Sorry Wendy & ACS (? American Chemical Soc. ?) - sometimes I forget WWW's scope- I really meant THE Professional organisation for UK chemists.
Yes, the American Chemical Society - the world's largest scientific society etc. etc.!
Your reply interests me - could you expand on ChemCenter. Is it a better/more accessible resource than RSC's information & library ?
Visit http://www.chemcenter.org and find out for yourself. It is a "virtual community" (such as RSC's Chemsoc) but communities differ. They all have their good points and their bad points. This is a fast changing field and I hesitate to refer you to learned publications in this field since they are out of date already.
Why ? Maybe RSC members can vote with their feet (or subscription)?
My impression at the recent ACS meeting in Anaheim was that members *are* voting with their feet as regards some services. I am not sure why you think that RSC has had bad publicity on this list. In Anaheim, the audience applauded *in the middle* of a presentation on electronic journal pricing by Robert Parker of RSC. I sense that RSC is pretty popular in the US. Perhaps the prophet is not appreciated on his home terrain?
Your Anaheim reference means nothing to me - can you explain?
Sorry - cheap gibe at ACS who are taking it out on me (one of their own learned editors) because I was honest about ChemCenter last year. I am honest now too - ChemCenter is much improved. It has been re-organised into eight areas and the home page loads much quicker. It has a great deal of useful content, some of it free, and you don't have to register! (There are advantages, though, to registering.)
