A colleague who is not on this list has asked me the following: "We are looking for sources of information/articles which stress the fact that the volume of information available (and which we must process) in the pharmaceutical area is considerably greater compared to other industrial sectors in the "chemical" industry e.g. Agrochemicals, Dyestuffs, Plastics, Photographic, Organic Chemicals, Inorganic Chemicals, Paints etc.... The relative number of scientific and technical journals or articles(and their relative size) or patents in the different areas would, for example be a quantitative argument but there are probably also qualitative arguments too." My colleague can do a patent count himself, I guess, and he has some figures to show there are 5 times as many journals aimed at the pharmaceutical industry as at the other industries. We can probably find the number of journals in total and there was some stuff on the chminf-l list (when?) about the growth in the literature in general. Does anybody have any other ideas for us, please? All suggestions gratefully received.
