Film Description: Japanese psychological thriller following a Tokyo detective investigating a bizarre series of murders. Every killing’s committed by a different person, but each victim has in common a large “X” carved into their body. The
film’s exploration of evil, psychology, and banal violence is made more engaging by its restrained editing and haunting sound design. Writer-director Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s 1997 film was hailed as one of the best of all time by Bong Joon-Ho (“Parasite”). Though
it’s not quite your typical horror, the film is considered to have triggered the boom in J-Horror films in the late nineties and noughties.
