The second entry in the prequel/reboot series sees a world ravaged by the virus unleashed at the end of the previous film. Human civilisation has collapsed, with only a few pockets of survivors left to struggle on. The apes have retreated into the forests, nurturing their own fledgling society, but a chance encounter gone wrong, and rebellious factions amongst both apes and humans threatens to spiral into all-out war.
