Dear Colleagues,

Apologies for the mass email but I’d appreciate if you could please forward the attached advert for a UK-MRC funded post-doc project available in my laboratory to any talented finishing PhD students or junior post-doctoral researchers that you know are looking for a job and interested in intracellular transport and cytoskeleton research.

With thanks and best wishes,

Alistair

Research Fellow in Molecular & Cellular Biology

£27,428 per annum

Applications are invited for the above post to support an MRC funded project investigating the role of the molecular motor Myosin Va in organelle transport.

Motor proteins play a critical role in regulating fundamental physiological processes of intracellular transport. Indeed, motor protein dysfunction has been linked to common diseases including some forms of cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, motor neuron disease, deafness, blindness and Alzheimer’s disease. This project aims to better understand the mechanisms by which class V myosin motors (Myosin Va) regulate transport in living cells. The project will employ a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques as well as live cell imaging and analysis to address this issue.

The project will be undertaken in newly refurbished and equipped laboratories within the School of Biomedical Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Nottingham, which boasts world-class facilities in which to carry out research.

Candidates should possess a PhD, or equivalent, in Molecular Cell Biology or a closely allied field and have experience in standard molecular biology techniques, cell culture, light microscopy and image analysis.  They should be highly self-motivated and enthusiastic, have excellent time management, organisational and communication skills and have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

This full-time post is available from 1 October 2011 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2014.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Alistair Hume email: alistair.hume@nottingham.ac.uk or Mrs H Martin, tel 0115 823 0101, email: hilary.martin@nottingham.ac.uk Please note that applications sent directly to these email addresses will not be accepted.
