This Week: Eddie the Eagle

This is it! We've made it: it's our last showing of this year, and my last as chair. Eddie the Eagle is a great film, and is "inspired by true events" in the finest traditions of the film industry. Regardless, a great feel-good film of Olympic achievement to top off the year.

Want to try your hand at running a cinema? Come along to one of our regular screenings (yes, the ones listed below) about 45 minutes before the times listed below, and head into the Concert Hall - we'll be there, just come and say hi! This is pretty much your last opportunity this academic year, but it's still not too late to get involved if you're interested. We're always happy to see new faces.

- Luke, signing off for the last time as Cinema Chair 15/16

Inspired by true events, Eddie the Eagle is a feel-good story about Michael "Eddie" Edwards (Taron Egerton), an unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself - even as an entire nation was counting him out. With the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach (played by Hugh Jackman), Eddie takes on the establishment and wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making an improbable and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.
