Dear Bernard et al.,
Perhaps the RSC would like to comment - they are THE Professional organisation for chemists
I recently attended a meeting in Liverpool with some chaps from the RSC, they were canvassing us for ideas and requests, in short, to get an idea of what we thought they should be doing and to find out what else we wanted from them. I was extremely impressed by this approach. They are trying. I would urge you to give them your support, (and your feedback/questions/worries directly), they are willing to listen.
Your reply interests me - could you expand on ChemCenter. Is it a better/more accessible resource than RSC's information & library ?
Chemcenter can be found on the url http://www.chemcenter.org there are a some useful free search facilities on chemcenter, e.g. under the library section, there is a link to an ACS puublications search form http://pubs.acs.org/journals/aoc/aoc_search.html but like most US services, if you want them, you have to pay... http://www.chemcenter.org/dbsearch.html most of these are beyond the means of a single researcher and are usually subscribed to on an institutional basis and come out of a library budget. E.g. Scifinder Scholar, http://www.cas.org/SCIFINDER/SCHOLAR/index.html Unfortunately, Liverpool's science librarian knows nothing about this product, so I have never used it, apparently we have no plans to subscribe. Obviously we can get CAS via STN... http://www.fiz-karlsruhe.de but it is not even clear if this is available to us in the UK. But Scifinder Scholar? Perhaps Wendy could clarify? The RSC equivalent of ChemCentre is chemsoc.org and can be found here http://www.chemsoc.org
Why? Maybe RSC members can vote with their feet (or subscription)? I'm very impressed with & use US resources, particularly PubMedline for searches ( http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/)
The EU also has some pretty impressive resources to such as Beilstein. If Bradford has BIDS, I think you will be entitled to use Beilstein via MIDAS http://www.midas.ac.uk/scientific/
Your Anaheim reference means nothing to me - can you explain?
A major ACS meeting recently took place in Anaheim. Regards, Michael. -- *------------------------------------------------------------* | Michael H.
