You might notice a thing or two different this year. The cinema has just had a major refurbishment including a brand new screen and sound system to make our films look and sound better than ever. But many things haven't changed. We've still got a fantastic selection of films, the prices are still the same, and you can still buy a season ticket <http://tickets.imperialcinema.co.uk> to get into all our regular weekly showings this term even cheaper (just £1.25 a film). Starting this Tuesday and Thursday, we've got a freshers week double bill (once again including free ice-cream) of *How to Train Your Dragon 2* and *X-Men: Days of Future Past*. If you'd like to *get involved* with running the cinema, now's your chance. Whether expert or novice, we're always looking for help with projection, publicity, software & hardware development or just generally helping out. No experience is needed - we'll train you up when you arrive. Sounds ridiculous, is ridiculous, and is possibly the best film of the year for it. Directed by James Gunn. Starring Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper. Poster Godzilla *Tuesday* 14th October @ *21:00* *Thursday* 16th October @ *18:30* Everyone's favourite city-destroying lizard finally gets the treatment he deserves, in a reboot that pays homage to the original films while also daring to do its own thing as director Gareth Edwards steps up from his indie debut in style. Directed by Gareth Edwards. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston. Poster Edge of Tomorrow *Tuesday* 21st October @ *18:30* *Thursday* 23rd October @ *21:00* Tom Cruise's best film in years takes the likes of Saving Private Ryan, Source Code, Starship Troopers and Groundhog Day, shoves them in a futuristic blender, and emerges as an utterly compelling sci-fi epic with performances, visuals, and a story to die for. Poster The Fault in Our Stars *Tuesday* 21st October @ *20:45* *Thursday* 23rd October @ *18:30* The enormously popular book gets a big-screen adaptation, with an enormously talented cast dedicated to bringing the heart-wrenching story to life. Expect tears. Then expect a few more. Directed by Josh Boone. Starring Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Nat Wolff. Poster Maleficent *Tuesday* 28th October @ *18:30* *Thursday* 30th October @ *21:45* Disney engages in a spot of what could only be called fictional historical revisionism, re-telling the story of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of its villain, played gloriously by Angelina Jolie in this live-action tale. Sumptuous visuals and a new take on a classic story: what more do you need? Directed by Robert Stromberg. Starring Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley. Poster Boyhood *Tuesday* 28th October @ *20:30* *Thursday* 30th October @ *18:30* Easily one of the boldest cinematic undertakings of all time, Boyhood was filmed over 12 years, chronicling the story of one boy from six to eighteen. A moving look at just what it means to grow up, a piercing examination of broken families, a nostalgia trip for lost youth: read into it what you will. It'll still be incredible. Directed by Richard Linklater. Starring Ellar Coltrane, Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke. Poster The Inbetweeners 2 *Tuesday* 4th November @ *18:30* *Thursday* 6th November @ *21:00* The boys are back for one last trip. A more cinematic outing for the group, from a beloved-film-series-spoofing opening to its excruciating central set-piece, seeing them head over to Australia in search of something better than the misery of university life. Whether they find it or not, it's still a hilarious ride. Directed by Damon Beesley, Iain Morris. Starring Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison. Poster 22 Jump Street *Tuesday* 4th November @ *20:30* *Thursday* 6th November @ *18:30* Troublemakers-in-chief Schmidt and Jenko are back - and this time, they're going to college. After the previous film's undercover high-school exploits somehow proved successful, it's time to do it all over again - with even more comedy. As self-aware as they come, and still as funny, the Jump Street boys do it again. Directed by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller. Starring Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube. Poster The Dark Knight (2008) *Monday* 10th November @ *19:00* This term's Chair's Choice sees the return of the second entry in Christopher Nolan's acclaimed Batman trilogy, featuring Heath Ledger's unforgettable, Oscar-winning performance as the Joker. A true masterpiece that proved, once and for all, that comic book adaptations are here to stay. Directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart. Poster Sin City: A Dame to Kill For *Tuesday* 11th November @ *19:00* *Thursday* 13th November @ *19:00* Ten years on, it's time to head back into the murky depths of Basin City, for another grimy dose of noir-tinged comic book mayhem courtesy of Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez. An even bigger cast - with newcomers including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green (as the eponymous dame) and Josh Brolin - unite to bring four more stories of life and death to the big screen, all in the unique style that made the first film such a success. Poster Dawn of the Planet of the Apes *Tuesday* 18th November @ *19:00* *Thursday* 20th November @ *19:00* The second entry in the prequel/reboot series sees a world ravaged by the virus unleashed at the end of the previous film. Human civilisation has collapsed, with only a few pockets of survivors left to struggle on. The apes have retreated into the forests, nurturing their own fledgling society, but a chance encounter gone wrong, and rebellious factions amongst both apes and humans threatens to spiral into all-out war.
