Hello everybody! This is just a gentle reminder that there are no films this week although drama soc are going to be putting on some nice events so feel free to check those out. The Cinema won’t feel betrayed in any way… really… However next week as part of RISE Week (London United Against Racism) organized by our one and only Deputy President of Education and Welfare along with other College’s around London we will be showing two foreign language films. Volver and The Motorcycle Diaries. Oldies, but goodies. Both films are in Spanish but have English subtitles for those non-Spanish speakers. A little bit more about the films Volver From en.wikipedia.org Volver (Spanish: "to return" (specifically: to return to a place)), is a 2006 Academy Award-nominated Spanish film by director Pedro Almodóvar. Volver was one of the films competing for the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. It eventually won two awards: Best Actress (shared by the six main actresses) and Best Screenplay. The film's premiere was held on March 10, 2006, in Puertollano, Spain, where the filming had taken place. The two sisters lost their parents in a fire in La Mancha, their birth village, years ago. Their aunt, Paula, still lives in the village and continues to speak about her sister Irene, mother of the two sisters, as if she were still alive. When the old aunt dies the situation changes and the past returns(volver) in a twist of mystery and suspense. It tells the story of a journey by motorcycle across South America in 1952 by young Ernesto "Che" Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado. Guevara later became the famous Marxist revolutionary better known as Che Guevara, and the film depicts the gradual development of his political outlook, but his revolutionary exploits are not mentioned except in a caption at the end. The film is based on the books Diarios de motocicleta by Guevara, and Con el Che por America Latina by Alberto Granado. Guevara is played by Mexican actor Gael García Bernal, and Granado by the Argentine actor Rodrigo de la Serna. Hi everybody. Sorry for the later than usual email but due to my paranoia about spamming people. So I decided to leave it until I knew all the facts. So first the bad news. There will be no Cinema night on Tuesday due to graduation hiring out the UCH, or next week on Tuesday 30th or November 1st. However, to make up for it we will be showing (back due to popular demand) The Transformers on Thursday 25th together with the CGCU. The Transformers Thursday 18:30 Price: £3 or Free if you are a CGCU wrist band holder. Plus bottled beer will be available at the box office! A little more about the film *Transformers* is a 2007 live action film directed by Michael Bay and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, based on the Transformers franchise. The film stars Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, who has the coordinates to the location of the Allspark, an object at the center of the war between the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons. The film also stars Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Voight, John Turturro, and Hugo Weaving as the voice of Megatron. Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime in the 1980s cartoon, reprised the role for the film. Hi all, it's that time of the week again. The cinema email! Next week we'll be bringing you two great movies, Bourne Ultimatum and Rush Hour 3. Note that we might have had some confusion over the movies this week as SuperBad was not available for next week. Still we will be showing it in the coming weeks. ...yeah sorry about the subject.. me and my roommate laughed a lot at that but we realise we're not that funny... Welcome to the cinema list for those who haven't been on it yet, and to those who have.. well we've got you now so it doesn't matter what I say to you. (Just kidding, I love you all) The iCU Cinema located in the Union Concert Hall (2nd floor of the Union), and has an impressive 35" projection screen providing one of the best cinematic experiences in London. As usual, tickets on the night are £3 or £5 for both showings, but this year we're trialling a new 10 ticket bulk buy and bringing back the term pass. The ten ticket bulk purchase are 10 non transferable tickets for £15 - however you will have to use them by term end. The Term Pass is available for £30 which will let you watch any movie for this term for no additional fee. Both will be available (eventually) on the Union website, and from the box office before/after showings.
