[FILM-Users 00627] scratch spring cleaning this friday
Dear all, Scratch is again full of old data. We will delete data older than 2 weeks on Friday 15th of April. Please make sure you have removed your data and stored it safely on your own storage or lab storage space. Data can only be stored on the acquisition machine for up to 3 months, and scratch should only be used to transfer data, not store it as data can be deleted at any point. It is your responsibility as a user to ensure your data is safe and stored. Funders require that original research data be stored for several years, that means microscopy images as well. External hard-drives are not safe, they can fall, they can break, they can be stolen. Existing data storage solutions are: - for microscopy data, OMERO server<http://www.imperial.ac.uk/bioinformatics-support-service/resources/software/omero/> can be used to store images, open them, annotate them, share them or even publish them. Maintenance of the server (including backup of the data) is done by the Bioinformatics Support Services from which "group storage space" for microscopy images can be purchased. Contact the BSS (bsshelp@imperial.ac.uk<mailto:bsshelp@imperial.ac.uk> )for an account or more details. - The BSS also provides storage and archiving options - more information on the BSS webpage<http://www.imperial.ac.uk/bioinformatics-support-service/resources/hardware/> - You can find more information on data storage options on the ICT page<http://www.imperial.ac.uk/admin-services/ict/self-service/research-support/management-of-research-data/>. If you have any questions regarding data storage or management within FILM, let us know.
