Dear microscopists, in the FILM CLUB next Friday (18 Jan 2011, 1pm, SAFB 121) myself and Mark Woodbridge / Chris Tomlinson will introduce the OMERO image database, which is now tested, running and ready for use - and even completely free of charge! Over the last two years, FILM in collaboration with the Bioinformatics Support Service (Mark and Chris) have been busy with installation, testing and feedback to the developers, now we can finally announce that the OMERO Image Database is ready and available for you to use. This database allows a complete workflow for image data storage, annotation and documentation, analysis and visualisation: * original image data from the different microscopes are imported into OMERO, and both the image content (pixels) and the metadata (microscope, objective, magnification, filters, etc.) are extracted and stored in the database * irrespective of the original file type, images and metadata are stored in a standardised format (based on OME-TIFF) * images are stored on a central, backed-up server and accessible from everywhere * images, movies, 3D stacks and XYZT series can be visualised with various rendering settings * datasets can be annotated and searched * images can be shared with other people * images, search results and summaries can be exported Already the export of various microscopy data in the standardised OME-TIFF format makes use and exchange of analysis tools far easier. We will also talk about our plans to streamline the workflow from acquisition to analysis and visualisation, e.g. directly linking OMERO to image analysis in Definiens or ImageJ, streaming data from Leica microscopes directly onto the server, integration with Chris' XperimentR etc. Links for further information can be found on our NEWS website <http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/imagingfacility/news> Good imaging, Martin ########################################################## Martin Spitaler, PhD FILM - Facility for Imaging by Light Microscopy - Facility Manager - Sir Alexander Fleming Building, desk 401 Imperial College London / South Kensington Exhibition Road London SW7 2AZ UK Tel. +44-(0)20-759-42023 E-mail m.spitaler@imperial.ac.uk Website: http://imperial.ac.uk/imagingfacility
