I am embarrassed to announce that there is already a SECOND release of Chemscape Chime available for the Macintosh. Due to a mistake in the first version (0.8bR1) (my fault) which some of you may have downloaded BEFORE TODAY April 26th, 1996, there is a possible annoyance. The problem is that 'part' of the first version of Chime for the mac thinks it is 'expiring' on May 1st. This may cause the about box to mysteriously appear in this version. After May 1st it may stop working altogether. The new version (0.8bR2), now available on or web site, has the correct expiration date of August 1st, 1996. (we plan to have new mac versions available long before then). The final version of Chime 1.0, available at the end of summer, will NOT have an expiration date. I know our web site can be very slow at times (we are currently just 'days' away from having a much faster site). In the mean time I will volunteer to email the new version of MacOS Chemscape Chime to anyone who request this. You will need a MIME compliant email program, such as Eudora, which can accept attachments. If you would like me to email you the MacOS version of Chime just send me ( tim@mdli.com ) a message with 'Send me mac chime' as the subject. (On the Chemweb mailing list you should just be able to 'reply' to this message.) You can identify the first (problematic) version by it's modified date, which is April 18, 1996. The modified date on the correct (rel 2) version is April 25, 1996. Sorry again for this inconvenience. We look forward to your thought and feedback on Chime, please direct these to chime-feedback@mdli.com ! -tim Tim Maffett tim@mdli.com Architect Internet Technologies MDL Information Systems, Inc. ----- chemweb: A list for Chemical Applications of the Internet.
