Logging this here for reference. The problem was apparently a corrupted pip cache. Removing ~/.cache/pip solved the problem.

I’m attempting to install Firedrake on a remote Ubuntu workstation. Unfortunately I have not been successful. I’m not quite sure what I need to do to fix this. I have attached the log with this email.
