Details: The ESRIC Summer School is a five-day residential course held in Edinburgh during the world-renowned Edinburgh Festival. The course is designed to give participants a thorough grounding in super-resolution microscopy in an informal and intimate setting. It brings together leading academics and the major suppliers of super-resolution microscopes to provide expertise and guidance in structured illumination microscopy (SIM), stimulated emission depletion microscopy (STED), AiryScan Microscopy and single molecule localization microscopies (PALM, sptPALM and dSTORM). The summer school will include informal lectures on the theory of these approaches, the benefits and limitations of each technology and how they can be applied to real world biological research questions. A diverse range of fluorescent labels will also be used, which will include various fluorescent proteins (CFP, GFP and YFP) and classic antibody labels. Over the four days, at least four confocal microscopes (Zeiss LSM 510/710/780/880 on both an invert and upright microscopes, Andor Revolution XD) will be utilised. Accommodation (en-suite), breakfast and lunches will be provided for the length of the course. Evening meals will be provided on both Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
