Additional to my message from yesterday:

If you are using microscopes today or, under exceptional circumstances, in the coming days:
Make sure the microscope completely switched off after your session! Do not rely on the next user turning up, as sessions might be cancelled or not taken up. If you have booked and do not use the session, you would need to check and make sure
that the system was not left on for you by the previous user.

All training sessions and imaging sessions planned by staff are cancelled until further notice.

Today (18/03) should only be for safely shutting down the labs, we will not be on site.

From Tomorrow (19/03)
only essential experiments, such as animal experiments that have already been initiated or those with vital cell lines and cultures/clinical samples already in culture (or similar) should be performed. As I understand, this activity would need the
permission of the head of department and would fall under strict lone working policy (if you would be alone at the microscope). There will be very few people around and we are in the middle of a viral epidemic so it is possible that some may start
to feel ill while at work.

Please cancel all future sessions which do not fall under these categories.

FILM will follow the NHLI guidance (see below) regarding COVID-19:
FILM staff will work from home, or remotely, from tomorrow where we can.
Please contact us using email if you need help.
Those needing to safely shut down laboratories should aim to work remotely by Thursday of this week.
The only exception after that will be for essential activity that needs to be completed, such as
animal experiments that have already been initiated, maintenance of vital cell lines and cultures/clinical samples already in culture. No new experiments should be started at present. If you think your work should be an exception,
please seek approval through your PI/supervisor and Head of Section. You must of course follow the usual protocols for lone working.

Dear NHLI,
Following yesterday’s Government advice and the all College communication from Alice and Ian, I would like confirm that all our community at NHLI should now be moving to remote working with minimal activity on campus.
I know that preparations for this have already been underway for some time, so thank you for all your efforts so far.
We are asking everyone to work from home, or remotely, from tomorrow where they can. Those needing to safely shut down laboratories should aim to work remotely by Thursday of this week. The only exception after that

This is a very difficult time and we must all support each other. I therefore urge you to communicate as much as possible whilst working remotely. Please set up regular group research meetings and journal clubs, student
supervision calls, management and research meetings through Microsoft Teams, Skype or similar, not forgetting calls just to catch up, share experiences and provide moral support. Best practice for working from home will follow.
Please don’t feel isolated and be aware we still have our team of Mental Health First Aiders available and access to Confidential Care.
Please contact your supervisor or line manager if you have any concerns, and also regularly look at the College COVID-19 webpages which are updated frequently. The latest Government advice on who should self-isolate
can be found online.
