Chemwebbers-
I've read about and seen what some people are doing with Chimescripting, and would like to do some myself. Is there a site with information on scripting commands (or enough examples that they become obvious)? I've checked out MDL's site and it doesn't seem to be there.
Thanks-
There are a couple of places that might have what you are looking for: http://www.mdli.com/chemscape/chime/example/spttutor/tutorial.html The above URL is a entry point for a tutorial on Chime scripting and Rasmol scripting developed by Mitch Miller from MDL. It is a very nice tutorial, but it does require Netscape 3.0 because it takes advantage of a new feature that allows the scripts to be embedded within the HTML page and not have to reside as separate files on the server. A very nice HTML/hot linked version of the Rasmol 2.6 manual can be found at: http://www.umass.edu/microbio/rasmol/distrib/rasman.htm This page was developed by Eric Martz, et al, and is basically a complete version of the manual Rasmol manual, with all of the commands through Rasmol 2.6beta2 added, in hypertext form. Eric Martz is the moderator of the Rasmol mailing list, and also has an excellent web site with information of Rasmol scripting and tutorial writing, etc. : http://www.umass.edu/microbio/rasmol/ One other general reference is the "Cool Examples" page at mdl's web site, which list some of the neat pages people have been developing with Chime. (I am sure you have probably seen this, but some readers may not have.) http://www.mdli.com/chemscape/chime/sampidx.html Some general Chime news: As many of you may have read in other mailing lists, there have been a couple of exciting announcements in the past week or so: 1) MDL has announced that Chime will have a FREE license for ALL USERS, including personal home use, academic, AND corporate users. Read more about this at: http://www.mdli.com/news960819.html 2) Glaxo Wellcome and MDL have announced a collaboration on further development of both Rasmol and Chemscape Chime. Read more about this at: http://www.mdli.com/news960827.html Update on Chime 1.0's status: Although the final release of Chime is getting closer, we may be releasing one last beta before the final. The new version of Chime has some exciting new features, including extensions to the Rasmol scripting engine to include several much sought after commands by long time Rasmol scripters such as Eric Martz. Chime will also include support for LiveConnect from Netscape, which will allow Chime authors to include such things as a "interactive command line mode" for Chime within their web pages, and many other neat things such as GIF images with image maps to URLs to invoke Chime scripts. The SGI version of Chime is also shaping up quite nicely, and is currently in 'limited alpha' testing this week by SGI users around the world. We hope to release a beta of the SGI Chime by early next week, if not sooner. -tim Tim Maffett Principal Architect - Internet Technologies MDL Information Systems, Inc. ----- chemweb: A list for Chemical Applications of the Internet.
