully, what about: $ hg clone https://bitbucket.org/eigen/eigen/ Thanks, Lawrence
That worked. Should I run firedrake-update? No, it turns out this is a more difficult issue. Somehow the current version of Eigen which PETSc wants to download fails to install properly, which causes the error. I will report a bug upstream and get back to the list when things are likely to be working again. Cheers, Lawrence

I am also having this issue with PETSc failing on --download-eigen on my local cluster. Is having Eigen necessary if I just want to solve a simple poisson equation on extruded meshes? Or will firedrake fail to install properly without it? On Fri, Apr 7, 2017 at 8:33 AM, Wingate, Beth <B.Wingate@exeter.ac.uk> wrote:

It should only be necessary for hybridisation I think. I have reported a bug to petsc-maint so hopefully will have this fixed in a day or two. Lawrence
