I was wondering if anyone could help me out with resources concerning the case involving Michigan Chemical in the 1974 - 1977 range, where fire retardant was substituted for nutrients in grain for dairy cows. For those who many not have seen this, connect to http://www.clarkson.edu/~rosen2/olcc.html for a major new course on OLCC-II Environmental and Industrial Chemistry being offered on a global basis. registration is apparently needed by December 5th. I also note the earlier VSMS course on Structure based Drug Design; http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/vsms Its clear that the first signs of what might become a significant "industry" on a global scale are evolving. Whilst registration for such courses is probably still tiny compared to registration at "real" universities, these two courses do clearly fill a niche that more conventional University taught courses in many institutes leave unfilled. I also note with interest that Microsoft are presumably watching these developments with interest, waiting one might assume to see which show signs of succeeding, before dare I suggest buying them out? Or perhaps (just to be provocative) for Microsoft, read Elsevier? Or, continuing this theme, how long before Microsoft buy out Elsevier? I would really like to find an inexpensive (or freeware) molecular drawing program that will allow me to draw small molecules and polypeptides. Hi, November's Molecule of the Month is Sscorpionine, provided by Henry Rzepa of Imperial College. The 50 most cited chemists during the period 1981-1997

According to ISI, the following list gives the 50 most cited chemists; http://www.ch.ic.ac.uk/citation.html Interesting that the top 10 includes many computational chemists, and that crystallographers feature highly. It is claimed that this list almost certainly includes the names of 6-10 Nobel laureates-to-be! I wonder what this list says about a) what citations mean anyway (and even more controversially, what the "impact factor" of cites per paper means) b) Does it say anything about what people consider the important areas of chemistry have been, or will be? c) Is it worth drawing any demographic conclusions from these names? d) I wonder when/if the ISI will consider hyperlinked citations on the Web to qualify for their count!! On-line MCQs using Chime

Hi, Some of you might be interested in a couple of examples of on-line Multiple Choice Questions I've written to demonstrate how our Tutorial MarkUp (TML) system can be used for delivering MCQs via the web with embedded Chime structures. The URL is: http://www.tlchm.bris.ac.uk/cgi-bin/tml_v4.2_anon/tml/questions/chimedemo/ chimedemo.tmlo (note it should all be one line with no breaks) It requires (a) a browser that can cope with the <OBJECT> tag and (b) one that works with the Chime plug-in. Netscape 4.03 works on both these counts, but I'm not sure about MSIE 4+ yet. Any comments?
