For those who many not have seen this, connect to http://www.clarkson.edu/~rosen2/olcc.html for a major new course on OLCC-II Environmental and Industrial Chemistry being offered on a global basis. registration is apparently needed by December 5th. I also note the earlier VSMS course on Structure based Drug Design; http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/vsms Its clear that the first signs of what might become a significant "industry" on a global scale are evolving. Whilst registration for such courses is probably still tiny compared to registration at "real" universities, these two courses do clearly fill a niche that more conventional University taught courses in many institutes leave unfilled. I also note with interest that Microsoft are presumably watching these developments with interest, waiting one might assume to see which show signs of succeeding, before dare I suggest buying them out? Or perhaps (just to be provocative) for Microsoft, read Elsevier? Or, continuing this theme, how long before Microsoft buy out Elsevier? So, anyone out there in real "university and further educationland" worried yet about their jobs? Dr Henry Rzepa, Dept.
