...and another microscopy-related job opportunity below, and again in an interesting place - the former (intensive) FILM user and PhD student Giulia Bolasco is running the imaging facility there now.

Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked
scientific research organizations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in
Heidelberg (Germany) and the outstations are in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany),
Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

We are looking for a very qualified and motivated individual to fill a post-doctoral
researcher position in the Lancrin group working on the cellular origin of blood cells
during mouse embryogenesis at EMBL Monterotondo, Italy. Using genetic approaches
coupled with embryonic stem (ES) cell differentiation and generation of mouse model,
we plan to identify and study the genes responsible for the generation of the first blood
progenitors during embryonic life. Our aim is to gain a better understanding of the cell
fate decisions leading to the production of the first hematopoietic cells and to use this
knowledge to improve methods of blood cells generation from ES Cell or induced
Pluripotent Stem Cell.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in developmental biology, molecular biology, or
mouse biology. Candidates with experience in ES cell culture, flow cytometry and
microscopy will be preferred. An interest in hematopoiesis is highly desirable. The
candidate should be able to demonstrate the capacity to run a project independently.
Fluency in English, good communication and interpersonal skills, excellent
organizational skills and the ability to work as part of an international team are required.
The candidate will benefit of the state of the art EMBL core facilities as well as its
stimulating and interdisciplinary environment.

For informal inquiry please contact Dr Christophe Lancrin: christophe.lancrin@embl.it.
