Dear FILM users, We are offering a workshop with Alexandre Dufour on the image analysis software ICY and I would strongly encourage you to participate, especially if you are thinking of doing image-based screening or have to analyse loads of images. What: Icy (icy.bioimageanalysis.org ) is an open-source software for 2D/3D image acquisitaion, visualisation and analysis that can be used for particle localisation / tracking / colocalisation, cell segmentation and tracking, etc. It also integrates with imageJ/Fiji and other softwares (Matlab, Python). It is already being used for high content image analysis (e.g screens) by several labs at imperial. Programme: * Level 1: The basics (graphical user interface, website, image manipulation, searching, installing & using plug-ins) * Level 2: Automation (Macros, batch processing and assisted scripting) When: - Wednesday 14th January 9:30 - 12:30: Icy Level 1 - basics - Friday 16th January 9:30 - 12:30: Icy level 2 - automation Where: Central Library South Kensington, Training Room 2 (Level 1, Wolsfson Suite). The room has computers on which the program will be installed, but you are welcome to bring your own computer (installation requirements are below). Registration procedure: This course is limited to 20 participants. - Before registering for the training, you first need to create a personal account on the website icy.bioimageanalysis.org (via the "Register" link at the top of the page). - You will receive a validation email within the next 30 min. In case you don't receive the confirmation email within a few minutes (30 tops), it might have be filtered by Imperial College's SPAM system, which you can access here: http://spam.imperial.ac.uk<http://spam.imperial.ac.uk/> - Once you have validated your new account (via a verification email), you will be able to log into the website, and then access the registration system (by clicking on "Register to training"). Make sure you pick the right date & location, as there might be trainings all around! Make sure you register for either or both training sessions! Note that no confirmation email is sent when you register for a training (a green label indicates you are registered). Cheers Debbi Installation notes: * Download the latest version from icy.bioimageanalysis.org IMPORTANT: download and extract the program in a folder where you have administrator rights. If you have a public machine (college computer) and are unsure, you can extract the program on your H drive (it will need only 150 Mb but make sure to have enough free space for images et al) * Oracle Java Virtual Machine 64 bits, Version 6 or later (for Mac OS: Version 6 recommended; for Linux: OpenJDK is also supported but some features may be missing). Installation requires administrator privileges (refer to IT department to have this installed before the training) * The Icy folder contained in the downloaded archive must be fully extracted before use. This folder can be placed anywhere on the computer, but users need permanent write access to this folder to install future plug-ins.
